FE Developer here; How do I become a digital nomad.

    Posted: 07 Feb 2018 10:03 AM PST

I'm a FE developer, but not really because I'm not employed as one yet. How realistic is it to find a job which pays enough for me to travel and work? Also, is it realistic to be traveling and doing work? I've read about this digital nomad lifestyle and I am really curious. It's kinda dull to be sitting in my room, reading documentation and JS books. I need to travel.

So tldr: - How do I find a Frontend job which allows me to travel? - Is it realistic? Isn't it hard to travel and work as a FE developer? - Will I get paid enough to travel? I've heard that remote FE jobs don't really pay that much. Is this a myth?

Thank you for reading and possibly helping me break free from my dull life.

Any problem with hosting images on Google Drive and retrieving with OAuth2?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2018 04:02 PM PST

Would there be an issue with prebaking my Google Credentials to authenticate access to the GDrive API?

It's for my personal website and won't be receiving that many hits, but it feels a bit wrong.

(I need to hit the API to see the contents of a folder and generate image URLs to display a changing catalogue)

Any suggestions on if this okay, or for alternative solutions would be greatly appreciated!

How does one create tour pages for a product?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2018 03:49 PM PST

I am not sure if I am using the proper term to describe my problem. When a user signs up sometimes websites have pop-ups that describe how to use the product. What are those called and what framework can be one used to create them?

I am going to become a web developer. Is this a good course of action?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2018 03:34 PM PST

Hi, all. I am just learning to code after a loooooong hiatus. I taught myself PHP when I was younger and want to get back into it. After doing some research, I am thinking of getting proficient with frontend languages like HTML, CSS, and Javascript before getting back into PHP. I never learned much about any frontend stuff back in the day, I just lazily drew tables in Dreamweaver and coded all the PHP myself.

I know that if I am going to become an employable web developer I need to know everything from HTML/CSS/JS to PHP/MySQL. I am considering starting off with taking a course I see recommended a lot: The Web Developer Bootcamp, by Colt Steele.[sounds like he's a male porn star]. After I complete that course, I am going to brush up on my PHP, and will have the whole package.

Does this sound like a good plan? Becoming a web dev has always been a dream of mine. I don't want to start the process off on the wrong foot. All of Udemy's courses currently have a massive discount. They are only $14.99 right now, as opposed to $199.99.

Link to course I will be starting with: https://www.udemy.com/the-web-developer-bootcamp/

Any input will be appreciated and considered. Thanks!

    Question about new possible job.

    Posted: 07 Feb 2018 02:35 PM PST

Hey guys, first thank you for reading this. I just started my web dev journey about 2 years ago, and about to graduate, so I've learned a quite bit already. That being said, I went for a job interview and now they sent me a wireframe to code(which I'm very comfortable with) the question I have is that on the email that the company hire employer stated was that he wanted me to include "Either a zip file with the html or a link online."

I'm a bit confuse by that request... I obviously know how to zip files, but not sure if I know what he means by "zip file with the html"

He is asking me to code an html template wireframe that will be responsive with mobile, tablet, and desktop. I'm not too worried about that part. I just want to make sure that I send the files correctly, and that it's done right. Any help and adviced would be much appreciated.

    Thanks guys!

Any basic things that can be done to increase a local businesses visitors?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2018 02:02 PM PST

I have a job updating a small local business's wix site. After I update the design of it, are there any little things that can be done to maybe increase visitors / sales for them? They don't want to spend money on any online marketing, but I'd like to do something else on top of updating their old design.

    Thanks for any suggestions!!

Google Analytics not detecting page address / URL correctly

    Posted: 07 Feb 2018 01:36 PM PST

I'm using JavaScript to capture the data entered into a single input field so that it's added to the URL (/?label=formValue). I also have a second onClick event set so that a Google Analytics pageview is sent with the intent that the form data is passed along as the URL, but it's only sending everything before the questionmark. Is there a way for Google Analytics to properly re-capture the page address?

Alternatively, is there a way to inject the field data into a Google Analytics event trigger?

What is a good IDE to work in web development?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2018 07:27 AM PST

I am starting to hate the code editor in my C-PANEL. It annoys me because it can be hard to read my own code from time to time. I have to zoom in and the highlighting feature is just redundant. Like, is there a way I can just move my code to an IDE where I check for errors easier and publish my changes to the domain directly? Is there a PHPstorm equivalent of a web IDE?

EDIT: I am just working with HTML, CSS, and JS.

    Learning Angular

    Posted: 07 Feb 2018 01:25 PM PST

Hi guys. I've put many hours learning js and now want to go further learning Angular aswell. I came across this site http://www.thestlbrowns.com and wanted to ask you if it's a good idea to use the desktop version as some kind of a reference to make a similar site to personal portfolio? Maybe it's a tough one but I like to challenge myself. Just want some input from more experienced devs. Thanks in advance!

Asking: How to convert a React Redux website to a Native app (x-post from /r/reactnative)

    Posted: 07 Feb 2018 01:05 PM PST

    Hi!

    I'm looking for advice on:

-Any tutorials to converting a React website into React native?

-Any React Native teaching materials that are directed at web developers?

-I would love any advice on the path to take here.

More Background: I recently finished an initial version of an Acroyoga website which can be found here: https://findpose.herokuapp.com My next goal is to turn it into an IOS app and then Andriod.

So far what I have been finding on Reddit is:

1.A link to react native's "quick setup" which involves "create react app" command, and then lots of instructions on React which I already know (including inline styling).

2.Recommendations for Stephen Grider's course on Udemy, which I purchased, only to find out it does not utilize "Create React Native App", and focuses a lot on React and Redux stuff, which I've already worked with to make my website.

Would love to get your educated opinions.

Got hired somewhere that uses Windows servers?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2018 12:42 PM PST

    Hey,

I know for many this will sound crazy..but I have successfully avoided Windows servers this far and would continue to had I not found a pleasant job which uses Windows Servers.

I am worried; Will docker run happily? Will setting up automated deploys be a pain in the ass? Am I going to have to debug 90% of the installs I attempt? What if I develop on Mac? Will those "PLEASE UPDATE ME DADDY" force restarts plague our production machines?

Do I have anything to worry about? Am I just making a fuss for no reason?
