Did you notice that tags lost their effect on steam? Posted: 09 Oct 2018 12:54 AM PDT Hi Guys, So we ran into a problem. Some days ago we edited our tags on our steam game so it would fit similar games better. We went from 1 visitor a day to 127 visitors in just two days, from steams recommended section. But then something changed. It seems like the recommended tab under each game just shows popular games now. Rocket League, CS GO etc. and our visitor went down to 30 something. It was a lot more accurate before, look at stick fight for example https://store.steampowered.com/recommended/morelike/app/674940/ It doesn't seem to have any impact anymore. Did anybody notice this as well? [link] [comments] |

What's the best way to ask for help? Posted: 09 Oct 2018 09:45 AM PDT What should I prepare to show people what I'm trying to do for my game so I can convey to them what I'm struggling with. I'm working on some puzzle, dungeon crawler and action RPG games with the intent of learning how they work so I can make games with combined elements. However I struggle with code but I can never convey what specifically I'm struggling with since I don't know code well enough. My current strategy is to just draw concepts of what I want the game to look like but that ended with one person condescendingly telling me there's a tutorial for drop down menus on Unity's website which at the time I thought would include what I was struggling with but unfortunately didn't. Looking for proper constructive criticism for your games? Posted: 09 Oct 2018 07:56 AM PDT I want to try starting a youtube series where I play any and all games that people send to me and give my thoughts on everything from the perspective of another game developer, but with a humorous twist to make these videos appeal to more than just the people who make games. Some of my best ideas for my games haven't been my own, they've been the ideas of others that have been suggested to me for my games, always from other game developers who try my games. Even if not ideas, just small ways that could greatly improve the way your game plays, looks, and feels. ----------- So if you have a game you want me to "playtest" for this video series, please leave a link to it down below, or even DM me a build over reddit if you want it to remain confidential. Please let me know how you want me to credit your game and if you want a link included in the description or not :) [link] [comments] |

Proper way to animate a car for Unity in Blender? Posted: 09 Oct 2018 10:01 AM PDT Hello, sorry if this isn't the right sub to post, I am trying to animate a car for a Unity game and I was wondering what the best way to go about it would be? Do I animate in Blender and then import animation actions in Unity or does the whole thing have to happen in Unity? Also would there be any video tutorials for rigging the then animating on either method? I couldn't find anything useful Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Oct 2018 09:57 AM PDT I am currently tinkering with SFML and find my self with a sort of unorganized chaotic structure of classes with wierd crossinclusions. Any tip on how to get a good organized structure? [link] [comments] |

Looking for small games to stream! Posted: 09 Oct 2018 09:38 AM PDT Hey hey, I'm a fairly new streamer on twitch and I'm looking for game devs that would be interested in partnering with me. Im very flexible and willing to pay. Pm me if interested :) EDIT: I have around 5-7 viewers per stream and I am affiliated with twitch, I stream almost every-night. [link] [comments] |
Best practices for the player interacting with objects? Posted: 09 Oct 2018 09:15 AM PDT I haven't seen this talked about before. I'm currently in the middle of making a game that will have lots of way for the player to interact with the world. Picking up loot, talking to people, pulling levers, opening doors, inspecting boxes, etc. It's also a top down in a 3d world. What's the best way to communicate to the player what they can interact with and what they can't? I want to avoid having the player feel like they have to approach everything and either use the "interact" button, or look for a prompt. [link] [comments] |

Audiogame Jam 3 - A charity game jam from October 12th - 21st Posted: 09 Oct 2018 08:27 AM PDT Hello everyone! I'm here to let you all know that Audiogame Jam is back for it's third year this October 12th - 21st! About Audiogame Jam 3 Audiogame Jam is a game jam inviting game developers to make and submit a game prototype that can be played without sight. In keeping with the game jam format the games should be created during the jam period and submitted before it ends. The event is run to raise awareness of accessibility barriers in games faced by the blind and VI community, to encourage game developers to consider accessibility issues in their development process, and to raise money for the UK-based sight loss charity The Royal National Institute of Blind People. How can I get involved? The Audiogame Jam 3 game jam page is hosted by the indie game development platform GameJolt. Anyone with a GameJolt account can submit a game to Audiogame Jam 3 by uploading a game to their GameJolt page with #AudiogameJame3 somewhere in the game's description. For blind and visually impaired people without game or software development skills there are opportunities to work with developers as a game tester or design consultant. This really helps ensure the final submission is fully accessible to its intended audience. It is an important role as the majority of participants are sighted and unlikely to have any experience of developing for an audience of blind gamers. Sharing your experience and insight can make a huge difference. Where can I find out more? For more information on Audiogame Jam 3 please visit the jam's GameJolt page. Information on previous Audiogame Jams please visit AudiogameJam.org. One of the main goals of the event is to raise money for RNIB. Donations can be made easily and securely through the Audiogame Jam JustGiving page. Follow Audiogame Jam on Twitter at @MakeAudiogames. Audiogame Jam 3 discussion on Discord. Audiogame Jam 3 team building tools on Crowdforge. I hope this covers everything. If anyone here has any questions then please feel free to ask. (edits: adding a few links to the bottom of the post.)
