Universities that offer a master’s in comp sci or software eng without a bachelor’s in these areas Posted: 22 Aug 2020 01:12 PM PDT I'm currently in my undergrad for geomatics engineering and I'd really like to do a master's degree in software engineering or computer science. My school (University of Calgary) actually offers this sort of program to non-software majors, but I have trouble finding other Canadian universities that don't require you to have a bachelor's in something equivalent to software/electrical engineering or comp sci to join such a program, and I'd prefer to go to a different school for my masters. Do you guys have any suggestions? I prefer if it's within Canada but any international suggestions are also accepted! (if it helps, we learn about programming in other languages and work with programs that handle large databases of geographical data in my degree :)) [link] [comments] |
Will not getting a return offer after an internship affect my chances with other companies? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 06:15 AM PDT I recently finished an internship for a major bank and did not get a return offer. I was told the reason was that I was a bit idle in the first couple of weeks. I definitely improved after I got my feedback session, but my supervisors were no longer around (either on holiday or busy with other projects) and the internship was shortened, so they did not get to see my improvement in the meetings and in terms of project work. Personally, I am OK with not getting the offer there. However, I am worried about whether this will impact my future employment. Will employers be suspicious when they see that I did an internship and did not return there? Will they ask questions and immediately turn me down when they find out I got rejected? For context, I did my internship for a big bank. I am graduating with a Masters in CS next year. My original plan was to apply for a PhD after I graduate since I am interested in research, though my entire family got laid off during the pandemic, so I will probably postpone the PhD if I get a good job offer. I have been working 3 jobs at the same time to support them. I don't know what things are gonna be like next year, but I expect I will need a well-paid position to keep supporting them. I am generally not super interested in the banking industry, but I would like to have that as an option. I'd really appreciate some insight from people who have been in a similar situation or are familiar with this kind of thing. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
