My AI is so bright, I gotta wear shades.

I've built a pair of AI-enabled glasses that allow you to interact with objects in the real world just by gesturing to them. For example, if you wave at the lamp you're looking at, it will turn on. Or, if you wave at your smart speaker, it will play music. It is extensible and can be adapted to control any number of objects, with full details on my GitHub page. The entire BOM is under $150 making it very accessible.

I can also envision many additional applications of the technology, such as assistive applications for those with a disability, or fast charting/order entry for medical practitioners to name a few.

    See it in action:

Using artificial intelligence, scientists created an easy-to-use tool to detect banana diseases and pests. With an average 90 percent success rate in detecting a pest or a disease, the tool can help farmers avoid millions of dollars in losses.

    Classic Papers in Computer Science

    Posted: 13 Aug 2019 11:04 AM PDT

Claude Shannon's seminal work, "A Mathematical Theory of Communication" is available in full, presumably legally, on Harvard's website:

    http://math.harvard.edu/~ctm/home/text/others/shannon/entropy/entropy.pdf

It's a high quality scan, and the paper is surprisingly easy to read and follow. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the history of computer science, and information theory in particular.

Turing's PhD thesis is available on Harvard's website, though the scan is rather low quality, making it more of a historical artifact than an academic resource. Nonetheless, it's quite cool, as his original hand-marked notes are all over the paper:

Gaining a realistic perspective on AI?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2019 05:40 PM PDT

Hi, I'm not sure this is the right subreddit but I honestly don't see a better alternative. I'm going to get a psychologists help on this but their knowledge is limited in the sense that they are *not* experts in computer science, which is why I'm posting here.

I have for the last couple of months been obsessively concerned about the existential risks of AI, AGI and ASI. How do gain a realistic, healthy and constructive perspective on AI(etc) so that I can stop spending my waking time worried about AI. What are some **credible** sources where I can find information, stuff that is not just "doom and gloom".

Convert State transition table to K-map

    Posted: 13 Aug 2019 10:34 AM PDT

Hello, I have an assignment due in tomorrow. I have done almost all of it however I am stuck on one step of a task. The task is to design a synchronous binary counter which has a count sequence given to me. Then turn it into a circuit. I have created the state transition table however i am stuck on the part where you convert the J and K values into K maps. If someone helps me with this part I can use the formulae to create the final circuit within digital works. I have watched dozens of YouTube videos but i still cannot grasp karnaugh maps. Can somebody please help me pass this step!

Here is a screenshot of my state table

I was thinking of building a react web app, swift's perfect or php laravel which will be better for server side scripting?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2019 12:51 PM PDT

I have seen numerous benchmarks stating huge performance benefits for swift's perfect, is there any downside/cons for it. Or php has somethings better to offer?

    Thank you for your answers.
