LPT: Use Google Scholar to get a paper from ACM DL if you do not have ACM membership

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 02:06 PM PDT

If you wanted to read a paper from the ACM digital library but don't have an ACM membership, just go to https://scholar.google.com/, type in the paper name and select the link on right hand side of the desired result (should appear as "[PDF] acm.org".
Haven't checked if it works for other sites like IEEE.

I want to watch a website for changes

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 05:37 PM PDT

Hi, so my university recently has opened up the gym and requires a form to be filled for making an appointment. But I always forget and I login even 5 minutes after the registration time opens, all the spots are full. I thought I could make this into a little CS project and was hoping for pointers.

I was thinking some sort of app or extension that watches a website for changes and then executes actions and registers me for an open slot as soon as it open. If you guys have or know any resources for me to read up on would be greatly appreciated.

    Have a great day :D

    Quantum Experiments Workshop

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 04:03 PM PDT

Hi everyone! I've recently stumbled upon this youth led initiative called, Q-munity! They seem really legit and they seem to be hosting a new workshop called Quantum Experiments, which will be co-hosted by Eammonn Darcy. If you didn't know him, he is the founder and operator of QUECWA, which is based in West Australia. It seems really interesting since Mr. Darcy will begin going over the Quantum Superposition and conducting two experiments (The Double Slit and the Delayed Choice Quantum Eraser) to illustrate the infatuating properties of Quantum Superposition. And the best part is, it's completely free. Let me know what you guys think and dm me if you plan on attending!

Here is the link if anyone is interested in signing up: https://www.qmunity.tech/event-details/quantum-experiments-3

A question about saving elements in unknown size 2d array and determine if it using Row-Major or Column-Major

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 02:21 PM PDT

I saw a question which asks to determine how elements are stored in a 2d array if A[0,1] sores in hex7A00 and a[1,1] stores in hex7A10. it has two choices: Row-Major and Column-Major and the answer is row Major but i couldn't figure out how we can determine which method are used when we have no information about upper-bounds. i know if it was column major a[1,1] is successor of a[0,1] and 7A10 is 2 byte bigger than 7A00 and i guessed maybe in default we should assume every element allocate 1Byte , but in another hand i always assume an element store in 2Byte or 1Word i really confused and thinks this question has not enough information so i decided to share it with you to know your opinion.

Data Structures and Algorithms Self-Study Advice/Materials

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 10:29 AM PDT

As a Mechanical Engineer with more free time than usual, I want to expand my programming abilities as I really enjoy computer science. I am comfortable with multiple languages, but I have never formally taken a Data Structures or Algorithms class. If anyone has advice or materials for learning the basics of these subjects I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
