I'm building a project for a company and the client team is actively participating in our group on trello giving feedback daily in a matter of minutes... It seems like a dream, I've never been so productive.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 04:09 PM PDT

Strange but it's my reality. I'm involved in some projects and all of them take a long time to give feedback on what needs to be done or approve something, both with the client and others involved. But this client is different... The main responsible are two people who are actively answering my questions on Trello, giving their opinions, liking the result and excited about the proposal. I'm setting up the project scope and organizing the ideas, starting some wireframes and I just have to say one thing: I've never been so motivated to work in my life. In 1 week we were able to reach a more advanced stage than some projects that last 2 months...

I wish you all the same, it's great to work as a united team.

What is the average workflow of a Front-End Web Developer within a company?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 05:10 AM PDT

I have no previous work experience in web development field so I am curious what the average workflow is of the Junior Front-End developer?

Is he responsible of creating a wireframe of the website and then starts developing it from scratch?

Or does he receive a template and changes it to the desired website?

What are the most common problems that occur from time to time?

How to keep the learning curve from declining?

    Thanks in advance!

What do you do to decrease cognitive load?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:55 AM PDT

Cognitive load: "the used amount of working memory resources". In lay terms, reducing it means freeing up mental space, allowing you to focus more on the task at hand.

For example, sorting your CSS properties alphabetically, or having a common variable naming convention. General time savers could also apply, as they reduce the number of things you need to think about.

Getting a job offer. Need help with salary.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 04:26 AM PDT

Hey! I just got an update on an offer I've had a couple of weeks ago. They said they wanted me to think of a fair salary and we'll discuss that on the next meeting.

Thing is, this is my first job, I have no idea how much I should get paid. The other thing is that I'm currently doing an internship there right now. They said they liked how I've been working and how I interact with the team.

YES. I googled it. Based on that I should be making 50-55k CAD.

Here's a little bit of background:

    • 2/3 years of python

    • 1.5 year of JS/HTML/CSS - React

    • 1 year of ReactNative

Edit: More on my experience on the github page

I've been building apps for a bit without ever actually finishing one. I've also been tutoring both python and React/RN to teens.

    I have a basic github page : Code-Matter's GitHub

Best Automation Tools for Optimizing CSS, JS, and Images in 2021?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:51 PM PDT

I am looking to automate these tasks:

    1. Compiling SCSS
    2. Prefixing and minifying CSS / JS files
    3. Inlining critical CSS into the HTML file
    4. Automatic image optimization / compression for all the images in my project (JPGs, PNGs, and SVGs)

I am deciding between using NPM scripts or webpack, because I've read that people are bashing Gulp and other Task Runners because they add unnecessary dependency to the project.

What's your take on this, and how do you approach this task?

Building my first site: Confused about the workflow?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 01:30 PM PDT

Hey everyone, this may be the wrong place to ask this question but I am trying to build out a site for my band. I have my own hosting platform through Namecheap and have all my certificates in place so that's all handled. Now on to the hard part.

I have no experience in CSS, or Javascript (just basic HTML & Python) but I am very comfortable with Design software like Photoshop & Illustrator. I am not looking for a drag and drop per se but more of the right workflow to be able to build out site pages in photoshop or similar software then implement that design to my site (I honestly don't even know the tutorials to google)?

I hope that makes sense, any programs or advice would be helpful, was looking at XD but I'm confused as it seems it's for prototyping, and Dreamweaver is for coding a site more if I'm not mistaken?

    Thanks!

Where can I store data for hobby projects?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:35 PM PDT

Hi. I am new to web development, but looking for some free cloud storage service to read data from. It's about 2-3 gigs of csv files and would like to read the data with Python.

I get the impression most use AWS for storage but it doesn't seem to be free. I don't know if something like google drive would be good or if there is a better suggestion with good api for pulling data.

    Thank you for your help.

WebLink to QR Code idea help? Lol

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:04 PM PDT

    Hello!

I am trying to understand from a more technical perspective what is needed for an idea I have with a personal project and wondered if anyone could help.

I want to grab a line of text from one website that is regularly updated, and have that line of text ultimately end up accessed through a dynamic QR code. For example, the line of text is an email address that is regularly updated on a given website page, among other details, I want to grab that email address somehow and put it in the right context so that the dynamic QR code is also automatically linking the update.

I am assuming I would need to have that line of text displayed on its own webpage that I host?

As you can see I have very little technical understanding of things 🤣 but I was looking for some basic knowledge assistance so I can pursue the right channels with little overheads.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm not even sure if this would be the right sub for this lol!

What are some examples of junior back-end developers' daily tasks in decent company?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2021 09:16 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well!

I'm honestly lacking confidence in myself and abilities and/or overestimating the expectations of the job market. I'm graduating this month and will try to apply for a junior back-end position.

TL;DR: What are some examples of the daily tasks that junior NodeJs back-end developers work on? and how is their scope/complexity compared to (for example) an Ask.fm clone project? I kind of feel like they do rocket science in these companies and that I'm not going to be competent.

I'm asking only because there is barely anyone tackling this topic online. Thanks in advance!

Just a simple one page website. Does anyone have any no code/low code tool recommendation? Or any themes?
