Career domain in Distributed Systems Posted: 24 Apr 2019 12:59 AM PDT My area of interest is Distributed Systems, but I'm in no way an expert on this subject. I'm a beginner, passed out of college less than a year ago. I've read several papers written by Lamport, went through a lot of present day scalable solutions. The issue now is that I have a lot of potholes because I didn't follow a set syllabus/agenda. What do you think would be the right way to go from noob to ninja on this subject? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Apr 2019 06:41 AM PDT Formal or informal, just with the assumption that the reader does not have prior experience with functional programming and monads. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Apr 2019 03:46 AM PDT Hi, compsci I work as a Automation Engineer in an MNC. I am a bit tired of doing this. I am planning to work on a different technology which interests me more. How do I determine what interests me more and if I am competent enough to do it? [link] [comments] |
What are the most respected peer reviewed journals in CS and what’s up with arXiv? Posted: 23 Apr 2019 03:13 PM PDT I am new to CS but I come from biochemistry and I am familiar with the big interdisciplinary journals like Nature, Science, and PNAS. Some of the big biochem journals are JBC, and Cell. What are some of the big journals in CS overall and what are the big ones for things like algorithms and AI? Lastly, what's is up with arXiv? Is it just a free repository for papers published elsewhere, or is it its own journal? Why is it so popular? [link] [comments] |
Why deep learning may not be the right solution for a business Posted: 24 Apr 2019 12:40 AM PDT Way too many businesses reach for deep learning solutions when they shouldn't. There are several factors that make relatively simpler models more suitable than their deep learning counterparts:
There are lots of cases of companies bogged down in a deep AI solution they had no business getting into in the first place, and most often the best solution is the simplest solution that works (see the article for more details): Why deep learning may not be the right solution for your business [link] [comments] |

Potential Risks Of Artificial Intelligence Posted: 24 Apr 2019 12:02 AM PDT |
Posted: 23 Apr 2019 05:12 PM PDT Is it a bug if you intentionally code it one way but as a result it produces certain unwanted features? For example, if I coded a program using recursion but the recursive algorithm made it so that the program also did another thing that I didn't expect it to do? This extra thing that happened wasn't something that I didn't want to happen, just didn't suspect would happen. [link] [comments] |
