Insane Interactive Resume Site Posted: 01 Sep 2019 03:28 AM PDT Hey guys, stumbled upon this beauty of a site. It isn't mine but it looks like every object on the screen is its own individual div which is really cool. [link] [comments]

Concerns about being pigeonholed Posted: 01 Sep 2019 06:49 AM PDT As a junior developer, is being pigeonholed into certain languages / tech stacks something I need to be concerned about for my future career? I'm working for a firm right now that almost exclusively uses Wordpress. If I continue working there for several years, or switch to a new job that is also primarily Wordpress, do I run the risk of only being employable as a Wordpress developer? [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Aug 2019 10:16 PM PDT Hey all, I'm a developer for a consulting company. I recently interviewed with a client's team lead where we were exploring an opportunity. I thought readers here might benefit from hearing some of these questions. Normally my interviews have some business/process questions verse purely technical questions. My team was looking to assist a team of 80 developers on a large .NET project, here's what the lead asked me:
Explain your past experiences listed on your resume. *notice how little he asked about really technical stuff. You should know that stuff regardless- lots of junior devs forget that. Make sure you know how to explain your skills but also work in team, alongside pm's, etc. Cheers 🍻 [link] [comments]
What's this "blue Square stack" logo from? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 01:09 PM PDT Slightly off topic but a colleague brought in some programming web development related stickers and I thought this one looked good. Frantic googling and even using the Google image recognition didn't give me any results for what it is though. Doesn't help that the design is quite generic. [link] [comments]
Best practices for requests for non-existent pages? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 08:57 AM PDT Hey all, I own a small web business with a backend built in CakePHP. Don't think my question is specific to that framework, but it may be relevant to the errors. Anyway, periodically, I get errors like the following in the Cake error logs: I believe (especially because of the Wp-login error) that these are because something is trying to blindly scan my site. What's best practice on these kinds of events? Should I just accept that I'll generate an error log that contains the result of blind scans, or should I be doing something to stop these before they get to that stage? Thanks for your help! Posted: 01 Sep 2019 07:38 AM PDT I'd like to trust that the 3rd party already took care of it so I don't want to still have them confirm again on my app. But I wasn't sure if best practice and whether that's dangerous or not. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 04:15 PM PDT Haven't seen shit like this for 10+ years. Amateur internet marketers flooding Australian FB using CNN branding + rappers images. Consequence? This has been going on for 6 months now.. FB ads full blast. They have many different websites. The amount they have spent on advertisements must be staggering. What are the repercussions of this and why hasn't this been stopped? [link] [comments]
Issues with payments pro plugin in OSClass Posted: 01 Sep 2019 04:10 PM PDT I installed the plugin and i keep getting an error like this: Plugin couldn't be installed because of: Error importSQL::ModelPaymentPro I reinstalled it multiple times and still this error. [link] [comments]
Anyone know good WYSIWYG that's similar to MS Word Online? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 12:23 PM PDT Been using TinyMCE for ages now, but wan't to change ship to something different. I pretty much got a custom Flask CMS for a site, that's been using TinyMCE to make redacting and editing of pages easier and to make them fancy. As it stands I would like to swap the WYSIWYG editor to something more along the lines of Microsoft Word Online, I like the whole page layout and that's pretty much where I'm going to be heading with new UI. Sadly I can't find anything that's fitting. Any suggestions are welcomed, and no I'm not writing one since I suck with jQuery and JavaScript (badly). P.S. Open Source and Free :D [link] [comments]
I understand CSS grid but fail to apply it Posted: 01 Sep 2019 04:04 PM PDT I'm new to webdev and trying to get into the habit of building pages with CSS grid. Every tutorial I stumble upon features very simple blocky layouts that cover the entire body. This is great for learning but not very useful in practice. I understand the theory, but the moment a website's contents stop being so perfectly aligned, I struggle to come up with a grid for it. Basically I feel as if I were shoehorning grids in rather than using them to my advantage. Am I supposed to be using a lot more grid lines than showcased in most examples? Multiple grids per page? How would you apply css grid to something like this for example? [link] [comments]
Beginner: Help with HTTP Request to IBM Cloud Posted: 01 Sep 2019 03:46 PM PDT Hey, I am trying to use the Tone Analyzer in IBM Cloud using a GET request. I'm doing this to just get started and will proceed on going from there. But, this problem is something I have been struggling for at least a week. I am getting the error "Unauthorized" on POSTMAN. I know I posted my API Key here but I'll deactivate it after I figure it out. Thank you :)) [link] [comments]
Not sure what I want to do anymore Posted: 01 Sep 2019 02:35 PM PDT Hi, I'm currently a student at a community college for Graphics Design potentially entering the IXD bachelors degree there. I haven't yet really stepped into the field but lately I've been having a lot of doubts on whether or not I really want to be in this field anymore. I studied web for 3+ years on and off and at the time I thought this was what I wanted to do but struggled with getting myself to work on it consistently. I initially wanted to do a lot of things involving web dev in terms of design and front end development. But now I've decided to eliminate the design aspect because designing for others sounds like it will really affect my mental health as I've already stressed to the point of depression about pleasing a client before. Right now, I feel like I'm not naturally good enough or have the insane drive to break into this industry purely by self studying. I'm afraid I may have wasted my time but at the same time, I feel like if I push myself further I might be able to make it. I've already spent an embarrassing amount of years trying to obtain my AA (contributed by my ADHD and depression) and I feel like I don't have the luxury to keep figuring it out anymore. At the moment, I'm considering the IXD degree for a more stable chance of obtaining a job and enter the UX Design field and will be speaking to a Councelor to help me with figuring out what I truly want to do. Since this is still constantly on my mind and my appointment til then won't be for 2 weeks, I wanted to gain some insight from the web dev community on what you guys think about my situation. I really appreciate it for taking the time to read my post and share any thoughts you have on it. [link] [comments]
Published my first Gatsby Starter. Feedback is much appreciated Posted: 01 Sep 2019 02:31 PM PDT A couple days ago I published a Gatsby Starter featuring Redux, Material UI & Contentful, primarily for portfolios and blogs. It's really simple for now, my purpose was to keep it clean, but there is a big to-do list for upcoming features. https://github.com/chronisp/gatsby-starter Any feedback regarding the code is much appreciated. How many projects do you put in your portfolio for the first time of applying? Posted: 01 Sep 2019 01:05 PM PDT Hello guys! Just a little background, I've seen this job posting in my city and it only requires HTMT, CSS, and minor JS. I want to give it a shot and currently making portfolio and making projects. I just want to know how many projects should a person put in his/her portfolio when they are beginners? Are there any standards for this? Btw, based, on the job description, my project should be exhibiting great css animation, a minor JS, and a knowledge of using tools like Bootstrap. Any reply would help and is deeply appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 01:41 AM PDT I'm starting web dev struggling to get a first gig on a freelancer. 2 months ago I got this email http://i.imgur.com/LxDznSO.png and I couldn't agree with a "client" on payment method so no money exchanged. Today I got two new emails http://i.imgur.com/HYmyqPv.png and http://i.imgur.com/XJF0WPb.png. Did you notice a pattern? After a quick google search I found a blog post about these scams and exactly the same email template. So this is just a friendly reminder and warning not too get tricked by these "job opportunities", especially if you are new to this like me. I was so hyped for that first gig 2 months ago, but didn't fall for it. Still no valid offers but I certainly won't quit. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Sep 2019 06:57 AM PDT I'm thinking of using React.js for the frontend and Django for the backend. Is it the right choice, or should I use something else? Also how should I proceed in making such an application? [link] [comments]

Unofficial GM Connected Vehicle API in C# Posted: 31 Aug 2019 03:45 PM PDT Hey! I've spent countless hours on this project for the good of the community and I'm hoping there are others that will find it useful. https://github.com/q39JzrRa/GM-Vehicle-API I have reverse engineered the API used by the myChevrolet app (also myBuick, myGmc, myCadillac etc) and created a C# .NET Standard wrapper around it. Also included is a demonstration WPF App Because I am not comfortable sharing the client secrets, nor am I comfortable sharing the algorithm used to extract them, I spun up a web service in Heroku that will "outsource" signing the JWT tokens. In other words without sharing the client secret anybody should now be able to directly access the GM APIs in their own code for things such as locking and unlocking, remote start, remote alarm, diagnostics - any functionality supported by the Android app is now available in your custom code. Integrate starting your car with motion detectors. Create a wall mounted charge state indicator. I came across several articles from 2013 in which GM promised to deliver this API to developers (similar to how Tesla has). They created a site (https://developer.gm.com) where you can request access - but as far as I can tell, nobody has received any replies. So... here you go. Hope somebody finds this useful. (Maybe better on a Saturday?) [link] [comments] |
