How Helpful Is Technical Writing Skills For CompSci?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 03:26 PM PST

    Hello

So currently I am working IT at my university and a position opened for writing and maintaining knowledgebase articles for our department. What I'm wondering is how helpful technical writing will be for a computer science major. Would it look good on a resume or give helpful skills I will use in the future?

Just thought I would ask here for any input because it sounds like the training is long and annoying so don't want to commit to it if I am not going to get much out of the position.

Any experience or input is appreciated!

Edit: Wow this got more replies than I was expecting... Thank you all for the great input!

    Algorithms introduction Material

    Posted: 22 Feb 2018 01:13 AM PST

So recently I started a research position in data mining field, although I come from a Physics/Statistical Modelling background, and from I got from my supervisor is that I'll be working on pattern mining, subgraph discovery.

I don't know much about algorithms, even greedy algorithm, which I found out about few weeks ago, so I feel stupid each time I meet with my supervisor and I'd have to ask him about everything.

Is there any good introductory books with examples to this field? I kinda need to get good at something fast any good helpful material would be appreciated.

Considering dropping Math from my major

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 10:49 AM PST

Currently in my second semester with a declared major of Combined Math and Computer Science with a track in Security. Having the math part, it requires 106 credits, while without, only 86. If I want to finish in four years I will have several semesters with two math classes and two compsci classes and I'm not sure if that's the best idea. I'm currently in calc 2, elementary linear algebra, and the second intro to java course and I'm doing alright but it worries me that the classes will only get harder. Is there any real benefit to keeping Math as part of my major?

Raspberry Pi 3 for OS programming

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 06:10 PM PST

Was wondering how the raspberry Pi 3 was for OS programming and if it was possible to program in C or does it only work with assembly.

    Finding a regular expression for the language {1^n0^m | n is NOT congruent to m, modulo 3}

    Posted: 21 Feb 2018 05:36 AM PST

Hello I wrote an exam the other day and couldn't figure out the answer to this question and googling did not help either. Maybe anyone can help me figure it out?

Example for word in the language: 1110

Example for word NOT in the language: 11110

We defined regular expressions very similar to here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regular_expression#Formal_definition

Thank you for any help or hints!
