Finally created my Portfolio all by myself! Posted: 06 Jun 2021 07:48 AM PDT This is something quite big for me and I have finally done it. I planned it, designed it, and finally made it! A simple portfolio made using Nextjs! I really want some feedback on this and feedback of any sort is more than welcome. I would love if you better pointed out some mistakes because I want to improve! [link] [comments]

Finally marked my first "big" milestone in the industry. Posted: 05 Jun 2021 08:36 PM PDT It all went so fast, I barely remember anything from the meeting. i was so excited!! TL;DR: started an internship, love what I do there. Made some mistakes. Called in a meeting. Got a job?! A bit of background. I'm 26, and since high school I've been in the Mechanical Engineering field without blatant success. I would get average of 55-60%. Then I discovered web/app development. I decided to throw all of my ME behind, and focus on programming/development. I started learning python for fun. Then I learned HTML, JS, CSS, React. I've been on this path for just about two years now. I finished my first year in Comp. Science and decided to get an internship through coop programs. I got one RIGHT away. I was so happy. I started the internship exactly ONE month ago. Friday, my boss calls me in a meeting, I'm super nervous thinking "shoot.. did I make a wrong commit, what did I F*** up this time...". I get inti the meeting, casual chat, and then boom.. he started saying how much he thinks I learn quickly, how my code is clean (except the times I messed stuff up). And then he proceeds to offer me a part-time job as a junior web/app dev with them after the internship. I have a foot in the business right now. It feels amazing.. [link] [comments]

Is there a "Designing Data-Intensive Applications" for frontend development? Posted: 06 Jun 2021 03:29 AM PDT Some of you may know Kleppmann's excellent book which gives a state-of-the-art overview of the systems needed on the backend side to build and scale great web apps. I've been reading it recently and I can see why it's so praised. Since I mostly work on frontend I'd like to know if there's an equally good book which defines the state of the current frontend landscape. A book which goes over frameworks, tooling, tradeoffs of different technologies, etc., possibly in a historical perspective. TIA. [link] [comments]
I'm finding it really hard to continue... Posted: 06 Jun 2021 02:45 PM PDT I've started with the Udemy course "The Web Developer Bootcamp" by 'Colt Steele'. I've done with HTML, CSS and Bootstrap. But I still find it hard to create simple web design. This is making me lose confidence. I don't whether i should keep doing this or this isn't for me. I don't know if others too went from this or just I'm bad at learning. I'm looking for help. You can suggest me ways to make things easy. You can guide me any way you can. It would mean a lot for me. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Question if PWA is what I'm looking for ? Posted: 06 Jun 2021 09:35 AM PDT Hello, so the requirements from the users (I'm doing this for a friend) are pretty simple: There is no server needed, the application is basically a couple of forms where the user enters data and some formulas are applied (what needs to be done is 100% do-able client side with js) and the results are displayed. The PWA would run on Androids that also have Chrome installed. The PWA needs to function even if there is no net available. The PWA needs to "survive" shutting the phone down and restarting it in an area with no internet. That last point is the one I couldn't easily find an answer for and it might be the one blocker stopping me from making this as a PWA, they told me this would happen IRL: The user installs the app in an area where they have internet access all well and good. They go out into the country side where they need to use the app, 0 internet access. They for some reason or another restart their phone, is the PWA still there (downloaded) can it still be used (the PWA does not make any API calls all logic is client side) ? Thank you. Testing web push/PWA notifications on Android without a physical device Posted: 06 Jun 2021 10:43 AM PDT I've built a PWA that uses web push notifications but unfortunately don't have an Android device to test it on. I have a Browserstack account and the student developer credits but haven't been able to get it to work (no push notifications are being received). The notifications work fine on Chrome and Safari, but I'm not receiving anything on Browserstack's Android emulator when approving notifications in Chrome. What is the best approach to testing web push notifications (not in app push notifications) on Android without a physical device? Thanks! [link] [comments]

When to use vector images vs. real images Posted: 06 Jun 2021 01:13 PM PDT I'm putting together a site for a start-up mortgage/marketing company. I want to know if any of you know of any reference materials that discuss the psychology behind using real images versus "cartoon-like" vector images. My concern is the webpage appearing childish (or not being taken seriously). The VIs have a simplistic appeal but may be too cliche or kitschy. IDK, please help🙃 Also, the client is my husband, he's essentially given me free range [link] [comments]
Stackoverflow Acquired, Need Alternatives. Posted: 06 Jun 2021 04:58 AM PDT Since Stackoverflow has been acquired by PROSUS: A company that provides services/subscriptions with platforms such as Udemy, Byjus, codeacademy. I've been a part of it for past 5 years with 50k Rep. And it seems obvious that there is expectations for a paid subscription to be dropped in soon. What other alternatives do we have in regards to forums like StackOverflow, So that us free contributors can join in and still provide solutions for everyone regardless of how much money they have .. Looking for a HTML+CSS course that teaches you how to use the browser devtools Posted: 06 Jun 2021 09:13 AM PDT Hi all, In my line of work I come across a lot of people who want to write CSS but don't have the skillset and are floundering along doing their best, unaware that there's a wealth of information out there waiting to help them. One frequent problem is that these people often don't know how to use the browser devtools to work out what is causing their issue. Are there any good, free CSS courses out there that I can direct these people towards that'll teach them how to use the devtools? Thank you! [link] [comments]
"snake-like wrapping autorun carousel" did I get that right? Posted: 06 Jun 2021 04:13 PM PDT TLDR: looking to recreate the "jailbroken iphone snake-like behaviour of apps moving as you swipe" better explaination: https://imgur.com/a/jgYO2jw Premise: I'm neither the best nor a good or experienced UI/UX designer, but this idea came to my mind and I really wanted to make it possible. Basically I'm trying to make a mock "ecommerce" site where physical stores just sign up and use it as a platform to be united, and I wanted the home page to be a big ole animated mixup of the registered stores' photos. As in the TLDR, my idea was to recreate the snake-like motion from row to row that you could find in jailbroken iphones a bunch of years ago, only automatic. Do you have any suggestion on how to actually make it run, or even how that kind of animation is called? My best bet would be a bunch of x translations depending on row, then translating y at the end and translating x on the opposite way once moved on y, wrapping around on the array of icons. If you've managed to read this far without going away, first of all thanks for listening to some rando's dreams of high class animations, and thanks again if you decide to help along the way! I'm pretty sure I'll owe you all one. [link] [comments]
Chess app built using React, Redux, and RxJs Posted: 06 Jun 2021 03:29 PM PDT Site: https://rxjchess.com/ GH repo: https://github.com/prashanthselvam/crazychess I built this chess app over a few weekends this year and wanted to share. It's a fully frontend static site where you can play the computer, play with a friend online (using websockets), or play locally over the board. For the AI, I used this open source chess engine which was easier to implement than Stockfish but it certainly makes some questionable moves...so might be switching that out in future iterations. Hope y'all like it and would love to hear any feedback or ideas for improvement! [link] [comments]

Question: How to create a group chat on the web and mobile Posted: 06 Jun 2021 11:10 AM PDT I'm thinking to create a chat room where user can speak in a group, generally how would you do that make a group chat that is secured and what tools are you using? I'm thinking to create for web and eventually for mobile user. I only have experience with front end so I'm kinda limited here, but I'd like to know my options whether I should hire someone or generally try to learn my self to build it. [link] [comments]
PHPStorm plugins that most affect performance? Posted: 06 Jun 2021 11:04 AM PDT Are there any popular plugins (I may have installed) that are known to cause sluggish UI performance, particularly when saving files? I ask before I do a tedious one-by-one "disable and see" check on all of them. [link] [comments]
What platform is the best to deploy django REST from? Posted: 06 Jun 2021 02:27 PM PDT This is my first time deploying a large scale product and I'm a little confused. I was looking at google cloud platforms "app engine" and it was pretty overwhelming how much I had to do to get started, like setting up the instance/VM, installing google cloud sdk, setting up buckets, setting up mySQL, etc etc. Whats the smoothest and easiest way to deploy a django back-end?
