How to take back website from web developer? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 11:37 AM PDT So I hired someone to create a website for me and will no longer require their services since I'm temporarily shutting my business down, and am wondering how I can take control of the website? I asked for credentials and files related to the website and was told I need hosting to have it uploaded as they cannot just simply send things over. Would I need to get hosting (ex. GoDaddy) and then give them the credentials to transfer everything over? I'm also not sure how to take over the domain either? I'm guessing this isn't as straightforward as I thought it would be. Edit: They used WordPress if that makes a difference [link] [comments]

How to make api calls after Auth0 auth done on my app? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 12:33 PM PDT I am getting started on a side project. Planning to use Auth0 for auth. But I am not sure how to use that auth for making calls to my api which stores/calls data from DynamoDB. Like how will my api know if the user is authorised to make the call since user data is stored in Auth0? Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments]

Anyone else working at a company that never promotes? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 09:47 AM PDT I've been at my current job since 2018. I've noticed throughout the years, ALL the Software Engineers that are here have not been promoted. We have annual performance reviews which dictate a bonus of ~8%. I left the military to pursue a career in coding to make more money and make beautiful things. Almost 6 years in, I'm not even close to what I was making as a Captain in the Army. Feeling defeated and bad for my fellow colleagues. "just quit and find a new job" isn't as easy as typing it out. Anyone else in the same boat? [link] [comments]
Creating Web Applications with Payment Support Posted: 31 Aug 2021 01:29 PM PDT Hello lovely people, I was just wondering if anyone could guide me towards resources to implement (or enlighten me as to whether or not it is possible to build) a payment system for a web application (and I guess extensible to mobile applications in the future). You know, the sort of 'microtransactions' type of things, not buying/selling items. If it's implementable, it would be awesome to learn how all that encryption/security stuff works. If not, I'm guessing it's just too complex and would probably be some sort of established API/service I would need to call. Thanks in advance for any insight y'all can provide [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Aug 2021 12:49 PM PDT I've been trying to monetize my website (https://sky-music.herokuapp.com) for ages, I get 150k page views a month and never gained a single cent from it, I've tried Google AdSense but they said I don't have enough "content", got rejected by media.net because (I think) I'm using heroku and sub domain. Got rejected by nitropay because I'm using a subdomain. Anyone has an ad provider that I could use? Only requirement is that it must not be too intrusive and I can chose where to place it. Is there good PHP finance/accounting Framework fro small size company Posted: 31 Aug 2021 12:03 PM PDT Hi I worked in small company office for ~3 months and they had Desktop accounting system that runs on local PC (two of them) and the server on Windows Dedi server that stores data in the DB . The whole system is divided to First invoice generator, that runs automatically with it own UID system (each invoice had unique number), these invoices are sync to the server to store it data, (I'll rewrite this system my self) The Accounting system includes daily work records for each invoice, Sub-offices due debt invoice for each account and that is my weak spot, since I never develop something similar before .. BTW I work in these system past three months so i know what they stand for, but I can't code if whole from scratch, I need PHP Accounting I can start with. [link] [comments]
Beginner training resources for self-taught web development Posted: 31 Aug 2021 03:47 PM PDT Hi everyone, i'm a self-taught IT guy, more of a Sys-admin. I know very little programming, like just took some entry-level Codeacademy classes in HTML, CSS and Javascript, didn't go very far because I wasn't very interested. I work freelance, doing mostly IT networking, wireless, server, security deployments and support for some customers. Lately I've been getting a lot of requests for websites, but I never take work that I can't deliver so usually decline. But this time i'm thinking I should look into being at least Wordpress-proficient so I don't just let go of so many opportunities. What training resources would you recommend ? knowing that short-term goal is to be able to deliver basic Wordpress websites, then next step is to be able to deliver a full e-commerce website as i get a lot of requests for those, and then build skills around that so i can get better at doing it . thanks in advance for your recommendations ! Has anyone written a proposal for their SaaS product? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 05:13 AM PDT I created a project for one-on-one tutoring. It's essentially like VipKid (if anyone has heard of them). Im pretty proud of it and amazed i was able to do it after just 8 months of learning. Today I messaged a school my friend works at about it as their online platform uses zoom and has some other features missing. They asked me to write a proposal for it. Tbh I've never written one and not really sure where to start. I know I their product and I know how mine can help but not sure about formatting and whether I should include screenshots of the website or not. Has anyone done this before? [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Aug 2021 12:04 PM PDT Hi, I found a data analytics bootcamp that offers a scholarship where the tuition is only $4k instead of $12k so thats $8k off. I am a fine arts graduate and I dont have any data science or data analytics background. I heard that you need to be good at mathematics, statistics or economics. At least be familiar with the concepts. Is this true? I really dont want to spend $4k for something I find that would be difficult for me to understand. I heard that bootcamps expect you to know before hand some concepts on the field youre trying to get into. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Aug 2021 11:56 AM PDT For other people who will be using it with me, so instead of them having to log on to namespace and go to email accounts, is there any way to use hotmail/outlook/gmail with domain emails? [link] [comments]
OpenAPI CDK (docs as code). What do you think? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 11:43 AM PDT So this idea has been on my mind for a while... I absolutely hate writing Open API documents in yaml by hand. GUI tools like StopLight Studio are a bit better, but still don't really cut it for me. I don't like generating it from code either because it tends to clutter everything and devs usually get too confident and don't bother to make sure that the output is good enough. So, ever since I saw the aws-cdk I can't stop thinking that this approach would be a perfect solution for generating Open API docs in a much more dev-friendly way. Here's a list of features that either would work out of the box or with just a little bit of effort: - Language bindings for popular languages through jsii (https://github.com/aws/jsii) (same tech behind aws-cdk). - Typechecking and autocomplete. - I18n. - Support for js modules and package managers (npm, nuget, etc) - Easy CICD integration. - Git-friendly. - Live-reload preview though webpack-dev-server or similar. I've been working on a very rough and unfinished POC. This is how it could look like: Do you guys think this makes sense? do you see it getting any interest from the community? [link] [comments]

New to my job; not sure if something is my responsibility or not Posted: 30 Aug 2021 05:05 PM PDT Context: I recently started working for a small company looking to get a new website. I built a React site as well as a NodeJS backend for admin stuff. Boss is real happy with it. However, the site needs to be deployed to a CPanel backend. I tried doing this myself, but could not, so I've forwarded the problem to the IT/web hosting department as it's a hosting issue. Now this is where my problem is: The IT team is insisting it's a "web design issue" and they don't do web design. The boss is siding with them, and I'm left with a task I cannot complete. Should this be my responsibility? I feel like it shouldn't, as it's entirely a server thing and I was only contracted to make the website. Am I wrong? Thanks, Kurtis [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Aug 2021 10:08 AM PDT We are a software company and we are looking to improve our documentation. I'm looking for a JavaScript library that can help us manage our documentation within our website. Currently we use MK Docs, but we are looking to fully integrate the documentation into our main website. I am wondering if anybody has any suggestions for some technology that we can use to achieve this. If our documentation needs updating in the future, I would much rather it be done from one central location (a JS file for example), instead of having to find the individual HTML page for that article. I can answer any more questions anybody has, and I'm keen to hear some suggestions. Thanks /r/webdev! [link] [comments] |
