What did you enjoy most about the comp sci program at your school. Posted: 14 May 2020 12:56 PM PDT So I've applied for computer science, and I'm currently working on my math pre reqs, and I was wondering if anyone here could maybe elaborate on some aspects of the comp sci program you most enjoyed at your school? Perhaps add something you didn't enjoy? Hardest math concepts? Did you get any math blocks? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Was anyone scared or felt under prepared compared to others when starting their comp sci major? Posted: 15 May 2020 01:39 AM PDT Hello! I am currently a freshman going onto sophomore year after summer as a computer science major and I can't help myself but feel like everyone knows way more than I do. I studied a year of python and a year of java so I can understand the basics and do simple things but as i've talked to other people it seems like they are coding experts and know way more than I do. Did anyone else feel the same way when going into their major? How do you feel now about it? Thank you in advance :)) [link] [comments] |
[R] Google ‘Data Echoing’ Accelerates Neural Network Training Posted: 14 May 2020 01:34 PM PDT A team of researchers at Google Brain recently proposed a "data echoing" technique that enables these time-consuming upstream training stages to also benefit from accelerators. Introduced in the paper Faster Neural Network Training with Data Echoing, the technique reuses intermediate outputs from earlier pipeline stages so that idle accelerator capacity can be reclaimed. Here is a quick read: Google 'Data Echoing' Accelerates Neural Network Training The paper Faster Neural Network Training with Data Echoing is on arXiv. [link] [comments] |
Which fields in CS Research are hot in Private Companies (FANG, IBM, etc.), apart from AI/ML? Posted: 14 May 2020 07:09 AM PDT I just wanted to know what fields other than AI have commercial research going on in them. CS research at companies like Google, IBM, FB etc. which could be useful for the tech industry. [link] [comments] |
Getting into Computer Science in Europe without a Bsc Posted: 14 May 2020 02:14 PM PDT Hey there. Do you have any suggestions on schools and universities in Europe where I could enrol in a computer science masters degree without a bachelor in the same field? I'm striving to enter in this world and academia would be quite structuring for me but I do not have the traditional and often required background... I'm a dual European Canadian citizen and open to any suggestions. [link] [comments] |
