How to turn a project idea into a research opportunity Posted: 08 Jun 2019 02:18 PM PDT Hey everyone, I am currently a junior in computer science and I'm kinda stressing out because I spent my first 3 years in college thinking I don't want to do a masters and now I did a complete 180 and think after a couple years in industry I would want to do one. I have great grades, I am good at standardized testing so not worried about the GRE, but I have 0 research experience, and I'm kind of freaking out. I reached out to some professors and one responded and said that he doesn't have any current research projects but he would be happy to "mentor me on any projects I find interesting". This professor is extremely kind, and is a genius in computer vision, so I want to pitch a project idea for a rubiks cube solving app that uses computer vision to figure out what the cube looks like and basically solves it for them. (I don't really know computer vision but I'm sure with his guidance I can figure out how to do something along these lines). But my question is, how can I propose a project idea, and somewhat turn it into a research project, like with this project, or anything similar how do you take a project and turn it into research. I know this may be a silly question, but I am really stressing that my lack of research will screw me over, and now the pressure is on. Thanks for all your help :) [link] [comments] |
