I may have bitten off more than I can handle Posted: 17 May 2021 01:35 PM PDT One of my professors in college has recommended me to a local law firm to handle their website. They want a complete rebuild to my understanding. I didn't think anything would come of it, but they just called me and I now have an appointment to meet with the firm and discuss. I'm unsure what to ask or how to handle this next step. I'm sure my "fee" is going to come up and I have NO IDEA what to say. I'm fairly new, but a decent, web designer. I can do full stack, but I'm better at the back end than front end. I have one website in production, and a couple of personal projects that I've been working on that are perpetually in progress, and one more website almost production ready for a friend. Please, any advice is greatly welcomed and even more greatly needed. Thanks guys [link] [comments]
Anyone else here have career-debilitating anxiety? Posted: 17 May 2021 02:34 PM PDT I have lived with anxiety all my life and it has had a big impact on my career. Years ago I read that webdev is one of the best careers for those with social anxiety, and since I was already in love with programming, I decided to go for it. I have been employed now for almost half a year and although I love my job, it has caused me a lot of anxiety, especially when I have to deal with new clients who want to "test" me. It also gives me a real bad case of imposter-syndrome / lack of confidence in everything I do. For anyone here who also deals with anxiety, how do you manage to be successful when you feel this way? How do you overcome it? [link] [comments]

How can I improve my website to increase sales? Posted: 17 May 2021 01:14 AM PDT Hello everybody! I want to say that I'm not a website developer or don't even work in this industry. But I see that many experts have gathered in this subreddit, and I hope you can give a piece of advice. I'm an entrepreneur, and I have my own business. I would like to ask you if there is any way to make my company more popular and attractive to potential customers? I know that companies that specialize in digital marketing can help me with that. I even found this company — http://underwp.com/digital-marketing-services/ as one of the potential candidates for my project. Still, I don't want to look completely dull when I talk to them about business and my project. Besides, I want to find out more about increasing the organic traffic (if I name things correctly) and can it boost my sales? I have a website for my business, but it's not that popular. Besides, we don't have an option to shop online, as many others do. Maybe that is the reason why our shoppers do not visit it. I understand them, because our website is useless, and it doesn't provide any helpful information. But what's the point of keeping it if it doesn't bring any income? I think I can turn it into something more productive for my company. The analyses I've done show that most of my competitors focused on online sales, making more sales than I do. So, I've decided to turn my website into an online store? Besides, I heard that some tools and techniques can help you gain more visitors. I wish someone could explain to me in more detail how all this stuff works. It would help me a lot with my business. Thank you for your time, and thank you for reading it! I hope you can give me some tips or valuable info for dummies like me about websites and digital marketing. I know that there is some space for improvement, and I want to do things the right way. Do you take on jobs that you don’t 100% know how to execute? Posted: 17 May 2021 10:59 AM PDT For example, a client asks you to make an API with GraphQL and your experience is mostly with using already built REST APIs. If you do, what's the farthest you've stepped outside of your comfort zone? How'd it go and how'd you manage the stress? [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 May 2021 04:19 AM PDT Anyone here used the Apple API before? Can I have access to it without paying for an Apple dev license? Or so I just need to pay when I'm deploying my application? Help. Thanks. [link] [comments]

Do you know any libraries for DnD workflow-ui with nodes? Posted: 17 May 2021 03:27 PM PDT I'm trying to build the UI for a chatbot builder, and I was wondering if you knew any React libraries that allow drag and drop with nodes and connections? It would reduce my workload by a lot, but I'm really struggling to find one. My final product would look similar to this: [link] [comments]
What's a 'proper' deployment workflow these days? Posted: 17 May 2021 04:09 AM PDT I develop a Laravel app, alone, and my workflow is:
So I know this is not ideal and can be improved, and I am thinking of implementing Bitbucket pipelines, or deployer or similar. But I am a bit confused about a few things
Any help welcome! [link] [comments]
Scrollbar appears on all browsers of 2011 laptop but not on 2020 laptop?? Posted: 17 May 2021 11:39 AM PDT Is there any reason why scrolls bars should appear on an embedded widget (from Soundcloud, YouTube) on ALL browsers on an older laptop (Macbook Air 2011) and not on a newer one (MacbookPro2020)? I don't want them actually. FF, Chrome and Safari, browsers are up to date. [link] [comments]
Which project should take priority for employment chances? Posted: 17 May 2021 11:37 AM PDT I'm debating between starting one of these two projects after completing my current one: (1) React.JS with Typescript Web App (with maybe blog/ecommerce functionality) (2) LAMP Stack Project (any project using Linux, Apache, PHP, MySQL) Which of these two do you think provides the best opportunities in web/software dev if I prioritize it? Server-less, separate backend server, or front end and backend on same shared host? Posted: 17 May 2021 03:17 PM PDT I'm building a site and need to handle sending emails and also accepting payments (donations). I originally intended to deploy on docker with docker-compose handling both the images (React and Node), though the client is using a shared hosting plan and Docker is a no go. There is no DB. I was planning on using Stripe for payment processing and using Nodemailer for handling the emails (confirmation emails for forms and payments as well as sending form data to various internal addresses. (also I imagine Stripe can handle the payment confirmation emails etc but I've yet to work with it)). What is the best (simplest, cost effective, and dependable) way to handle the backend services? From what I gather my options are: - Run the backend on something like Heroku. - Run the backend either via proxy-pass or docker on my own Droplet that already exists (don't want to do this but will if it makes my life easier). - Run the backend via proxy on the same host as the front end. - Server-less (if possible with Stripe and if a solution exists for the emails) I'm not very familiar with server-less functions outside of some basic Firebase stuff. Also it is not a high traffic site. What is the best way to proceed? I feel like having both on the shared server and either setting up a subdomain for the backend or with NGINX proxy settings would be simplest (at least as far as not having two separate deployments), but would this cause performance/security issues? Is it possible to host the backend for free on something like Heroku? Is server-less the future and best solution and I should just figure that out? Any advice is much appreciated, cheers y'all. Component to check an image size Posted: 17 May 2021 03:02 PM PDT Ok I hope I can word this correctly. I am a graphic designer that found their way into the web design world. I am building a quick online guide for clients to access to help guide them through the process of adding a new biography to the company website. I work for a national company so the typical users experience with computers can vary from a little knowledge to almost nothing. Because of this, we get headshots from people that can be extremely tiny or just a poorly set up image to begin with. To help cut down on some of the images sent to us that are too small we want to add a component to the page that a user could drag an image into and it would display the image size in pixels. Having something that also displays "The image is too small, please try another" or "the image is ok to use" would also be a great addition. I am still new to a lot of coding past HTML so finding the words to even search for what I am looking for is difficult and if I need to elaborate on anything then just let me know. Thank you ahead of time! [link] [comments]
A better way to detect 301 redirect from specific domain? Posted: 17 May 2021 02:54 PM PDT I have a domain redirecting via 301 to a specific landing page on the a new domain / website. The page is currently acting as an introduction for visitors coming from the old domain. I'd like to change this 301 redirect to point to the new website's homepage and just have a modal window display the text I currently have on the landing page for visitors coming from the redirected domain only. I was planning to use JavaScript to snag the referrer URL and pop the modal window only when the referrer is the old domain, however, I discovered that 301 redirects strip the referrer information. As a solution, I've set a 301 redirect up to add a Query string to the URL on transfer. On the new website I have JS written which searches the URL for the query string and, if found, will trigger the display of the modal window. If this string is not detected, the modal window stays hidden. Does anyone have a recommendation for a better way to do this? [link] [comments]
Tips to take my freelance business to the next level? Posted: 17 May 2021 02:49 PM PDT Hey all! We are a team of 2 final year students who have been doing a number of websites on the side. We want to take our business more seriously now and help take it to the next level. We seem to focus a lot on short term income by getting clients but we don't really have a long term predictable source of income. We're trying to rectify this by possibly coming up with a custom product that we charge monthly for (rather than a project with a one time fee and hosting that we gain 80€ profit yearly) Any tips or suggestions on how to really excel from a side hustle into a more predictable stream of income? Thanks [link] [comments]

Changed A Record but site still not changing host? Posted: 17 May 2021 11:01 AM PDT I want my website to point to a new host. I went into the domain provider DNS and changed the A record to use the new IP address. It's been days and nothing's changed. Any ideas what I could be missing? The new website works only when I enter the URL https://palmaging.com/, but simply "palmaging.com" does not do the trick and only shows the old one. [link] [comments]
How do you plan out your site? Posted: 17 May 2021 02:15 PM PDT The other day I posted about learning HTML & CSS and I was struggling with some of the concepts. I have decided one of the best ways to practice what I have learned so far is to make a website or a test site of GitHub. My question is: How do you plan out your site? Do you draw what you are envisioning and then try to replicate with the code and images? Or do you make your website subsections and then build out from there? I don't really want to use a template other than something that helps me put <divs> where I want them to be. [link] [comments] |
