Re-doing personal website in Angular, wondering about converting my resume to JSON Posted: 04 May 2019 06:56 AM PDT Hello,I am currently re-doing my website in Angular or React, maybe just VanillaJS - right now it is just a static site that has an HTML document.I am considering converting my resume into JSON with the thought updating would be easier as I could loop through the objects and have the older ones drop off as newer are added. I would also need to be able to provide a word and pdf version for the lazy recruiters. Any thoughts or suggestions? Should I even bother converting my resume to JSON, is there any real benefits? I've a terrible memory. How should I prepare for an upcoming technical interview? Posted: 04 May 2019 11:12 AM PDT I've an upcoming technical interview for a full-stack engineer in a few days and I'm not exactly sure how I should prepare for it. I've been a full-stack developer for about 4 years and I did computer science at university. However, I don't exactly use data structures and algorithms all the time at work. I have forgotten many of them I've learnt in school. I think I've a pretty poor memory at remembering things. In one of my interviews a few days ago, I was asked about depth-first search. I could roughly tell what a depth-first search is about, but I couldn't code anything using it. I looked up online after the interview, took about 30mins to read up on it and I went like "okay, so it's just this. damn!" I've relied too much on google. I google all the time at all work for everything because I tend to forget them. For example, I can't recall the difference between The problem, though, is no interviewers will trust me if I've to google for every little thing. I have to get past the interview before I can land myself in a job and then I can start relying on google again. Right now, I'm reading up all that data structures and revisiting the docs for the things I often forget but I realise there so many of them and I doubt I'm going to remember every single thing for the upcoming interview. The stress level at interviews will only make things worse. How should I prepare for coding interviews? I don't know why I don't seem like I use these data structures and algorithms often at work. Do software engineers really use data structure and algorithms on a daily basis that these things become second nature to them and they can just answer to any random scenarios given in interviews? Question about hugo + netlify + getform Posted: 04 May 2019 02:40 PM PDT I got a potential client asking me to do them a Wordpress website about their hair salon, the website is rather simple it's a 4 pages with one of them having a contact form to take an appointment. I was wondering if it wouldn't be better to use hugo to make the website, netlify cms or forestry for the cms, getform for handling the form (the paid plan is 9$/m which sound reasonable) since anyway they wouldn't have to pay for the hosting. To me it sounds better than using Wordpress, it would be faster and more secure. Did anyone already tried this stack? if yes any thoughts on it? Thanks. [link] [comments]

What's a realistic amount of compensation for Freelance Web Dev work? (Noob question) Posted: 04 May 2019 07:54 AM PDT I know I have a ton of work to get to where I need to be but I'm trying to get an idea what the appropriate ballpark is for Freelance Web Development work. Of course this isn't a simple question because each project and persons skill level can vary wildly. Can some experienced Web Developers that did freelance work give me an idea of what compensation you should expect for the size of project you take on. If possible could you link the project you worked on with the amount of compensation you received for it. Please PM me if you don't want to post it directly in the comments here. I'm a noob in the industry and just trying to get a realistic picture of what to aim at. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 May 2019 03:08 PM PDT With this many new technologies and tools emerging, and also in the first place, how do you find the motivation to keep learning? I am learning Web Development alone and have no study friends or groups and find it really difficult to stay focused or motivated. Thanks for you input [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 May 2019 03:05 PM PDT Hi, I have issue with my website slowing down after visiting the non-https version. I have modified added the following lines to .htaccess file RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301] It does work and redirects to the https site. However, If i tried to load it again the website times out and I have to wait for another 15 mins for it to start loading on regular speed. This only happens when I visit the http version. Any ideas how can I fix this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 May 2019 02:55 PM PDT I'm not sure this discussion really have its place here but i don't really know where to post this if it's not the case. I'd like to open a discussion about Dark Themes on websites in general. This is something many websites started to offer, and many people are using it, and might become an accessibility good practice, as it reduce visual fatigue. However, the user need to configure this for every website, and you either need a cookie or an account on the website to save this (so not saved when you use private browsing for example). I think that telling a website that you want a dark theme may be the job of your browser. This offer several advantages: - You have the possibility to set this parameter globally, so even if a website you never visited implements this communication method you will have the dark theme without searching in the settings manually ; also you might save your retina because no bright page will appear on your screen. Moreover, if you use many different PCs, it's very easy to change your preferences. - It's really easy to setup a global switch from a mode to the other, for example if you like bright theme during day and dark during night.. - Your settings are saved without using accounts or cookies, and your settings will be used even if you're on private browsing. The major downside i see is, of course, that this need a standardization which is never easy. I haven't found anything on this topic and i would like to discuss about your thoughts on this subject, and maybe your ideas of a way to implement this on the web. What i thought in the first place is a HTTP header boolean, something similar to the "Do Not Track" bit, but i'm not sure that theme options are meant to be in a HTTP request, [link] [comments]

Does anyone know what the best PHP Full Stack Courses are for beginners? Posted: 04 May 2019 02:31 PM PDT Does anyone know what the best PHP Full Stack Courses are for beginners? I'm interested in learning PHP Full Stack to eventually get a job as a web developer. I would prefer PHP as a back-end. I would like to mess around with WordPress. That's the main reason I would prefer PHP over Node. Unless there are already some really good alternatives to WordPress made with Node that I don't know about? [link] [comments]

Finished first draft of portfolio and would like some general feedback Posted: 04 May 2019 06:19 AM PDT (It's hosted on a free tier on Heroku while I still work on it so it may take a few seconds to load after being slept.) I've finished the first draft of my personal portfolio site that showcases some of my major projects and would like some general feedback on design, content and perhaps what you think of the projects themselves. Made with Node, Express and Pug - the Github repo is here. I know maybe a templating engine is a bit overkill for what is essentially a static site but I wanted to use it as an opportunity to learn the technology. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Trying a new variant of Sudoku in JS Posted: 04 May 2019 10:02 AM PDT Hi, I have tried to create a simple variant of Sudoku. Here you play with bot. The UI need a lot of polishing but still thought to share it. You need to maximise the score to beat the bot. For maximising the score you need to find the cell with maximum numeric value while solving sudoku. Here is the sample very bad code in JS https://jsfiddle.net/GamesMint/0bprLjsd/4/ . You could also try this on play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gamesmint.sumine Could you guys be kind enough to share your valuable feedback. Thanks for your time.
