Leetcode is really helping my confidence as a junior! Posted: 08 Sep 2021 09:46 AM PDT When I was first learning, I mostly focused in projects. And that was great but I always felt like my JS skills were weak. Even my current job, I had a leetcode test and failed miserably. It was a miracle I got the job. I started doing leetcoded the past week and I feel like such a better programmer. Even though right now I've only done like 15 of the easy mode ones, I still have much more confidence than before. Wish I'd have started sooner tbh [link] [comments]

Anybody working in the gaming industry? Posted: 08 Sep 2021 04:35 PM PDT Hi all, I'm wondering if anybody here is currently working on the gaming industry, whether that be creating websites, web-baaed tools etc for games. If so, what does your current role involve? [link] [comments]

Boss Lied About The Job / Victim Of Wrongful Hiring Posted: 08 Sep 2021 10:56 AM PDT Hello, I'm venting a little bit by also need advice. So I graduated from a 6 month Full Stack Web Dev bootcamp at the end of 2019. I ended up getting hired as Junior Web Developer right before the pandemic by a small time Oil & Gas Company. Not my preferred choice for an industry but I took the first job offer I received. Initially my job description said that "The Junior Developer candidate is responsible for designing, developing, delivering and implementing data-driven desktop and Web applications and assisting in the development and maintenance of company applications (Internet and Intranet). " Over time I realized this wasn't true and I was nothing more than a WordPress Developer doing basic maintenance and updates on the company website. I've also been forced to assist the company with random I.T. tasks, as if I was an IT assistant or help desk. I don't feel that I'm being utilized to my potential and not learning enough about web dev except on my own time which is why I plan on leaving. Side note: In hindsight, I should of been very skeptical of the position from the start because I got it without building a web portfolio and the interview was relatively easy, way too easy. I wasn't asked anything that would really test my programming knowledge. As someone new to the industry and web dev, I took the job simply because I needed a job and also in a rush to start in my new career as I previously used to work construction, which I hated. At this job I was expected to work under an IT Consultant with a basic knowledge of web dev and a Marketing Manager which later left the company. Essentially I'm the only web developer at the company. I quickly realized this was not the best environment for a new developer, as my goal is to be a front or back end developer utilizing technologies such as React, Vue, Typescript, Laravel, .NET. The only reason I did not quit earlier was due to the pandemic and worries about not being able to find a job due to COVID. Now that the vaccine is out and things are going back to somewhat normal, I'm looking for another job. So the question is: Will future employer's that write "real code" take WordPress developers seriously due to how easy it is? I feel like I wasted over a year at this job and it wouldn't count as real work experience. I feel like I'm viewed skill wise on the same level as any new bootcamp graduate or Self-Taught developer. It's not the end of the world because I'm still relatively young and early in my career, but I want to know if I should avoid anything related to WordPress as I continue in my career. All advice is greatly appreciated, Thanks [link] [comments]
UK Developers, how stressful is web development? Posted: 08 Sep 2021 12:06 PM PDT It seems most other responses are US related, and I'd like to know more about the reality in the UK. I'm learning dev atm but I don't have a high stress tolerance which could make it an incompatible fit. [link] [comments]
What would you recommend me to learn in order to achieve this webpage? Posted: 08 Sep 2021 10:53 AM PDT As a context of myself, I have very little knowledge of Web development, but I'm a c++ video game developer. I'm trying to create a basic website that will have the following features:
I know there might be a lot of this, but I'm trying to create something specific for my country that doesn't have a centralized place to look for this dancing schools, and we are trying to create one so more people would join the community. I have a couple of questions that are:

Domain registrar suddenly raises price to 2x the original after I did an offer, can I do something? Posted: 08 Sep 2021 02:15 PM PDT I saw a domain I was very interested in, for €290. The domain hasn't been used since 2001. First, I did an offer of €110, then €210. Both were rejected. So then I gave up and wanted to buy the domain for €290 (the original price). All of a sudden I saw that they raised the price to €590. So here I am, pretty pissed. Can I somehow buy it for €290? Are my chances gone? Does this happen often? [link] [comments]
Books/resources to learn industry standards/best practices Posted: 08 Sep 2021 11:18 AM PDT I've just got my first job as a full stack developer using angular and spring. I am from embedded and desktop application development so this is quite new to me. The company is aware of this and is okay with me learning on the job. I've got the basics down from playing around but now I am looking for something to learn industry standards and just to make me feel more comfortable suggesting things in sprint meetings and other meetings in general. I would like to be a more vocal member but I am finding myself being unsure of my suggestions because web is not my specialty. Can anyone suggest resources for angular primarily but also on spring? Also general web development may also be useful (http/cors/ any other random thing which may be useful to know) Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
How to land a job with Udemy courses only ? Posted: 08 Sep 2021 05:29 AM PDT I can't afford college or a bootcamp since I'm broke. I had programming passion since I was a kid, so the only way for me is Udemy courses. What should I do, which courses to take, should I follow the tutorials, how to follow properly, and did anyone here succeeded while taking Udemy courses only and land their first job in 6 months ? TIA! [link] [comments]

help with chrome extension hacking personal data causing huge loss of funds Posted: 08 Sep 2021 04:05 PM PDT Hi, This is a question for those familiar with chrome extensions and how data exploits happen via their permissions... Last Thursday, I suffered a major 70k worth of crypto hack of 2 personal self-custody wallets of mine and after much analysis, I have determined that it was due to a chrome extension accessing personal data on my macbook desktop (and reading secret keys of said wallets). How have I narrowed it down to this as the attack vector? The day before the hack, the only thing thing I did was install 2 wallet extensions on my Chrome browser. No, these were not fraudulent extensions with whom I got phished, but these were the original proper extensions I have verified. And I did not fund these 2 new wallets, it is my other unrelated wallets that got hacked (Exodus, Metamask) and I believe it is because there is likely a way a Chrome extension and therefore developer or other affiliated person can access personal data. The data in question was my secret keys stored in a text file on my Mac desktop. This has been here for months and there has not been any issue prior to this, and the fact that this happened the day after I installed 2 new extensions points to this hypothesis. No, I was never phished nor entered my secret keys online ever in any way- I have never done this and would never do this. No, this was not due to a rogue smart contract that zapped my wallet (because that would not explain how more than 1 wallet got hacked) and no, it was not due to some keylogger or other malware (have done many scans from several software, all negative). So my question: Either GeroWallet or Phantom Wallet apps have accessed data on my mac desktop in some way. I know chrome extensions have certain permissions granted I could see in developer mode under Extensions> inspect background page > Application. Frames. And I also know that the below also exist but were not granted to these extensions in question. desktopCapture 0Gives your extension access to the chrome.desktopCapture API. documentScan -Gives your extension access to the chrome.documentScan API. fileBrowserHandler - gives your extension access to the chrome.fileBrowserHandler API. fileSystemProvider - Gives your extension access to the chrome.fileSystemProvider API. system.display - Gives your extension access to the chrome.system.display API. system.storage - Gives your extension access to the chrome.system.storage API. My question is- do you know of any way I can find a log of the extension in question accessing data on my desktop to have proof this happened as I suspect? How can I verify if this has happened maybe through some logs Chrome stores, identify when it happened via any logs Chrome would store of said access, and keep said proof? Thank you for your help! I can share proof of hack/addresses of the crypto/txn hashes etc but it is prob unnecessary for this thread. Thanks Bakul [link] [comments]
Where can I get landing page widgets to add to a GitHub site? Posted: 08 Sep 2021 03:58 PM PDT I would like to make a marketing website with a few landing pages that have modern design and functionality, but I don't want to spend money every month on a website from, for example, Wix or Webbly. I'd like to make it myself, but not have to start from scratch, and host it as a GitHub site for free. Is there a website that lists common components one could use on their website? I'm well versed in JavaScript, Typescript, CSS, C#, and others. [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Sep 2021 11:37 AM PDT Hey everyone, I'm currently working on my first project where I have the intention of actually launching (really this time, I swear!). However, my UI skills are not the best to say the least. I can implement a design I'm given perfectly fine, but I can't come up with my own design, at least none that I'd dare to publish. I'm a really happy tailwindCSS user, so its logical that I stumbled across tailwindUI after doing some research into UI kits. From what I can see without purchasing the kit, it looks extremely appealing and I'm really considering purchasing. However, the price for the whole kit (I'd need marketing and application pages for my project) are kind of prohibitive to me as a student (its almost 300€ including VAT). So I just wanted to ask: does anybody here have experience with tailwindUI? Do you consider it worth the price or would you go down a different route? I appreciate your feedback! Is that an easy way to apply API interaction in WordPress or Wix? Posted: 08 Sep 2021 11:33 AM PDT Hi guys, I'm really newbie when it comes to programming and web development. I would like to know if is that and easy way (not high level programming) to apply an API interaction in my website, like booking flights prices and schedule, or sports live scores and schedule too. Do you think it is possible for me to do it, or only a professional in web dev? Thanks in advance! :) PS: I know some API can be expensive. [link] [comments]

Needing help getting dynamic buttons on page load. Posted: 08 Sep 2021 01:58 PM PDT Hi everybody o/ just as the title says. I did 3 yrs in school for my a.s. in development, and a yr and a half of job searching to get a shot at my first front end gig. Personally i feel im average/soso at development, and i say that because idk anyone else that does it. So my comparisons are from what i see here and there and online. I have a portfolio site thats up, ill share if anybody is interested. I finally got my first dev job working for a small local company of 11 people for the last almost 5 months, building essentially a coupon redemption app. This app is up on their server, so its able to be visited, but no personal info is sent anywhere. You cant sign up sign in redeem anything, yet. Right now its basically a mock up. Everything thats there i did, i put together. This is where idk if i would be able to get some help. I can drop the link for all to see, but the code itself is on my pc and their server, and its a few files so idk how i could share. https://nate.vjr.io/Home-v3.0/index.html Context: Basically i have dynamic coupons that have heart shaped favorite buttons. You can click these buttons and they change color and add each coupon to a favorites group that saves to local storage. Current collection, added and removed all log to console for now and populate the favorites page that can be seen via the notification or clicking the little user icon (how they want it for now) in the coupon category selection. Research: Google obviously, posted to r/webdev r/webdesign r/Frontend. Stack Overflow for a similar issue by someone else, their fix was not mine. Setting buttons globally with querySelectorAll then re-declaring in my init function, log to console still returns empty list. Maps, for, and for each loops all return empty lists. Problem: My problem is getting the buttons of the coupons that are in local storage to be colored on page load. They return an empty node list on load, yet are there on load. If anybody could give me some pointers or help it would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
