pro gamedev tip: "marketing" doesn't just mean "buying ads", it also means analyzing your product's place in the market, its relation to other similar products, its relation to its potential consumers...

    Posted: 13 Aug 2020 04:49 PM PDT

if you're paying "for marketing" and all that means is your game has some banners ads on social media, your money is being wasted.

    That's all.

    Creating infinity prefabs in Unity

    Creating infinity prefabs in Unity

    Hello guys,

I've attached a picture of my code that I've learned from a Brackey's tutorial. I am not that experience with coding and so, I've been working on this tiny project as a starter. The problem I'm facing is that in the tutorial, Brackey teaches you to create ''numberOfPlatforms'' as a public int instead of an infinity generated platform for an endless jumper game such as this.

I was wondering if any of you can tell me how I can turn this code from manually putting in how many platforms to spawn to an automatically generated infinity platform spawner.

    Thank you!

How does a game like Fall Guys not lose money on server cost?

    Posted: 14 Aug 2020 10:55 AM PDT

I'm looking at using AWS gamelift for a multiplayer game but I can't really figure out how to estimate server cost.

It confuses me how a game like Fall Guys that I believe uses dedicated servers can be downloaded for $20~ and not lose a whole lot of money to servers.

I see that they have +2,000,000 downloads on Steam with about 100,000~ players actually playing the game at a time. So do they just predict how much the average player will actually play and then sell based on that?

Or does Fall Guys actually just use player to player networking somehow??

Games that have a battle pass like Apex or Fortnite make sense because it can continually offset operational costs. Pls help lol

Mobile gaming devs: How do you figure out how many installs you need for a taste of retention rate?

    Posted: 14 Aug 2020 10:50 AM PDT

    Hi experts,

I'm wondering how did you figure out how many installs you need to assess retention rate? I'm reading some online guides, some mention 5K and some mention 2K, but they are all very general and don't speak about the why. And from statistics perspective, I don't think I can give a hard number (because I need the real number to compare with my hypothesis, say 40% D2 retention rate)

BTW this is for mobile gaming (Google Store/Apple Store), not Steam.

    Thanks a bunch!
