Tech Lead says Don't Comment or document anything Posted: 17 Feb 2022 04:21 AM PST Hi, Alright, So currently I am working in a company on a product that has a codebase of almost 500,000 LOC and there is not a single comment in the code or any documentation about how the code works. Even though the code is readable and I have no issues working and solving tasks I thought good comments and documentation on classes and functions is good practice. When I raised this issue with tech lead, I was told "if anyone needs to comment, then it means that code is not readable enough and should rewrite the code". What do you guys think about this? This is the first time I am working on such a large product. [link] [comments] |
What does your average workday entail? Posted: 17 Feb 2022 10:29 AM PST This question is targeted at software engineers and web developers, but also those who may use programming in a non-dev role. My goal is to transition from a career of technical support to software development. I'm currently self-taught and plan on pursuing a bachelor's degree in computer science, but I'm also trying to determine which field would suit me best at first (especially if I can enter the field before earning the degree). What's the web framework for programmers who hate web development? Posted: 17 Feb 2022 06:30 AM PST What's the web framework for programmers who hate web development? I.e. it has to be so quick and easy to use that one doesn't have to delve into web development. But it still allows one to develop web applications. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Feb 2022 10:12 AM PST Say I have the following list: I can create the following list by using `list(itertools.combinations(names, 2)` The problem is I'd like this list to have for each pair, a member of the previous pair. E.g. after the 3rd pair [link] [comments] |
Boolean based upon user input which goes back to original question. Posted: 17 Feb 2022 10:06 AM PST I'm trying to write a program to be able to write my own receipts easier I start off by asking a question i = input(enter name of x) Then i want to make a bool input saying Is there more to add to the list If yes, it asks the question again "enter name of x" and that input is added into the list of previous inputs until the user says "no" to the bool Then it goes 1 by 1 down the list of entered things and asks for the price of each input [link] [comments] |
I was recently asked this question in an interview Posted: 17 Feb 2022 10:06 AM PST I was asked this question in an interview and I am not sure what I am getting wrong. So you are given an array of ints: {1,2,3,4,5} You are supposed to print an element from the front of the array and from the end of the array repeatedly until you have printed all the elements: 1, 5, 2, 4, 3 I used a while loop with a start and end pointer which increments and decrements after each iteration. I initially messed up the while loop condition and was printing 3 two times instead of one. Finally I figured out my mistake and added an if statement to break out of the while loop if start>end. But the interviewer did not seem pleased and asked if I thought the loop was efficient. Problem is, I could not think of a way to implement it without using an if/break statement. Or I would have to print out the middle element separately outside the loop. Can anyone help me understand where I'm going wrong? My code: int [] arr = {1,2,3,4,5} int start = 0; int end = arr.length-1; while(start<=end){ System.out.println(arr[start]); start++; if(start>end){ break; } System.out.println(arr[end]); end--; } [link] [comments] |
Where they came from the most related concepts on popular JavaScript frameworks? Posted: 17 Feb 2022 09:25 AM PST Hello people! I guess all the most important concepts came from specific place and I would like know from where. For instance concepts like lifecycle ( onMount, onDestroy ) contexts, states, reactivity, components, etc Or simply one of them created these concepts and all the rest of frameworks "emulated" this philosophy? Greetings! 😁 [link] [comments] |
rf24l01 receiver does not receive Pi Pico Posted: 17 Feb 2022 08:53 AM PST Hello, I followed the instruction of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP8rSN-1eT0&list=LL&index=1&ab_channel=TinkerTechTrove with 2 raspberries pico and 2 nrf24l01, I can see it does send data the led is blink, but the receiver does not work. Has anyone seen this problem again? https://github.com/tinkertechtrove/pico-pi-playing thank you in advance [link] [comments] |
Calculating arrangement of elements for minimum distance? Posted: 17 Feb 2022 08:02 AM PST I am working on an art project that I'm prototyping in InDesign. I have 24 elements arranged around the perimeter of a canvas ("perimeter elements"). I plan to draw several hundred flowchart-type lines between these elements and elements located in the middle of the canvas ("center elements"). The position of the center elements is fixed, and the perimeter elements should be arranged to minimize the distance between them and the center elements to which they are linked. I am trying to figure out an efficient way to optimize the arrangement of perimeter elements. I can abstract this down to:
The brute force solution would be to test each perimeter element in each position and select the configuration overall minimum distance, but that's O(n!) and I sense there is some mathematical or algorithmic tool I could use to accomplish this task more simply. That's where you come in. Thank you!! [link] [comments] |

Modifying Colors Of Long SVG Dynamically Posted: 17 Feb 2022 06:26 AM PST I got a SVG from https://undraw.co/ to put on my website. I'm trying to add a color theme switcher, and one of the things that need to change color is the color on these SVG's (for example orange to green). I looked for some solutions, but modifying such a long SVG is quite tedious. Looking to modify it via JavaScript if possible. I can either use it in an For reference, this is the SVG: [link] [comments] |
List of Five Letter Word Not Including Plurals Posted: 16 Feb 2022 09:07 PM PST Hello, I'm unsure if this is the correct place to ask, but for a coding project I'm currently working on I need a list of all five letter words not including the plurals of words with fewer letters. For example, I don't want the word 'Boxes' or 'Backs' to appear on the list, as they are plurals of words with fewer than five letters. If anyone has this I would appreciate it a lot. Do most programmers learn their cloud skills on the job? Posted: 17 Feb 2022 05:21 AM PST I'm wondering where most programmers/SWE's learn cloud skills?
Most of my programming knowledge has come from work-related learning. I'd generally prefer to learn on the job (and get paid) vs. spending my free time learning about programming. I don't know much about Linux, networking, servers or cloud stuff at the moment.......and I don't need to know that stuff for my current job (I don't work with any cloud stuff in my current job). I see lots of programmer job postings that want people with cloud skills.......so I'm kinda wondering how I could get some cloud skills? Like if most programmers learn cloud skills on the job......then can I get a pass on not having cloud skills if I haven't worked in jobs that would involve learning cloud skills? [link] [comments] |

Confused about career after college Posted: 17 Feb 2022 04:30 AM PST I don't want tech job coding and all is not for me I am more into design ui ux etc but job applications are saying you literally needs to know Front end for uiux job,so i thought buisness analysis thing would be something i might be able to do, I already posted about business analytics but don't know does it requires calculus or not I don't know how to solve math yes ik it sounds weird but its a fact i don't know how to solve calculus and if i go in BA and then if syllabus of that course contains calculus and stat then what I am gonna do??It will be complete waste of time and money. So i am confused and about to cry because i literally Don't know what i am gonna do after college. Please help me. [link] [comments] |

How do you track your Open Source contributions? Posted: 16 Feb 2022 11:21 AM PST Hello! This morning I was wondering this question, because recently I started into contributions world and idk how should handle it Do you have your favorites repos? Do you always make contributions on the same repo? For sample if you are surfing across GitHub and you look a error / potential improve or whatever, instantly do you make the contribution? Or do you take note and come back in the next few days? On base the currently issues do you make contributions? Greetings from Italy! [link] [comments] |

[HELP] Append Values to Dictionary Posted: 16 Feb 2022 11:16 AM PST I'm working confused as to why I can't append multiple values to a dictionary. Here is what I have going on... I have a file that looks something like: >sp|P62258|1433E_HUMAN 14-3-3 protein epsilon OS=Homo sapiens GN=YWHAE PE=1 SV=1 I want to search the lines that don't start with the '>' and store those in a string, then I want to perform a regular expression search to output something that looks like the following: Currently, my code looks like this:
I then get an error "AttributeError: 'str' object has no attribute 'append'" If I change my It prints out this but overwrites every key with a new value e.g. I can't append multiple values to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 16 Feb 2022 10:56 PM PST I want to create a 3D platform and have identified all the components required to do so in a structure chart, is it typical to start with dependant functions like finding the location of a 3D point on the screen. or depending functions like a function that sorts and prints all triangles to the screen? I'm sort of lost cause there's like 30 different things I need to do all at various depths in the program and I don't know where I'm meant to start. I usually start from the top down but just want to see if that's what everyone does. [link] [comments] |
