Where do you all start freelancing at for web dev? Posted: 30 Mar 2018 10:43 PM PDT Freelancer, Upwork, Fiverr, and the like? Or any other way that you get clients? Would love to hear yall's input on this. [link] [comments]
Personal website domain, how do you do it? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:06 AM PDT What kind of domain name do you use for your personal website? is it lastname.tld or firstname-lastname.tld or some clever url or brand or something completely different? I'm currently using lastname.tld (and the corresponding personal email address being firstname@lastname.tld) but I have an umlaut in my last name, which makes the domain name look a bit ugly. I thought about using firstname.tld but then having firstname@firstname.tld looks weird, too. I'm looking for some inspiration and where better than here? [link] [comments]
What css libraries do you guys use? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 12:18 PM PDT I only know of bootstrap and materialize but I know it's more out there. What do you guys like and use? preferably with react support and easy to use for smaller projects [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:28 AM PDT I am a recent Web Dev grad looking to move to Jakarta for one year. By the time of the move I will have 1 year Python + Django experience working in a successful London startup. Have any of you worked in Jakarta as a web developer or have any experiences to share or advice? My SO will be teaching out there and I have also taught an intro to web dev course in the past. I'm open to teaching and also wondered if tutoring web development or just programming is in demand in Jakarta. [link] [comments]
Which architectural patterns do you use? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 10:34 AM PDT In my case EventSourcing + CQRS + DDD. DDD is a bit overkill but I use it because I am used to it. [link] [comments]
Having to clear cache when never visited site? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:45 AM PDT This happens rarely, but sometimes when I make web updates, and I go to view in a browser that I've never used to visit the site, I still have to clear my cache before I see style changes that I've made. Is this something to go with expire headers? [link] [comments]
[Showoff Saturday] hexSorter - sort your colors Posted: 31 Mar 2018 11:49 AM PDT Had a project where I needed to sort hexadecimal color palettes, so figured I could just made a package of it in case anyone else needed it. I had to dynamically change colors of SVG files - and calculate which color to use where; https://www.npmjs.com/package/hexsorter Here is a stack blitz of the usage; https://stackblitz.com/edit/hexsorter Probably not the best coding/optimizing in the world, but hey - it works :) [link] [comments]

Having trouble using image tag Posted: 31 Mar 2018 03:19 PM PDT I am having trouble using the image tag in HTML5. I'm trying to link an image using Imgur, and all that appears is a empty white box with my alt text inside. Is Imgur not designed to do this, or am I doing something wrong? I have tried: "i.imgur.com/a/xxxxx.gif" "i.imgur.com/a/xxxxx" "i.imgur.com/gallery /xxxxx.gif" "i.imgur.com/gallery/xxxxx" "i.imgur.com/xxxxx.gif" "i.imgur.com/xxxxx" [link] [comments]
Junior dev - Am I Doing Enough? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 03:07 PM PDT I have been a web dev, react shop, for ~8 months now. This is my first dev role. I feel like I am not contributing enough. I mainly fix bugs, triage bugs, and implement small FE fixes or API calls. I have built several small components that have been deployed to production. I keep having this intimidating feeling that I am not doing enough. I constantly ask if there is anything I can work on or help the senior devs out, but most of the time they don't need/want it. I was picking at issues to assign myself in GitHub, but then was told that my senior devs would assign me tickets due to lack of exp and knowledge of the code base (it's a large codebase). Am I doing something wrong? Should I be worried about my job? TL;DR: Junior FE dev on a small dev team of 5 feeling like I don't do enough. What do I do? Am I doing enough? [link] [comments]
I start to understand why Devs tend to be introverts... Posted: 31 Mar 2018 09:04 AM PDT The computer has a very strange effect on me. Each time I am crunching for several days or even weeks, >8 hours a day, I start to feel like I do not know how to talk anymore. My head is just empty like the nirvana or full of code only. Don't really feel like I want to answer or support a conversation or even get in touch with people. If I am not crunching, I would say I am the total opposite. I like to party, talk, do a lot of sport and other stuff. How do you manage to find the right balance between finishing a project and to be social? :D Especially if you are working alone on the project. [link] [comments]
What do you do as a web developer working for a company/business? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 02:52 PM PDT So I'm learning web development currently and I find it's been amazing for me because it's a real creative outlet for me, even though I've yet to get to the level where I can do it all on my own, it's nice to see something you did immediately appear as you wanted....once you get it right lol. One thing I've wondered is how is your job performance reviewed? What is that you do at your job that you do which the employers look at mostly? Is it making it look presentable? Being on time? Being able to do things without help? Finding bugs? If you enter a business that already has a website, what are your usually job descriptions in those situations? I'd like to know so I can maybe make sure I'm especially understanding certain concepts. Thanks [link] [comments]

The Complete Web Developer in 2018; or The Advanced Web Developer Bootcamp? Posted: 31 Mar 2018 10:54 AM PDT What would be better to purchase on Udemy, Andrei Neagoie or Colt Steele's or both? My cousin who's pretty good at programming said he watched and read a BUNCH of stuff to get good. I was just curious which would be best for the money? [link] [comments]

Help with tables and selecting Posted: 31 Mar 2018 08:31 AM PDT So I'm working on a small tool which serves a simple purpose. It's kind of like a grading sheet(not its purpose tho), where the user selects parts of the table which get highlighted, and then those selections are meant to affect the final total value. I have most of it working, except being able to get the final value. I'm using jQuery(not very familiar with it). So for example lets say the user chose 2 in the last column and 2 in the third. From the values below it should put 10 in the value slot at the bottom. How it looks currently: http://prntscr.com/iyy7il This should have VALUE = 6, how would I go around doing that?
