Posted: 12 Sep 2021 02:14 PM PDT Filebase and Akash currently have a hackathon under way to see who can build the best web app that makes use of the two. There is $10,000 in prizes up for grabs so I though it might be something people here would be interested in. It's a good chance to get your foot in the door and begin learning about decentralized web development as it promises to be one of the fastest growing technologies thus far. I have copied and pasted all the relevant information from the Filebase hackathon blog post here for convenience. I hope this post doesn't break any rules, I just thought it would be a good opportunity for some people here. If it is in violation of any rules I apologize and understand if this gets removed. --------
1st place prize: $10,000 + up to $250 in free object storage credits on Filebase 2nd place prize: Up to $150 in free object storage credits on Filebase 3rd place prize: Up to $100 in free object storage credits on Filebase Hackathon begins: September 1, 2021 Deadline: October 22, 2021 23:59 PST Registration Process:

Posted: 12 Sep 2021 11:23 AM PDT So for context, I'm a digital strategist with some experience with web design. The developer I met with suggested that for a Wordpress website, the Google tag manager code should go directly in the themes source code, rather then using a plugin. What are your thoughts? How are you expected to interview with a full-time job? Is the interview process too long? Posted: 11 Sep 2021 07:26 PM PDT So I'm going through the interview process and my last 2 interview processes have went like this: - 30 minute interview with HR - Code test that took 3 hours - 2 interviews back-to-back totalling 1.5 hours, both conversational and technical - 4 interviews, 30 minutes each with a 30 minute break after 2 of them. 2 of them technical, 2 of them conversational and behavioral. 2 hours total (not including the break) That is 7 hours worth of interviewing I have done, most of this within the span of 1.5 weeks. I have had another interview process just like this but it totaled around 5.5 hours. Now, I am unemployed so besides the fact that these 2 hour interviews are draining, it's not an issue for my schedule. But if I was an employed dev looking for a new job how the hell would they expect me to fit this interview process into my day-to-day working a fulltime job? How do you expect to take multiple breaks throughout your workweek in order to do some technical and behavioral interviews? With that said is the interview process broken? Do we really need to be doing back-to-back interviews that are over an hour-long in order to weed out candidates? I can only speak for myself but when I have to do these 1.5 to 2-hour interviews I begin to have diminishing returns to my answers. After about an hour of behavioral or technical questions (and some conversational) my answers begin to be drawn out and not as precise or to-the-point as the interview goes on. It's incredibly draining. Does anyone else feel this way? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Sep 2021 01:43 AM PDT I'm building a website similar to Udemy, I need my users to be able to upload their videos. But I don't want to deal with the video hosting side of things, so I'm wondering if there are any good (and affordable) video hosting platforms. Edit: I mean not just storage like with S3, but all the magic video providers do to sever different video sizes on different devices and so on. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Sep 2021 01:56 PM PDT And is it best practice to import the reset like through a file/library format? Or to just copy/paste the css code into your project? [link] [comments]
Using Github repo as a free hosting option for lots of images Posted: 12 Sep 2021 01:37 AM PDT Is it bad practice if I upload > 1000 images on Github and then refer to them using <img src"..."> using the link Github has for the images? This way I won't have to use something like S3. The images will probably never change and I'm looking for simple and free hosting option. The website is static. I'm thinking of putting all the images in separate repository and then accessing them from my website. I could also put them in the repository the website uses. So I have hacky image storage. Could something go wrong? Let me know if something isn't clear. I really want to know about this approach. [link] [comments]

Hiring a developer, which technologies should we seek? Posted: 12 Sep 2021 12:42 PM PDT I am hoping this is the right place to post this, long story short we are an upcoming Affiliate Network (Primarily Cost Per Action offers). Our team is currently seeking the right candidate for a developer, but we are not sure which technology stack we should be using for our platform. We are looking for frameworks that offer the quickest development time as getting the platform up immediately is a big priority, however we need to ensure our user data is as secure as it can be, and we also need to know that the technologies chosen will be best for handling the traffic our site will be thrown. For reference, we will have the affiliate portal which can be expected to have between 300-2000 users online at peak times, plus we will have traffic coming from all of these affiliates, let's say an average of 5 clicks per second per affiliate, meaning there could be up to 10,000 people routing through our platform at any given second, and that is being a lower estimate. Any suggestions would be an immense help, thank you all very much! So far we have looked into Laravel, it seems like a good option, but PHPs handling of requests could run us into a wall possibly, correct? Some examples of competitors with large amounts of traffic are OGAds, AdscendMedia, AdworkMedia, etc. [link] [comments]
