This pack could be great but it's paid. Does anybody know where could a good free set of assets like this be found?

Create a Game For Fun Challenge!

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 12:13 PM PDT

Do you have spare time on your hands because of corona? Why not make a game for fun? On your own, or with a team that you make. You can make your game as serious or as wacky as you want. You can create a RPG with aliens. A FPS with characters from the Office as character classes. An open world survival set in an alternate reality. A simple game. A horror game. Anything! Get creative, and have fun! :) Post your finished project here on this discord:

    https://discord.gg/NjFfVTz

NOTE: I am not looking for people to work for me. I have done that for past projects, but not for this one. For this project, I just want you to be creative and have fun :)

End date for this project is May 4th.

What is cheaper: a three sided tube with single sided material, or two crossed planes with two sided material?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 11:58 AM PDT

I saw that the trees and bushes in kingdom come deliverance use the crossed planes technique quite often, so I wonder if it's more efficient. I don't see why, since 2 planes = 8 verts, while it's 6 for a three sided tube. Also you get backface culling and save a two sided material. I really don't see a reason for doing it. It's even more of a hastle as you need to do it either manually or make some speedtree gymnastics. Can anyone enlighten me?

The reason why you make games

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 11:29 AM PDT

    Hey everybody!

I'm a total newbie to making games, but I recently started to learn the ropes. But now I'm searching for some input of people who are more experienced, or are also as fresh as I am. I just have one simple question:

Why do you, yes you, make games?

I would love to hear from you guys.

    stay safe

Approaching a publisher as a solo developer? (Legal/Company requirements)

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 05:28 AM PDT

After work I've been creating a game prototype that's finally pretty bug free and contains all the features of the final game, sans art.

I work as a teacher (with a wedding coming up...maybe) and that isn't going to finance the rest of this thing so I would like to find a source of funding.

Do I need to be an incorporated company before I do that? I know it will all be NDAs and contracts but it's just me with no legal entity behind me.

I'd love to hear from other game devs who have been through this.

    Sharing user-generated levels

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 11:14 AM PDT

I am making a game, and I am working on a level editor. The levels are saved in json format, and will be encoded to base64 (long string without weird characters) when saved, and be decoded from base64 when loaded.

I will need a way for the players to share their levels, and I was thinking about a discord server or maybe even a subreddit, where players can post their level string so someone else can copy it and paste it to their game. A web server with a database is and whatever a bit too complicated and expensive, as I am 14 years old and don't have any kind of side job. However, this would be the easiest for the players, because then I could make some kind of level menu in the game where you can download someone else's levels and play them right away. Then I could also have a vote system and that kind of stuff.

If you have any suggestions for ways players can share their self-made levels, please share it in a comment. It will be much appreciated.

    Develop Online Multiplayer Card Games

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 11:11 AM PDT

To overcome boredom during COVID-19 lock down, I want to develop a card game (Dahla Pakad aka Mindi) for playing with friends in real time. Although same game is available but there are few rules which needs to be changed. For example, in current games, single hand is used i.e. Player will win in single round but I want it double handed i.e player has to win two consecutive hand in order to win round. Where should I start? I don't have much knowledge about it. Step by step procedure will be very helpful Thanks a lot

best way to impliment multiplayer in unity?

What free engine would you reccomend to make a corpse party type game?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 10:38 AM PDT

I'm a beginner with very little experience in coding. I want to get started on a horror game, similar to corpse party. But I dont know which free engine is the best for it.

Right now I'm considering Godot or Unity. But I'm sure there are better alternatives out there for this genre.

    Please help T-T

    Thank you :D

Name of Witcher 3 core loop?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 10:16 AM PDT

Hello r/gamedev, is there a succinct name for the Witcher 3 core loop? I am referring to get a quest, investigate, prepare for a fight, possibly fight a monster (or not), collect reward.

    Thanks!
