Posted: 24 Mar 2021 04:26 PM PDT hey guys i recently revamped my portfolio to basically a collection of links because i didn't like how overly complicated my previous one was: https://www.andyluyoung.com/ for the reason stated above, i was very set on making sure it was very minimalistic and simple, but now realized its kinda boneless and i definitely could add more content/be more creative. so i was wondering if someone would like to give me feedback for my "portfolio"(quotes because i dont really showcase anything). i was thinking maybe a projects section(i had something like that in my previous version)? but also im afraid adding too much would kill the minimalism which i think does make it look neat, so not completely sure, what are your thoughts? I have a Go Daddy Domain for my website for my business Now what? Posted: 24 Mar 2021 04:11 PM PDT What are the best steps I need to take to get my website up and running asap. I hear I should not use the Go daddy domain so should I switch and to what? Which services are recommended? Then what do people suggest for the next steps? What is recommended? I'm guessing not Go Daddy even though I paid for a domain for a year. If they suck that bad I don't mind changing Choose a website builder Decide on a theme or template Add plug-ins Create pages and content Test your site and publish Market and maintain your website [link] [comments]

Domain Email Health - Questions Posted: 24 Mar 2021 04:42 PM PDT I ran my domain through Google MX Check, and MX Toolbox Email Health. Some background info: my domain's business email has been set up with Google Apps (the free legacy business plan), I'm also using CloudFlare for DNS and Netlify for hosting. The domain registrar is PorkBun. When I run Google MX Check for my domain I get the following error and warnings: error warning warning When I run MX Toolbox Email Health Check I get the following warnings: dns SOA Serial Number Format is Invalid dns SOA Expire Value out of recommended range smtp Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner Do you know if there is anything I can or should do about this? DMARC is in regards to spoofing, correct? Not sure about the DNS/SMTP warnings [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2021 12:41 PM PDT I'm trying to build a website from scratch, I've got an okay grasp on html and css and js and could probably fumble my way through it. It's basically a static site with soundcloud tracks embeded into it that's it. I thought I'd try my way through wordpress since I already have the genesis pro framework for it but have found it to be infuriating. I can't change the navbar super easily or do anything super easily for that matter. I feel like I'd be better off just writing the site by hand and doing it that way but I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on it. here's a rought prototype of what I wanted to do [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2021 03:58 PM PDT I want to make a marketplace. Do not question it, it is nothing illegal. I will be hosting it on my raspberry pi. What I will need is the following: a front-end dev to make the site itself, a JS or PYTHON dev to handle all the scripting and a database dev. The whole idea is that there is a landing page. There you can signup or log in. Then, when you are succesfully logged in, you will be redirected to the main website. The idea is to post help listings, saying that you will help someone with their spanish hw for this teacher or this teacher and will have a price. There will be people between grade 8 and 12 so keep that in mind. So also have them be able to sort by grade level. You will have multiple pages and a quick "about us" section. Now the listings, that is where the database guy comes in. He/she will make a database (not excel, obviously) and you will be ablle to input details such as assigment name, grade, pictures and description into it by the "Add new listing" button somewhere on the page. There will also be a messaging system, hopefully. You will be able to pay people for the help with A-Tokens. This will be a way of transacting. Each one will be 1 usd. If you want to buy them, they will cost 1 usd but if you want to cash out (you have more than 20, for example) by paypal or criptocurrency (the same way you will be able to buy them) they will be worth 70% of their original value. Thats the whole idea, it will be fully automated. The payment is 100 usd each. There will be no strict deadline, however 2 weeks I suppose is acceptable. We can change it thoug, dont worry. The payment can also change (up to a reasonable amount). Im sorry we cant offer a lot, we are 2 kids and that is almost all that we got. If you are just 1 person working on all 3 things, a small bonus is in order. Edit: I will be running this on a RPI4 with 2 gbs of ram. It has a quad-core arm cpu but it should be expecting around 200 ppl at once in the worst WORST case scenario. Normally, there would be 20 people max. However if the device is simply awfull to use as a server, we can switch it to a more privacy-respecting virtual one. If interested, pm us. Edit 2: :(. Too broke. Sorry guys. [link] [comments]
What from the Java ecosystem should a developer learn? Posted: 24 Mar 2021 03:40 PM PDT Hey guys, junior JS/React developer here started a role recently and our backend is written in Java with Tomcat/Maven - things I'd never heard of before so I was wondering what would I need to learn about in order to really get my head around this ecosystem. Is there a learning path for Java? For example I know I need to learn to write Java and learn Springboot as well as Maven. I've also heard about Swagger. What things do you think are crucial to someone learning about Java? At least just for understanding. Also - recommendations on project based courses that look like enterprise apps are appreciated! Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2021 01:41 AM PDT I intend to partake a weekend project I want to make a web crawler using nutch to crawl Elastic search to index the data And Kibana to visualise the data from elastic search. I intend to run all this in docker I have managed to setup and running so far But I want to take a step further I want nutch to crawl in the tor network instead of the clear net (deep web, dark web whatever you call it) This is where I am stuck Any idea how I could accomplish this ? Best programming language for this simple website? Posted: 24 Mar 2021 10:24 AM PDT If you had to build this so it is compatible with all platforms, (web, ios, android) how would you do it? Structure:
I tried Laravel but its a little complicated + it's not the best compatibility-wise with other platforms. So, how would you build it? Edit: I'm probably looking for a back-end language that's easy and compatible with all platforms, whether I'm building it as a webapp or android/ios. The whole project concept is just an "Add, Update, Deleted, Show) concept. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2021 10:15 AM PDT Hi there, thanks for reading this post. I have been building my first full project which is basically a site where you can search for local companies and also look for people who are available for hiring in a specific industry. So far I have a system in place that you can send GET, PUT, DELETE requests to '/companies' and '/people' and it will return/update/delete data for companies and people. I'm a little confused over whether this is an API and what other ways are there of storing data in a database as currently anyone could update and do anything to my database. I feel as though I've got lost along my learning and confused myself, now I'm concerned whether I'm doing things wrong. EDIT: So after viewing some diagrams I think what I'm doing is serving static files and inserting data from my database. Then there's server-side rendering which is when you build the site on the backend and send that to the browser so it can be rendered dynamically when there's new data, like on Twitter. Then an API is where the data is collected from the server then sent to the client in the form of JSON or whatever structure the API is designed to produce. I think this makes sense please correct me if im wrong. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2021 01:55 PM PDT Hey all, I was curious if there was a few ideas on how to store blog posts in a relational DB. I'm most familiar with PostgreSQL, can use Sequelize to access it as well. For those that do, do you run into issues with media, links, and/or formatting? I've done blogs before but only as small projects, and the posts were small enough to just put into a JSON object and render it. Thank you!! [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2021 01:38 PM PDT Hello devs of webdev, I'm working at a new company and the PR situation / git workflow is a bit confusing to me. Is it typical to have many people working on the same parts of the same files? At previous jobs we had tried to avoid this, but this team is like, "meh we'll just resolve conflicts if/when they come up." So I end up in a situation where I'm working on a file but I know that someone else on my team has already ripped out part of the file I'm working on and refactored it somewhere else b/c of a PR they put up and meanwhile a third member of the team is also working on that file. It makes me a little crazy to think that I'm just gonna have to undo a bunch of shit and/or relocate it and that this could happen with anything I'm working on at any time (esp when everyone is glomming on to one feature at the same time). I've brought up this issue with the team and other devs have been like, "no big deal, I'll be happy to resolve any conflicts" but this doesn't actually happen sometimes. I know some of this is more of a traffic management issue than a git / PR workflow issue, but in my mind it's all kind of related. Thoughts? Is this normal and I'm just not used to it? Thanks all. I'm working with SQL, and I wonder if someone can help me with some logic. Posted: 24 Mar 2021 01:27 PM PDT Hello. So I am working with a SQL Database, and whilst I have it working. I feel like I'm missing something, and I don't need two tables?. Basically, a user signs up, and it enabled them to sell Products. Before they sell a product, they can create a product category. So Jacob signs up, creates two categories called: When Jacob creates these categories, a primary key, his category name and user ID is then inserted into the Jacob now starts creating his product. Jacob is a painter, and selects his category Inside table number 2 : Now writing it down, it seems OK. I've only worked with SQL for a couple of months, so I am unsure if what I am doing is considered OK. or if I'm just thinking about this wrong, and it can be done with just one table? Frontend courses with hard deadlines Posted: 24 Mar 2021 09:29 AM PDT Hi all, I started my programming journey with the MITx Python class through Edx (6.00.1x). It's been a phenomenal class. Very challenging, it forces you to solve difficult problems on your own and write programs. It also has hard deadlines that helped me stay on task. I'm now looking for a similar Frontend course that digs into HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Not looking for anything easy and I need hard deadlines. I've tried courses with soft or no deadlines and it just doesn't work for me. Coursera for example only has soft deadlines. I'm willing to pay for the course. Doesn't need to be free or cheap. I've had trouble finding such a course. If anyone can offer some suggestions I would be greatly appreciative! Thank you!!! [link] [comments]
Help Needed - I'm going crazy! (Php error?) Posted: 24 Mar 2021 01:07 PM PDT My website, http://www.instaparlor.com suddenly started giving an error last night. It's very strange, sometimes the site loads without issue. Sometimes I get this: "Call to a member function fetch_object() on null" Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be? It doesn't make any sense that sometimes the site loads error free and sometimes I get this error. Do you think it could be a server hosting issue? (godaddy) [link] [comments]
Discord-twitter API bot to post parent retweets but not other user retweets Posted: 24 Mar 2021 12:58 PM PDT Hi! Sorry if this is in the wrong place. If anyone has a better place I can post this I'm all ears. I have a discord bot hosted on replit and I am trying to get it to post the parent tweets of "Courtne337_USER_ID" (this is a test account) but exclude other user replies, quote tweets, and retweets. Right now it posts the parent tweets from "Courtne337_USER_ID" but not the "Courtne337_USER_ID" retweets, replies, or quote tweets. I can get it to post retweets, quote tweets, and replies but then it posts retweets, quote tweets, and replies from every user, not just "Courtne337_USER_ID." Hosted on replit, using node.js, discord.js, and twit npm. Relevant code: Shows all replies, retweets, and quote tweets: [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2021 08:55 AM PDT I am tutoring a student and he has learned HTML, CSS and JavaScript to a decent level. Now, he is about to move on to the backend. He is my relative, I have never before tutored somebody face-to-face. When I learned this stuff, PHP was the undisputed king of the back-end. But now, I see that things have changed, and which is the backend technology that is best for today ? I think it would be Node.JS, but I am in doubt. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2021 12:36 PM PDT A client's hosting provider has given me their FTP details to begin work on a new site. I get a "530 login authentication failed" when I try to log in. The hosting provider says I need to connect in active mode but I can't find any settings for active mode on filezilla. I can't find anything online either. Any ideas anyone? [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Mar 2021 03:52 AM PDT It's a lot of years that I don't use the <form /> tag to make API calls, I always use javascript, with a logic like "hide content, show a spinner, create a request object by parsing the DOM, make the async call, hide spinner, show the result". But yesterday I thought: "hey, why bother with javascript async calls if I can just put everything inside a <form /> tag? What do you think? [link] [comments] |
