Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:59 AM PST The birthday of a friend of mine is in a few months. She's studying computer science at Princeton, with a focus in theory, and has a genuine excitement/passion for her work. Last year I gifted a hardcover of "The Art of Computer Programming." Now, I'm trying to brainstorm something new/complementary. It doesn't have to be a book. I'm a little naive to the world of CS, so a group brainstorm on what would be an enjoyable/helpful surprise would be sincerely appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Help Finding Nearest Neighbors of High-Dimensional Vectors Efficiently From a Database Posted: 13 Jan 2018 09:34 AM PST A couple things:
To throw a potential wrench into the problem, I want to be able to find the most similar vectors in the database to a vector that is not in the database as well. Could a few of you wizards point me in the right direction? [link] [comments] |

Applications that can add social value? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 05:55 PM PST Hello, I was wondering if there was some sort of list or forum where I could look at possible(and unmade applications) that could be beneficial and add some social value to society? I'm currently a high school graduate taking a gap year in my studies. I initially had taken some computer science courses. To really do something worthwhile with my time, I want to work with someone/ or independently to create something that adds social value(benefits people in places where they dont have access to education or some sort of application that can just save time) I'm new to programming. Having only gotten competent with c++, R and Scheme, I believe it's important to get your input, as I dont really know the full potential/capabilities of what exactly I can do at my level! Thanks alot! [link] [comments] |
What would make for a good Game Design Club? Posted: 13 Jan 2018 03:57 PM PST Usually this club was run by a prof, but was not really a club, just a informative session with extra or more advanced material. Said prof is too busy to continue, and extended the club management to students. I was thinking semester long projects but that is likely not sustainable. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Jan 2018 12:35 PM PST In PDA what exactly is the stack alphabet/symbol? Is it all the stuff that we input plus the stack symbol? So if we input 1,0 and stack symbol is $ then the stack alphabet is [link] [comments] |
The Presentation layer and its transmission problems Posted: 13 Jan 2018 11:56 AM PST Apparently there is a problem with the transmission problem with the 32 bits integers, double precision (64 bit) floating point number or so does a past paper claim. Does anyone have any idea what my lecturer is going on about? We certainly didn't cover it in this years lecture. EDIT: Perhaps it has something to do with ASCII as the next sub-question is
The answer to that is because not all nations worldwide use the Latin alphabet and would prefer to implement their national one? [link] [comments] |

I fear for my future so I'm dedicating 1 year to comp science. Posted: 13 Jan 2018 01:12 PM PST I want to dedicate my 2018 on learning all about computers. Please, help out and post the best tutorials or YT channels with guidance. . I'm on the basics right now tbh. Want to learn about graphics cards, processors, specs, coding, app development, etc. . From basic to advanced. My goal is to dedicate myself to freelance support, buying guides, enssemble and distribution as well as mobile apps development and web coding. [link] [comments] |
