Is Vanilla JS worth the hasstle for a large scale website ? Posted: 12 Jan 2021 02:46 PM PST I read somewhere that Vanilla JS is 30x as fast as React Js, which i usually use on projects. I'm now about to start working on a large scale e-commerce website. It's designed to handle a big number of users and I wanted to ask you guys if you think i should use Vanilla JS or compromise for the speed and use ReactJS [link] [comments]
document for designing features in web application Posted: 12 Jan 2021 01:58 PM PST Does anyone have a suggested technical blueprint or template that can be used to outline features => components while iterating and building an MVP? I'm using JIRA to track my own progress, but I haven't found a good template for confluence. Open to any suggestions honestly. [link] [comments]
[QUESTION] Is anyone else having a hard time finding front end opportunities in the NYC area? Posted: 12 Jan 2021 11:00 AM PST I have about 4.5 years of front-end experience and I've been looking for the last 6 months, but interviews are few and far between. Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just me? I mainly check Indeed and Dice every 2 days as well as looking through the careers site of around 75 local companies. Hit me up if you know anyone who's hiring. Edit: I'm really sorry if this is the wrong place for this but I'm running out of places to look. [link] [comments]
I'm in an internship without support! Posted: 12 Jan 2021 11:01 AM PST A little backstory. My last requirement for my bachelors in Web Design and Development is an internship. I've had a really hard time finding one during 2020 and ended up taking the first one I got an offer for so that I can graduate in April. It's a small biotech startup and they brought me on to redesign and implement their website explaining what the company does. This is fine and totally within my skillset. Now, they are asking to add on a store page for their 3 products and I don't really know where to start. I've heard a lot of businesses use Shopify and it seems like that might be the way to go. I feel confident enough that if there is good enough documentation then I can work my way through it. In one of my classes we created a mock ecommerce website with php, where it had user authentication and a shopping cart but it didn't have any of the payment processing. What would you recommend for this? [link] [comments]
Google (Places?) API for Menu Data? Posted: 12 Jan 2021 02:41 PM PST Hello, I'm trying to aggregate local restaurant menu data for a project. I see that most places have their menus listed somewhere, and google has 90% coverage (IMO). I see plenty of information for stores to upload and manage their data. But i don't see how to access it as a developer! I assume that menu data is in one of their APIs, but i can't find it. Am i blind? Does it not exist? Thanks for reading! [link] [comments]

Is it worth learning jQuery just so I can understand things on Stack Overflow? Posted: 12 Jan 2021 08:41 AM PST So, I started learning web development and design in 2018. Even then, every tutorial I looked at seemed to say "jQuery is dying and there's no point in learning it", so I never bothered. I just focused on HTML, CSS, vanilla JS, and eventually React. Still though, over the past few years nearly every time I google a problem I get taken to Stack Overflow and both the question and answers have those damn little "$" everywhere, which I recognise to be jQuery, but I always just click away and try to find the answer elsewhere, rather than trying to decipher it all. I don't see myself using it, but where could I quickly learn the basics just so I can understand it when I see it? Also, I still do see it on lots of job listings. So it would be nice to be able to say I can work with it. [link] [comments]

Help Needed! Subscription based website. Posted: 12 Jan 2021 12:00 PM PST Hi, I'm working with a chain of restaurants to develop a subscription based system where by users can pay so much per month and get unlimited food. Was wondering if anyone had worked on a similar project and could recommend what technology to use. I'm particularly interested in what services I can use to set up monthly recurring payments. Should not I'm not a professional developer and I am more taking a project management role on this project, but we are not looking to use someone else to develop this for us. Once users have a subscription the functionality of the site is relatively straightforward for what i need it to do, I think. Any pointers much appreciated [link] [comments]
Should .eslintcache be in git? Posted: 12 Jan 2021 11:56 AM PST Or should it be added to gitignore? Seems like something tha't going to constantly conflict every time you git pull origin <branch> and somebody else's version of the cache comes in [link] [comments]
What template/theme does comma.ai use? Posted: 12 Jan 2021 02:38 PM PST I'm a fan of the webdesign https://comma.ai/ uses. Does anyone know what template they are using (or if there is a comparable one available)? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jan 2021 01:44 PM PST I am 3 years deep into my career and looking for a change. I've browsed Dice and Indeed, applying to some ~50 job openings since the new year. The majority of the positions on these sites are. . . trashy. A huge list of technologies with multi-year requirements for each and that's before you make it to the 'nice-to-have' section. The 'senior' positions outnumber all others 10:1 but you wouldn't know by the compensation. Also just by nature of having my resume on these sites, my phone and gmail are exploding with I'm currently employed and am struggling to find time to sift through all this trash to find the next opportunity. Any suggestions on other places to look for work so I can up my numbers game and move this along? [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Jan 2021 12:59 PM PST Hey! I have a website where I want visitors to be able to buy PDFs. When purchased, I want to send by email personalized copies of the PDFs with the name of the buyers tagged at the bottom of each page to discourage people from making copies of the said PDFs. All of this process, from the purchase to the distribution by email would be, ideally, automatized and/or managed by an online platform. Does anyone know how I can achieve that? Many thanks! Is it possible to post onto Insta, Facebook, Twitter and a local website from one location? Posted: 12 Jan 2021 05:11 AM PST Hi there! I am a Cyber Security specialist student from the Netherlands. My team and I have gotten an assignment from a small business to create a system where they can post one message in one location that will then be posted on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and their own website in the exact same way. Would this kind of system be possible? We know barely anything about web design and stuff like that so that's why I am asking for help here. We can use all the help we can get. Thanks in advance! Realistic earning expectations? Posted: 12 Jan 2021 12:36 PM PST Hey guys. I've been in software development for 2.5 years and have a full time job. I want to go freelance, but I have loan payments for the degree I'm not using so I need to hit 3k/mo before taxes just to break even. To make it worth it to me, I would have to hit 5k/mo. I have 8-10 months of expenses saved. Is it realistic to expect to be learn to navigate the freelance environment and build up that kind of income in that time? [link] [comments] |
