Best Pathway for becoming a Data Scientist? Posted: 28 Jul 2018 04:43 AM PDT Hello everyone, I am currently applying to Georgia Tech for Spring 2019 transfer. In my free time I really enjoy learning data science, especially machine learning through R and python. I am pretty far into the math major curriculum but not looking to limit my job opportunities by graduating from a lower tier university. Currently I am choosing between Math(Prob and Stats focus) with a minor in data analytics or a Comp Sci major with a math minor. Which would be best for employment as a data scientist? Thank you for your time! [link] [comments] |
Good resources for learning testing Posted: 27 Jul 2018 08:28 PM PDT Hi, I've always struggled with writing tests (unit and component tests, primarily). I was wondering if any of you have strategies for systematically writing your tests. Besides hearing about personal experiences, I'm also willing to do some reading up on the topic, if you have recommendations. I've already read the chapter in code complete 2, but not much else. I want to start coding but have absolutely no idea where to start. Posted: 27 Jul 2018 05:49 PM PDT What language is the easiest to start? I know I can learn the others later I just have absolutely no idea where to start. I would appreciate all the help I can get to point me in the right direction. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Switching from Chemistry to CS in 3rd year? Posted: 27 Jul 2018 12:19 PM PDT upcoming third year chemistry student who is about to take organic chemistry...gen chemistry was a struggle and didn't enjoy it that much but i have thoughts about CS? I plan on seeing how organic goes, and if that's also a struggle i plan on making the switch to cs. I figured it'll probably take me an extra year of undergrad, but probably worth it if i don't have to go to grad school to make money. I also have no prior knowledge of CS Any advice would be appreciated [link] [comments] |
Any successfully created operating systems in recent years? Posted: 27 Jul 2018 10:44 AM PDT Hi, I have always heard of the big 4 operating systems, dos/windows, linux, unix, and bsd. However, the one thing in common is that they all have roots going back to the 90's or earlier and all have ties in one way or another pawning off other operating systems prior to that with nix etc. Such as linux kernel being based off of minix. Has there ever been any successfully created operating systems in recent years that don't have ties back to these giants? And if not, how hard would it be now for someone to even have a chance at starting and open source project to create an OS from the ground up collaboratively, kernel and all? Thanks.
