Posted: 02 Jul 2019 05:20 PM PDT I'm an undergraduate computer science + math major, and recently picked up Neil Immerman's book "Descriptive Complexity" from my school's library. It seems really interesting based on the half of the book I've read so far, but, before finding this, I'd never heard of it! I know this is a vague question, but does anyone here have any experience in this field or interesting thoughts about it? Any cool open problems? Cool results? I want to learn a lot about it and, possibly, maybe try to write a paper on it for fun! [link] [comments] |

Programming lessons, competitions and intensive guidance Posted: 03 Jul 2019 03:26 AM PDT Hi, if you're interested in long-term mentoring, feedback on code, exercises requests, helping others, making fun & coding together, join us :D We are very pleased to welcome you in our discord. We cover all popular languages and we also encourage possible mentors to join. We have noticed that quite a few who joined did not accept the rules at first to gain access to the discord channels. What does it mean to have "Python already installed"? Posted: 02 Jul 2019 07:57 PM PDT In Ubuntu, Python is already installed. Are they referring to the interpreter (which is a program)? sorry for the noob question. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jul 2019 03:31 PM PDT Hi there, I developed and implemented a method with which you can fuzzy search arbitrary data with log(n) time complexity and I wonder if it is something I can make any money out of. Would you say something like that is of value and if so how would I find and approach potential buyers? Thank you very much for your thoughts. [link] [comments] |
Bitwise XOR checksums for TCP/IP Control (general question, not programming help) Posted: 02 Jul 2019 09:30 AM PDT I've made programs for several devices made by several companies, and I've noticed that some API's just use a basic additive checksum at the tail of messages, but some require the use of a bitwise XOR in their checksum. Is this normal procedure for such API's? Is there some benefit to using it over basic addition? I'm completely uninitiated (self-taught) when it comes to this kind of stuff so I'm not exactly sure what XOR is doing under the hood. [link] [comments] |
