Any C.S. masters programs that will accept late admission for the Fall semester?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 05:10 AM PDT

I was recently laid off along with some other people due to COVID-19. I was already planning to apply to programs starting in the Spring of 2021. However, I think I might as well try and just start a program since I'm unemployed and want to do it anyways. Does anyone have any leads, or know of any programs which might be willing to grant me late admission? Any help is appreciated :)

[R] Impact of ImageNet Model Selection on Domain Adaptation

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 07:34 AM PDT

It is known that training and updating of the machine learning model depend on data annotation. We often have a serious problem that lacks labeled data for training in the real world. Therefore, it is often necessary to transfer knowledge from an existing labeled domain to an unlabeled new domain. However, due to the phenomenon of data bias or domain shift, machine learning models do not generalize well from an existing domain to a novel unlabeled domain.

Domain adaptation has been a promising method to mitigate the domain shift problem. Recently, deep neural networks have achieved great success in some standard image recognition datasets. However, little work addresses how features from different deep neural networks affect the domain adaptation problem. Existing methods often extract deep features from one ImageNet model without exploring other neural networks. In this paper, we investigate how different ImageNet models affect transfer accuracy on domain adaptation problems. We extract features from sixteen distinct pre-trained ImageNet models and examine the performance of twelve benchmarking methods when using the features. Extensive experimental results show that a higher accuracy ImageNet model produces better features, and leads to higher accuracy on domain adaptation problems.

How can I show my determination to comp sci? Applying for university

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 01:12 AM PDT

Hey guys, I am really keen on going into deep learning/AI as my career path. I did some projects utilizing tensorflow object detection during my high school internship. How can I further boost my portfolio to show universities that I am competent and determined in this field?

I have 2 years(Soon to be enlisted in my mandatory military service) to boost my resume.

As a start, I enrolled myself for a machine learning certification course. What else can I do to prove my worth?

P.S I have a diploma in Aerospace Engineering but it was only during my final year project where I found I really wanted to do AI and was genuinely curious in it.

    International Biotech Hackathon

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 06:32 PM PDT

    Hi redditors,

Helyx, an international bioinformatics nonprofit, is hosting a hackathon that will last from april 10th-12th for high school students on discord. There will be an $800 prize pool, and a chance to be entered into a national pitchfest competition hosted by Spark Teen (our presenting sponsor), where you pitch your creation and compete against other entries to win $6000. You can either sign up alone and find teams on Discord or sign up with your team for FREE (teams of 2-4). We ENCOURAGE new programmers as well as experienced ones as there will be on-site, expert help to guide you along the way. You can also become an official Hackthehelyx Hackathon AMBASSADOR by inviting 6 or more people and having them indicate that on the registration form. If you're interested, please check the website linked below, register using the form on the website, and also join the Discord for more info. If you have any questions, please send me an email.

Compare two recorded piano music on mobile app.

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 09:49 AM PDT

I am building a mobile application.

The app will compare two recorded music sounds (played on piano).

Main parameters for comparison - Tempo, pitch (can include other parameters as well).

Do you happen to know any related application for the reference?

How do I log a QR code

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 06:32 AM PDT

Hey, I want to make a database of how many people have scanned a certain QR code. So say phone A scans QR1 and a minute later phone B scans QR1. In my database, it should say that QR1 was scanned by both Phone A and Phone B. How would I go about doing this. I know I need SQL for the database, anything else? I realize that this is really vague but any pointers would be appreciated.
