What are some big problems in computer science that have a spatial component?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2018 06:26 AM PST

I asked this on r/gis here but thought I'd ask here to get a full range of answers.

I'm an undergraduate in GIS (Geographic Information Science) and have to choose a topic for my final research/honors project. I have a significant computer science background and would be interested in something involving programming or algorithms. I love graphics but know very little of it. What are some big problems in computer science and GIS that I can work on? I would love to actually make some progress in a problem that is being worked on now.

Topics in GIS involve satellites, remote sensing, imagery analysis, mapping and maps, visualization, spatial databases, anything here, and really anything with a spatial component.
