X Framework doesn't make you a better/worse developer Posted: 06 Jun 2019 02:49 PM PDT In my limited 3-4 years experience in development I have seen lots of things.
But what else have I seen?
There's only one common thing between all of these examples I've listed. The developer/engineer/programmer. It's time to stop shaming others for using something you aren't familiar with or have not seen implemented in a good way. The only thing wrong is you for being an ass. Instead of being asses, let's create a more inclusive and inviting environment that encourages our fellow developers to use best practices for whatever technology they're using. In person you'd probably tell your fellow developer that you think that they should do something different rather than straight up saying they suck ass for what they're using... Posted: 06 Jun 2019 09:13 AM PDT I'm just wondering what the best resources are and maybe if there are some examples that I'm missing around the web on how to exactly do this? My biggest need is to be able to download files locally to the Oculus from a site to be viewed offline. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Question about WEBPACK watch function Posted: 06 Jun 2019 02:45 PM PDT Hey, I have a simple question. Can webpack track new files. For example when I compile a .scss file into .css using webpack loaders. I don't think webpack can detect during the watch period , when I create a new .scss file so it can compile it into a .css file. You should restart webpack whenever you create a new file. If someone knows how to solve this problem help a follow developer and thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Best path for learning web components Posted: 06 Jun 2019 12:26 PM PDT Hi, I am a UX designer with 6+ years of experience and with basic knowledge about HTML, CSS & JS. Also, I know some python and I can create a simple website with Django framework. This is enough knowledge to work with my team with confidence and understanding of the process. Recently we've decided in our company (huge, international company) that for a specific part of the business we want to try implementing a design system to cut cost and dev time. Basically, we want to have web components for the most important parts of the Interface to be able to reuse it. Of course, the most important part will be to come up with a process of component management between the projects (updating, refactoring etc) I want to learn more about creating web components and I would appreciate any good resources. I won't develop these components by myself, but I need to understand the whole idea etc. Also, any good tools for component management are appreciated [link] [comments]
CSS learning: why overflow: hidden; in navigation bar? Posted: 06 Jun 2019 12:15 PM PDT Hello! I'm learning CSS and I have a question about something that is not clear to me. I'm learning to create navigation bars with dropdowns menus and I'm looking on W3schools, but something in this example it's not clear. In the CSS for ul there is "overflow: hidden;" and I don't understand what its purpose is.I've seen that without it the navbar background becomes white, but I can't understand why.Can you help me? Posted: 06 Jun 2019 01:42 PM PDT Hi, So I'm planning to start learning front-end (HTML,CSS,JS) and I'm looking for courses to follow. I have heard of colt steele's course but I have heard it doesn't cover everything in-depth and is some-what out dated. any recommendations would be great [link] [comments]
Currently learning JavaScript/CSS/HTML but want to start a blog right away Posted: 06 Jun 2019 06:50 AM PDT Basically I am looking for a template tool such as WordPress that I can start a blog on relatively easy and then edit later with JS/CSS/HTML. I'm most interested in a rapid yet effective build (Just a nice blog). An awesome bonus would be something that can expand my coding skills later. I have never used WordPress, Wix or anything like that so I apologize if this a naive question. I have been exposed to a little bit of Bootstrap, and it seems like a beginner could build a blog site relatively easy with it, so I'm considering that as well. Any suggestions? Posted: 06 Jun 2019 03:49 AM PDT I'm kinda new to building websites (about 5 months) and I've used APIs from different sites to add some functionality purposes but was wondering if there were Api themes that I could use to create my own web portfolio because building it from scratch would be a pain during finals week, but I need to get it going very soon. I have my own site reserved through my University but its basically a blank piece of paper with my name on it. How would I go about doing something like this? Would I get a word press theme I like and download the file? Find a github with web portfolio themes? I've tried googling but I don't find much or they're paid. [link] [comments]
GIT not being installed on administrator account Posted: 06 Jun 2019 03:42 PM PDT Windows 10. Go to install GIT. Command prompt says error, you need to be administrator to install GIT. So I log in as admin, download git. Switch back to my normal user account, it works, Great... Fast forward, working with ionic and it cannot be installed outside of admin account, ok fine, lets just do our work with admin- GREAT. So now I want to push it up to a repo, and my admin says 'git is not recognized as a command blah blha lbah' Why is this happening?! I really like Microsoft products for dev work, but I HATE this admin shit. [link] [comments]
Does a provident institution need to protect its content from being copied? Posted: 06 Jun 2019 05:45 AM PDT I am a trainee at a provident institution which needs to revamp their website. I am being asked to gather intel in order to benchmark their website. I want to know if it is judicious to protect the website from being copied elswhere. And if that's the case, what kind of tool need to be used. sorry, english is not my first language. [link] [comments]
Quick question about Nginx Reverse Proxy and URL duplication Posted: 06 Jun 2019 03:05 PM PDT I have two Node applications on my local machine, one running on port 8080 and another running on port 3000. I plan to deploy them both to an Nginx server, and configure Nginx so that the path "/" redirects to the app running on port 8080, and the path "/api" redirects to the port 3000. If my application running on port 3000 is already configured to serve responses to requests made to /api/v1/products, is Nginx going to make the path turn into /api/api/v1/products? I would definitely not like this to happen. Any help is appreciated! [link] [comments]
Advice: Creating a members area for access to video on Wordpress Posted: 06 Jun 2019 03:04 PM PDT I have a client that has informed me that he will eventually wish to setup a section on his site that will be exclusive to subscription paying members. The section will give access to certain video footage that the business will produce. What is the best way to go about this? I don't overly fancy building something in PHP for this as I dont think I have the know how. I was thinking of maybe having another server setup with a subdomain of members.domain which would require a login and having another wordpress install with loads of video material. This way members could come and go as they please. I could host the video on premium vimeo. Anyone got any ideas? [link] [comments]
Any idea why my SQL "ALTER TABLE ADD" isn't working in PHP 7? Posted: 06 Jun 2019 02:18 PM PDT It's not adding a column with the title $variableName ("cancer type" is what we've been using for $variableName). [link] [comments]
Is it possible to hide vendor prefixes in Chrome when inspecting element? Posted: 06 Jun 2019 02:15 PM PDT It is a mess everytime and tiredsome to uncheck. It would be great if we can hide that or uncheck all prefixes as one property. [link] [comments]
Personal Website development without a JS framework/library Posted: 06 Jun 2019 02:09 PM PDT I've built a personal website using basic HTML, CSS and a little bit of bootstrap. The contact me form uses some Vue, but after trying to build the portfolio page with React I decided my JS skills aren't there. (I'm mainly a python developer and have plenty of projects that I made from scratch, just making a website to get myself out there) What's the best way to make my website look better/more responsive without using Angular or React? Maybe Sassy CSS? TIA [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jun 2019 07:56 AM PDT I've been away from development for over a decade. So if Docker is the right choice to setup a dev environment on my Linux desktop, here are some questions. 1) I want to keep project and database files in the host, using mount or sync to container with file changes support. Is it slow? 2) I have tons of apps and sites, can I make 2 generic Dockerfiles like one for LEMP+JS stuff and other for Python+different database? I would setup multiple sites/apps in my nginx file. Basically I want to use Docker for development only, like a VM with shared folders. 3) If I only use the https://hub.docker.com images tagged as "Official Images Published by Docker" I won't have to worry or manually update anything, right? Are "Verified Publisher" also good enough? I'm really worried about privilege escalation or my system getting compromised. I heard it doesn't use unprivileged user namespaces. What's your experience using Docker for development? I know many sysadmins hate it but I'm just going to use it for my local setup, not in production. Thanks. [link] [comments]
How can I stop node process in the background? Posted: 06 Jun 2019 01:07 PM PDT I'm hosting a website on my school server (which uses linux), and I have ssh access to it. I started the website on port 3000 using the "npm start" command and put it in the background. But now I want to restart the process on the server so I can launch the updated version of my website. How can I access the node process in order to restart or stop it without the root access? [link] [comments]
