Do you still enjoy playing your game after having finished it ? Posted: 11 Dec 2021 01:19 AM PST I haven't made lot of games right now but each time, I don't feel like playing a game I've finished. Either it is a good one or not, all the time spent on testing features or debbuging is enough to stop me from playing it more, I have already seen everything in every angles. Plus, I don't enjoy playing a game where I know everything from the start (place to find the best weapon, best building combo, boss weaknesses and strength, story...) That doesn't mean I don't like (anymore) playing games or making one. I have countless hours on steam or other platforms and I really like the challenging part of making games. And you what are you thoughts ? [link] [comments]
How much do negetive reviews impact your willpower to play a game? Posted: 11 Dec 2021 03:30 AM PST We've recently made big changes to our game and have been trying to follow feedback we've been given from a negetive review and some comments, one in particular which felt very harsh at the time, we feel like we've improved a lot but obviously the review will always remain the same. When it comes to older reviews, how much do negetive reviews impact your chance to play a game? Does the face value of it being a big red thumbs down stop you from trying it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Dec 2021 10:24 PM PST Not just indie games but good games in general. Many good games simply don't make the money or sales they deserve. I know it's a broad question with more broader answers, but I'm interested in hearing some theories. [link] [comments]

Survival Wave Defense Campaign? Posted: 11 Dec 2021 02:56 AM PST I have an idea for a survival wave defense video game just like Survival Mode in MW3, I was wondering if games like this deserve/necessary to include a campaign? [link] [comments]

HOW should I go about making TIMED tournament sections Posted: 11 Dec 2021 12:16 AM PST So I've decided to finally finish a smaller game I was in the makings of since I'm not doing my big project tell after December and would like to know how to add time stages for this online game. Since its planned to have it where "3 minutes to collect resources (Building and pvp disabled) 5 minutes to build (Building enebled and collecting enebled) After 5 minutes both teams are teleported to thier team spawn and the main tournament starts" Yes this is online "never done online stuff" [link] [comments]
Making a 2D platformer/arena shooter. What should I keep in mind for the level design? Posted: 11 Dec 2021 03:46 AM PST It will be a static map (no moving camera and the entire map is visible at all times). We have a dash, double jump, maybe wall jump, fast movement, and weapon pickups akin to Quake. What should I keep in mind when designing a level for this kind of game (nothing super specific since I know that more info is needed for that, but just general tips or common mistakes). Posted: 10 Dec 2021 07:44 PM PST So I'm making a game, 3d open world rpg in a similar vein to bug fables or ttyd, but I don't know if I could do action commands, and am now wondering if I should make it free-form combat rather than turn based? Tl;dr a lack of self confidence in coding skill is making me want to change the combat system in my game to free-form [link] [comments]
Where can I go with a LiveOps career? Posted: 11 Dec 2021 03:11 AM PST Hi everyone! I hope this is the right sub! I've just had a recruiter send over a job description for a LiveOps role at a game dev agency and although I'm not familiar with this type of work, or gaming, it does seem pretty tempting. The role is based in Liverpool, UK if that helps. I currently work in operations at a bank so this would be a career change for me. From my Googles I understand a lot of this role is focused on looking at game stats and using this data to push new features, promotions etc. to increase a bunch of KPIs. I guess what I wanted to know is what sort of doors does this open in terms of a long term career? Are there any other roles that are a natural progression from this? Or do you get stuck within these types of roles? Also are there many of these roles available generally or is it quite niche? I'm going to do the interview next week but just want to fully understand my options before I make such a big career change. I hope this makes sense! [link] [comments]

Does vulkan in 2021 match the speed of opengl? Or beat it? Posted: 11 Dec 2021 12:09 AM PST From my understanding 95% of code written has opengl faster than vulkan. Is it still true? is there a case where vulkan is faster than opengl? [link] [comments]
Is studying art for gamedev a mistake? Posted: 10 Dec 2021 11:45 PM PST I had this burning question for a while. So I did CS for 2 years and switched to a design degree after I felt too much burnt out for CS. I am currently studying illustration and learning drawing and creating my own designs. That's not to say I don't know how to program but rather I'd not program in the first place and just design. For my thesis I'll be basically creating a game of my own using Unity and my own designs as much as I can. Yet I keep thinking if it was better to stick out CS entirely? I can't change my decision now but still wanted to ask. [link] [comments]
