How theoretical is Compsci degree UK is it worth it later on in career?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2020 12:17 AM PST

Weird question but not sure where to post it. I got kicked out of school pretty early - 15 - and later accidentally made a decent fortune in Crypto / digital marketing. I am now 21 and want to go back and finish University but not sure where time would be best spent. I have been programming since I was a kid and have decent knowledge on how to build stuff but feel like lack of education has held me back from learning more theory/understanding how a computer works. I want to do something in ML space - not 100% certain though - and also love/have always been good at math. I have heard Compsci degrees are mostly learning to program from some and that they are mostly theory from others. What was Compsci like in your experience and what info did it leave you with that you could not self-study? As, if it is just programming may look to do Math instead. Plus if I am is disciplined how much time does Uni take per week and can it be feasibly done while managing biz and doing classes at night. Sorry if unclear but I am struggling to find real info on what Uni is like for Compsci / Math B.A's that want to learn/do not care about hiring prospects. Also are hybrid classes - like both Math and CS - a thing and how different is the education in lower-tier universities that good ones in your experience

*Sorry for bad spelling written quickly

What basic notion from CS gave you a hard time understanding it?

For me it was recursion. I guess that even to this day it seems unnatural to me. Also most of my work was and is in embedded where recursion is seen as a big "no-no" so this doesn't help me exercising it.
