I still can't wrap my head around Express.js. Could anyone please explain it to me? Posted: 23 Sep 2020 02:58 PM PDT After watching a some guides about it and even using it a few times, I still can't figure out what it is. I would like to know if companies or web devs. actually use it? I use Vue.js. Does Vue do it itself? Or vue-router? Pardon my ignorance. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Trying to pick up a framework for 2020-2021 Posted: 23 Sep 2020 12:44 PM PDT Hi everyone, I've been studying front-end for a while now, in hope to break into web dev career. I'm almost done with advanced js topics, and about to pick a framework/lib to master. Most articles/posts/yt videos recommend react, but most of them are also from a year or two ago. Will react stay relevant in 2020-2021 and beyond (near future.) Also, What libs/frames have the most job opportunities? Thank you. [link] [comments]
What are some pain points with using Incremental Static Regen? Posted: 23 Sep 2020 04:20 PM PDT I've noticed it's hard to test exported lambda functions without the AWS SAM debugging tool, but I'm trying to see what issues other people are running into. [link] [comments]

Custom develop landing pages vs. page builder Posted: 23 Sep 2020 03:06 PM PDT I run an e-commerce company and currently have all our landing pages on WordPress using the Divi theme. This theme isn't meant for landers as it doesn't load very quickly. The pages have very little javascript -- just the nav bar. I am trying to determine if I want to develop these pages custom while leveraging different packages to make the pages fast as possible (minify, lazyload, etc.) or if I should just put them on a different theme in Wordpress and optimize with plugins . I like the idea of moving them off Wordpress and into custom builds to optimize the speed. We get over 150,000 hits to these pages a month so optimizing for page load could really make a difference in conversions. What are your thoughts on going custom vs. Wordpress or another page builder like unbounce? [link] [comments]
How do I stick a right-side taskbar to my central container? Posted: 23 Sep 2020 01:51 PM PDT I have a simple drawing application which contains a central div element with the canvas. I've been using Bootstrap4 and cols for spacing. It works pretty well, but I want to have a taskbar on the immediate right of this div and have it stuck next to it at all times. I have been able to stick it to the right of the window (using right:0) but can't seem to stick it to the div. Any ideas on this? [link] [comments]
Why isn't my non-essential cookie being ignored? Posted: 23 Sep 2020 01:46 PM PDT I am working through Adam Freeman's book "Pro ASP.Net Core 3" (8th edition). I am trying an example that illustrates the distinction between essential and non-essential cookies. The first time I did this, I got the expected result, with a counter stored in one cookie being incremented and the other one not. This time, though, counters in both cookies are being incremented. I ran this example once before, and I'm pretty sure I saw it work as expected. I rebuilt and reran that solution, and both counters are being incremented. Supposedly, setting IsEssential to true for cookie Counter1 and not for counter 2, adding a service to use cookie policy options that always returns true, and adding UseCookiePolicy() to the route should be sufficient to let Counter1 through to the web page but not Counter2. Why is this not working? Here's the code: [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Sep 2020 12:04 PM PDT We're all familiar with this setup for protecting the wp-login.php file by now. That works great. But I also have another login in a shortcode (partial code below) ... wp_login_form( array( 'echo' => false, 'remember' => false, 'value_remember' => false ) ); ... that I use on a different page - lets call it: https://somesite.com/otherloginpage/ Is there any way I can have /otherloginpage/ skip the .htaccess login? I previously found this here: https://www.askapache.com/htaccess/ But it doesn't work for exactly what I want to do. I believe I need to set a referrer somehow rather than a domain/IP. Also, can this be added to within the <files> section? It seems to cause errors at the Order Deny,Allow line. Any ideas on how to get a referring URL into some logic to skip the .htaccess login requirements? [link] [comments]
Domain Subdirectory Product Description Posted: 23 Sep 2020 11:54 AM PDT Quick question for anyone in eCommerce, does the order of your product copy (brand , model name, description, followed by the part number) on a domain subdirectory influence your SEO? Domain Registrars Stealing Domains? Posted: 23 Sep 2020 11:17 AM PDT A while back I had been working on a project locally and it came time to finally decide on a domain name. So I go search up some name ideas on domain registrars (Google and GoDaddy) and settle on a name. For whatever reason I decided not register the domain then and there, (probably because I wanted to discuss it with my partner first, it was over a year ago and I don't remember all the details). Either way the very next day I go to register the domain and its gone. Ultimately it wasn't too much of a hassle because I had another option to go with. I thought it was strange that this happened, but didn't think too much of it because I know domains are always being swooped up in bulk and figured it was a coincidence. Recently I stumbled across a video claiming that GoDaddy registers domains that are searched through their service and resold at the traditional resale markup of $1,000 USD +. I went and did a WHOIS lookup on the domain and it was registered to a foreign IT company through GoDaddy's registrar. Could this still be a coincidence? Absolutely, but there seems to be many anecdotal reports of things like this happening to others specifically after using GoDaddy for a domain lookup. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Help on creating a inside virtual wallet to a restaurant app Posted: 23 Sep 2020 05:09 AM PDT Hi there! I am doing a restaurant app that will have a virtual wallet implemented. I already did the part that the user loads the virtual wallet with money, using credit card, etc etc. I can put data on the firebase about the value that the wallet has been charge. My problem is the part when paying any restaurant order with the wallet. I have the wallet value variable lets say with 10 euros/$. I can subtract the value of the order with the value of the wallet, but thats just virtual data/virtual money.. My problem is how to connect the wallet with that data. Is there any function, module for virtual wallets? Any normal order payment the user uses credit card, mbway, bank refm etc, but if the user chooses to use the wallet, the wallet only have virtual money in it, because it is just data. Because when the user is loading the wallet that money goes to the app money account. I dont know if i am making any sense or not Lets me explain better. I have one variable callet wallet on each user on the dataBase. The user can load the wallet with money, that the money goes to an admin account and then that wallet variable is increased by the value that the user payed. At this time, the wallet its just data, because the user money is in a admin account. So when the user uses the wallet is just using data. My problem is how to pass that data to money for the user to use on the order. My option is to use that admin account to pull the order value from it. But i dont know. Thats why i am here asking for help. [link] [comments]
Moving site host isn't being represented by DNS Posted: 23 Sep 2020 11:04 AM PDT Hi, I recently moved my site from Github pages to Heroku. I've set up my domain so that it's pointing to the new heroku application, though it seems that it's not working. When I use my domain url, it still points to a 404 github pages site. Both Heroku and Google Domains are both claiming there are no errors and that the SSL link works Any advice??? EDIT: As someone pointed out below, This was caused by my local cashed DNS using the incorrect route. Another question I have is: How do I make sure the redirect uses my 'www.domain.com' URL rather than my 'project.herokuapp.com' URL? When I use my domain, it redirects to the herokuapp domain instead. How do I mask this / make sure the heroku domain doesn't appear?? [link] [comments]
SEO with SSR vs. Prerendering - Pros/Cons of each? Posted: 23 Sep 2020 10:59 AM PDT Content writer here. I'm writing a blog post for a client about the SEO considerations of three JavaScript frameworks: Angular, Vue.js, and React. I've been reading up on this topic all morning. It seems that Angular defaults to client-side rendering, which is bad for SEO, but you can configure it to use server-side rendering by using the Angular Universal library. Or, you can use Prerendering tools (e.g. Prerender.io) to render the static HTML and deliver it to web crawlers for you. From what I understand, this is a nice alternative because it's less resource-intensive than setting up your own server, which you need with Angular Universal. Can someone with more webdev chops than I have tell me some of the other SEO pros/cons of each? Thank you! [link] [comments]
