Seen anything else like this? What would you call it?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 01:59 PM PDT

    Check out the following site:

    https://namedate.org/

It has a style of scrolling where you can drag the page in every direction. I'm looking to make something similar but perhaps a bit more user friendly, where maybe you don't have to hold down but you can just hover over in any direction. What would you call this? Do you know any other sites that are similar to it? And how would you go about making something along these lines?

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks ya'll!

Full-stack devs, what takes up most of your time when you are building a website?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 12:25 PM PDT

    Hi all,

The title is self-explanatory. I'm quite new to web development and I'm personally finding that I'm spending a ton of time on taming CSS and it's kinda driving me crazy. Just wanted to know if it's just a beginners' thing and if there are other significant time drainers in this process.

Let me know what you think!

    Will WebAssembly replace JavaScript ?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 12:45 PM PDT

I saw an article on Medium called: "WebAssembly will replace JavaScript in less than 10 years". I'm really curious about it. If it's going to happen, should I learn C++ instead of JavaScript ? Thanks in advance!

    Front end Advice

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 02:19 PM PDT

I have been trying my hand at front end web development for awhile now (give or take two years) and it absolutely drives me mad. I can't seem to understand layout, places images, responsiveness, etc.

All of the issues stem in html, and css.

I'm feeling ready to throw in the towel on development. Any advice on where to pivot to and stay in development? Perhaps front end just is not for me.

I've been using Vue.js for some time now, which allows me to separate and scope my CSS into separate components. How would CSS be handled if I wasn't using Vue?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 08:30 AM PDT

I remember how when I first started learning web dev and making websites, I would write all my CSS in a single CSS file. That meant that I'd have this huge CSS file with thousand lines of CSS rules which was kinda hard to navigate. Recently I was wondering how would I handle my CSS if I were to stop using Vue.js. What would be the optimal and conventional way?

Anyone familiar with Flavio Copes’ JavaScript Bootcamp?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 01:26 PM PDT

I just came across https://thejsbootcamp.com/ on Google while looking for courses to learn JS. There doesn't seem to be much info on it but he seems to have a popular blog and positive comments on his other material.

It seems to be more of a bootcamp/course hybrid than a full on intensive bootcamp. The pricing is pretty attractive and is probably a reflection of that.

Is anyone familiar with it or have thoughts about the curriculum?

Is there a way to embed a video to make sure it can only be viewed by authorized people and not be ripped/shared?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 01:24 PM PDT

So far I'm working a small project with a couple friends and we are stuck on how to embed a video while also making sure that only certain individuals can access it while also making sure they can't rip or share the content.

We at first thought we could use a unlisted YouTube video but, it still gave the option to be shared and could be ripped rather easily.

    Any help is appreciated.

Minimum age requirements to get into the industry?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 03:34 PM PDT

Hey reddit, I am 17 and recently a thought popped up into my mind. I was learning full stack on the odin project and I thought about the age perspective of the industry. Do any companies are willing or would hire a young web developer? I use rails for backend and am currently doing front end projects. My front end skills are pretty darn good. I have yet to learn react. But anyhow, besides that would someone hire a young fully fledged web dev

How likely is it for a hiring manager/interviewer to question my "linux knowledge" if I use WSL2 instead of linux?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 11:39 AM PDT

Yes, I play video games. I can't dual boot as my hard drive is too small. Is it possible to give a negative impression for using React and node.js/Django through WSL2?

Edit: If this is a question that's more fitting for another subreddit tell me to remove it.

Hi all, Could someone point me in the right direction for PayPal integration preferably example code so I can learn better. Php preferred.

I have looked at the PayPal dev documentation however I'm struggling to implement subscriptions. I have set up my app and credentials and have implemented a basic sale ok but looking to see how I can code to have a buy button for subscription based. Once payment complete to then enter into my database.

Any good tutorials out there or source code examples?

    Lambda & S3

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 02:16 PM PDT

Hi guys! I want to gain experience working with Lambda & S3. The idea is to have, for example, an Instagram scraper that is written in python. I was thinking that scraper would run as Lambda function that will store images in S3 and than trigger a webhook on my site. I am looking for pointers, as is this the right flow of things, and possibly for some article or video. I am looking in the meantime. Thank You all!

CSS Rotate - Safari takes shortest route over 180° ???

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 04:22 AM PDT

I'm a beginning learner of web design.
I'm working on an element that rotates 360° on mouseover.

    using transform: rotate(359deg);

All other browsers rotate clockwise 359°. Safari doesn't budge. Then i realized it was moving, just rotating 1° counter clockwise.
Any degree value I give it, Safari takes the shortest route.
    So, 90° = clockwise, 270° = counter clockwise, etc…

Is there any way to force Safari to rotate in the same direction as all other browsers?

I tried using -webkit-transform instead, but that did nothing.
    Very confused.

    Keeping current?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 01:44 PM PDT

I am currently learning web dev and plan on getting my first job programming this year. I know that the first few years are all about getting up to speed. But.. After someone is in a mid-level position, how much time is spent learning outside of work? I know it will be different for everyone but I would love to hear from mid and senior devs about how much time they spend outside of work keeping current/up to speed.

Where is Web dev headed? (Noob questions)

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 07:22 AM PDT

    Hi!

I am in digital marketing for 7+ years, and of course, always thinking about expanding my horizons (and billable skills :) )

While researching various starting points in programming (which I am a big fan of :) I stumbled upon web development and in my mind, it kinda clicked.

It would be a perfect combination - knowing all the growth marketing stuff + being able to create webpages. So I started to dig deeper into how to get started and things like platform web dev etc.

But then I realized that in my 7 years (launching many webpages on WordPress) I never needed anything but third-party tools/page builders/themes to cover my needs.

On the other hand, I see the web dev community/industry thriving and growing.

The question is - since the vast majority of basic and intermediate needs can be solved with drag and drop tools and themes, who are your typical clients?

Why would they need to hire an expensive web developer if there is a high probability that they can solve their needs with a theme, plugin, or $200 subscription on Instapages?

Or it is more of a "luxury service" that you buy when you have everything else and more covered.

Thankful in advance for any insight that web dev professionals will share.

Hello, I'm trying to find a website related to webddev but I can't remember the name, maybe you can help.

    Posted: 17 Mar 2021 12:17 PM PDT

Hi kind people from webdev community. So, one year or two ago I saw a post (from wired or vice motherboard, something like that) talking about an online tool where you could create a basic html (I think) page with limited characters, without need to host it, because the page was encrypted (not sure) in the url. I don't remember exactly how the url stuff worked, but I think this was the basic concept of it..
Any ideas ? Already spent the afternoon searching in google, perhaps I need a google search engine degree. xD Thanks
