Not sure what to take: Program Analysis vs HCI Posted: 26 Aug 2018 10:54 AM PDT Hey guys, I'm currently going into my junior year in CS. I just wanted to gather some input on what course I should take to become a better programmer/software engineer. I have the option of doing either HCI (human computer interaction) or a course on Program Analysis. The HCI is almost entirely a large group-project where you work with some sort of human-computer interface. Essentially, the main themes for this course are how humans with physical and information environments, and how to design software with human's information needs and their cognitive capacities in mind. The issue I have with this is that I'm also taking another project based course, and Operating Systems, so I'm not sure if I could handle multiple projects in one term. The program analysis course sounds cool (and theres no project) but I'm a bit intimidated of it since its a senior level. The course is supposed to give us an overview of the program analyses that work and those that do not work in practice and how to design program analyses for modern software systems (e.g., Android). Stuff like intermediate representations, interprocedural and intra-procedural analysis techniques, call graphs, pointer analysis, and analysis frameworks will be taught (though I'm not sure what any of that means). if you have done one of these courses (or both), did they help you in the workforce at all? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Aug 2018 10:26 PM PDT hi ! i am an electrical engineer and wanted to get in the field of data science & machine learning. so i was thinking about pursuing MS CS. but the problem is that it isnt easy to switch the field and i need to get some prior knowledge of basic fundamentals of CS as foundation. I researched for a while and found a thing called CS minor. it would help me to get into a uni for MS. my question now is - is there any online programs(MOOC) that would give me a certification of CS minor so that i can apply for MS CS once it gets completed. Or is there any other way for me to do CS minor through an online medium (maybe from a university that provides online CS minor) ? . Please help me on this. thanks ! [link] [comments] |
