What is the best/your most preferred type of Fishing Mechanic in a game? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 10:28 AM PDT Now, this is a very divisive topic I now, and it varies from person to person, and there cant be any one conclusive answer, but thats partially the point in that Im trying to gather data. I want to know what people feel is the their best/most preferred type of fishing mechanic in games, and Im not talking about games that are all about fishing, rather games that just so happen to feature fishing in them, whether its a major part of it, or something you can just so happen to do on the side. Whether they prefer to just get it over with, dont care for it in general, know of a way that make it actually fun, prefers it to be engaging, or perhaps theres a method out that I havent experience myself or thought of yet. The types of Fishing Mechanic playstyle I can think of and am balling around in my noggin are:
I also have some questions regarding it to help me flesh out the stuff even further. To clarify, Im in the process of making a survival game with some potential farming mechanics. But Im also thinking I could transfer this knowledge to another game Im making where you collect things.

Steam festivals - Please share your experience from previous events. Posted: 01 Jun 2021 06:10 AM PDT Hey guys, i have included my game in the upcoming Steam festival and I was wondering if you could share how it was for you and perhaps give some advices on what to do, what not to do, and what had a great benefit for your development. What was the best take away from the event? What activity was the most impactful(stream, chatting with players, forum discussions, just marketing images?) Did you get a lot of new feedback? Lots of new fans and wish lists? I am not sure what to expect so, would be awesome if some of you could share your past experiences! Thank you! <3 [link] [comments]
How do you cope with burnout from game designing/programming at work and for your personal projects? Posted: 31 May 2021 05:26 PM PDT Hey there, sorry if my question is a bit weird, I don't really know how to phrase it correctly. I'm a programmer with a side project going on. Recently I had a job as a programmer for a very small company focused on VR and AR applications. While I liked my job there, it was pretty tiring, and left me with little time to focus on my own work. When I do have the time, I always find myself not wanting to work anymore on any project, since, you know, I've already had a good day of work, thank you very much. I really want to apply my new skills to my own stuff, but I feel burned out of it siply because it feels exactly like the same thing I'm doing in my office. How do you manage to dissociate work from your personal projects ? I take breaks to avoid fatigue, but the longer I pause the longer it turns into procrastination, and working the next day at the office just kils the effort. I would like to know if you have a way to approach both sides differently to not associate your stuff with bad days of work. Thanks for your answers! [link] [comments]

Would Minoring in Film be Worth it? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 11:58 AM PDT Trying to decide if the extra costs/workload would be worth it. I'm majoring in English/Creative Writing and I hope to someday work my way into game development with that. Would having that minor help me stand out? I know some devs in the past have said that film/theater experience was helpful for their development cycles. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jun 2021 11:05 AM PDT Title basically sums up my question. I have seen conflicting things online that LLC grants less harsh tax or more depending on the situation. I already filed my steam game's tax info under my own SSN and information however I now have the LLC EIN or EID. Does anyone here have any suggestions based on your experience? Would it overall be easier to just keep it how it is or update it all to use my LLC's information? [link] [comments]
Any tips for capturing trailer footage? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 10:14 AM PDT I've been working on a trailer for E3 and one of the things we did very quickly was add a debug option to freeze the camera position. This is in a 3D third-person game. A static camera helped us linger on the environment a little more, and very clearly COMMUNICATE a couple gameplay features. I'd love to do way more than this and develop a kind of "trailer camera" for 3D games. Do you have any ideas? [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Jun 2021 11:53 AM PDT im helping a gamedev...this gamedev wants to market a game...should they mention their ailment in the sales pitch? (with the intention of helping others with the same ailment...and not pity points)...something about this rubs me the wrong way...whether they intend to secure pity points or not...thanks in advance for the brilliant opinions [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Jun 2021 07:54 AM PDT So yesterday I decided that I was done dreaming and finally started development on a game I've been wanting to make for years! I have decent coding experience but not game specific and I have very little experience on the creative side such as creating assets. I was thinking of starting in something like RPG Maker to have assistance in designing things and then eventually moving over to code to get the level of customization that I want for my game. Does anyone else have experience making 2d RPGs they could share? Or should I try some other strategy to develop my game? Excited to finally join this community and happy to hear any advice anyone may have! [link] [comments]
What's the best game genre to start from? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 11:35 AM PDT I already know the basic of C# and C, which I studied in school, so I was wondering what is the best type of game to start from. I would like to make something with minimal graphics since i don't want to focus too much on that. I did a bit of research and saw that an easy genre to make is the textual adventure. Does Steam (and other platform) pay the publisher or developer? And how about the tax? Posted: 01 Jun 2021 11:29 AM PDT I am a first time dev and I am wondering what happens to the payment if I launch a game through publishers. When a game is sold on Steam, Steam would take its 30% cut. Will Steam then pays the rest to the publisher or the dev? What about the tax interview if the publisher and the dev are in different countries? Thank you for any help. [link] [comments]
How to get multiplayer from local to world wide Posted: 01 Jun 2021 11:24 AM PDT Hey im currently working on a litte unity game which only really works with multiplayer. I'm currently trying out unitys new Networking solution with realtiv success, but my biggest problem is that i dont really get how to go from a game in my local network to something that my friends could join from their home. I would want 1. player to be the host and the other players to be able to join that host. I heard of things like peer to peer but dont really get it. How are the other PCs suppose to know where to send their data if i only have my typical ipv4 adress and am not using things like hamachi. Are there any solutions or literature that you guys would recommend me to use or read to maybe get a grip on this topic? [link] [comments]
(my expirence) If you are starting your journey, read this Posted: 01 Jun 2021 09:01 AM PDT Before I start this post off, I just want to say that I am on mobile, so everything may not look great formatting wise. Second off, this is my own personal expirence, that is directed towards people who are considering starting there journey into game development, and are wondering how long they have to study. This article isnt to say that itll take you as long to get the proper skills, but it's just something to base it off of. Great, let's begin. So, my game dev adventure can be distinguished into 4 different era. Each era I learned an important lesson, that further evolved the content that I made. The first game, called Forest Story was my first leap into the game. It was a 3D platformer. As my first game in unity, it isnt very good, but it helped me get comfortable with the tool. It was low poly, and pretty good scope. But I realized that the game wasnt really going to work. This was about 3 months of work, and I was pretty proficient in unity by the end of that. The game never had any code added to it Keep in mind, that I was proficient in unity, and knew coding LOGIC beforehand. The second era was a game called Melody Of Ashes. At this point, I had an idea of making a story based game, open world, with many different islands. This game was about 4months. This game taught me alot about scope, and just how insane an open world is. This game had a beautiful world design, and when I look at it to this day, I am still pretty proud of it. There where about 500 unique assets. But the game was extremely large, and it was extremely unoptimized, even if it did look beautiful. To add on, I had designed the world before I had even done the player controller, so the amazing world I built, while looked amazing, had no real functionality. But this era taught me alot about game art. At this point, people would complement my work all the time. And so thus I redesigned the game completely. Same name, different gameplay and story. And this time, i made it a 2.5d metroidvania. This time i decided i would do it right. I made a working player controller, that felt very good to play in. Had a bunch of unique mechanics too. I used playmaker. I generally prefer it over C# scripting, as since I'm a more art oriented person, I really appreciated the visual aspect. After that, I made some obstacles, which took forever. Alot of painful bug fixes, I was living the dream. As time passed, the game was looking amazing. Working gameplay, and it even looked BETTER visually than the last project. It was pretty buggy, but it was an actual game, with actual challenges. And that where it all ends. With all of these 3 eras, it's been about 2 years. None of those projects where serious, but after all of this, i am about to start a very serious project. Alot of pre production planning has went into it, and it's going to reinvent its genre. The last thing this project is going to teach me....is finishing and shipping. My journey is not like most. Beforehand I had 3D modeling skills, coding skills (the logic behind it, not using it in action), and drawing skills. Theres no wrong way to learn development. It may not be fun all the time, but remember why you are doing it. [link] [comments]
