What are things I need to know before becoming a Computer Science student?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 01:25 AM PDT

I just finished 11th grade and currently in summer vacation. My question is, what are basically the important "prior-learning" topics that I need to (or should) learn before college? My knowledge in programming (I know Computer Science isn't programming) is very limited and I don't know that much about the degree, but I want to become a game developer in the future. Do you learn everything in college from scratch? Is it okay to enter without any knowledge of it beforehand? Or would it help me immensely if I learn a language like C++?

I'm an IB student btw and I take Math HL which covers a ton of things and very challenging & we type a ton of research papers and I basically self-taught myself the Physics HL course. What I'm trying to say is, in terms of learning by myself & Math, I'm covered and have no worries there.

Practical Guide on Data Dictionary Design and Maintenance

    Posted: 06 Aug 2019 12:43 AM PDT

When data is collected and stored, properly defining each field's meaning and purpose is the job of a comprehensive data dictionary.

A data dictionary labels and describes how an organization collects, transforms, and stores its (data) inventory; without one, data may seem vague or mysterious as end users observe data without comprehending it: Practical Data Dictionary Design and Maintenance

The following questions are covered in the manual above:

    • What Is a Data Dictionary
    • Why Data Definition is Essential
    • When Is It Time for a Data Dictionary
    • Data Dictionary Roles and Responsibilities
    • Data Dictionary Framework (Setting Best Practices)
    • Data Dictionary Template

    Can someone recommend books?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 09:31 AM PDT

So I need to learn the following topics, are there any books or 1 book that covers all of these?

    • Statically typed & Dynamically typed, what do they mean exactly?
    • Weakly Typed, Loosely Typed, Strongly-Typed - what do they exactly mean?
    • Differences between compilers and interpreters
    • Binary, Hexadecimal, Octal, and ASCII ( what are these? )
    • Machine code and how high-level languages make it to it.
    • Hashing, Salting, Encryption (?)
    • Common design patterns for programming

    Many thanks.
