Hello friends, the development of an action game in an Indian village continues to share the results of the work. Does the art work remind you of the atmosphere of India? What needs to be improved? What task should the main character face in this location?

Any AAA devs hanging about this sub?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 08:16 PM PST

I've been in AAA for getting close to a decade soon, and I'm looking for some social circles to vent, get some advice, or insight to other folks' experience at different studios. Just peeking at glassdoor or chatting on twitter is always one sided or censored unless you chat with people in private.

Truth is I'm considering jumping ship and just going some dev in my spare time instead to scratch that itch. But I don't want to rush to (another) unfortunate decision too rashly. The other side of the coin is switching studios but that's always a gamble and I've had terrible luck.

Best game engine for mulitplayer quiz game?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:21 PM PST

Hi! I have been in web dev for a long time, and in game dev for not so long, but im at the moment planning on creating a new mobile app. My dad has been planning and developing a board game for a long time, and he REALLY wanted it to be a mobile game as well. I have a bit of knowledge inside the coding world, and i was curious if someone could help me with 1 simple question.

I'm creating an app for android and ios, and im not sure which game engine to pick? My game should be a simple game with a in-game currency shop, a friend list, and the main feature is a question based game, where you can challenge your friends, to see who has the best football knowledge. Just like wordfeud, you would each have your turn to get a question, and if you answer correctly, you get to move your character one block closer to the goal :D I really hope you will be able to guide me :D I do btw both have a windows and mac computer, so i would be able to run most of the game engines :D

Is it possible to trigger events in Unreal Engine 4 using Twitch API?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 08:15 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

Beware that I am new to UE, so my question might sound stupid, but I had to ask.

I am trying to make virtual set in UE where animations/events are triggered every time when I have Twitch sub/follow/donation. It would also be nice to have stream chat in 3D.
Is something like that even possible?

Atypical careers game-dev related careers and the future?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 07:29 AM PST

    Hi all,

I began my game dev journey in 2004 when I went to art school and obtained a B.S. in game art and design. It was a difficult experience and well worth it at the time. I learned a lot of skills and focused my effort on 3D development (opposed to say concept art, ui, etc.)

I worked a couple of internships prior to graduating. A museum that used the unreal 2 engine for visualizing a vr dinosaur exhibit, and a startup game company developing their own engine, which at the time was Unity's competition. Due to where I live these were the only game-dev related opportunities, so I took on what I was able.

After graduating I was offered a job (through recommendation/ grapevine of the game company I was interning at). The job was for a 3-letter scientific agency using game engines to create serious games, simulations, visualizations, experiments...

I have been at this job for 12 years and have worked on some interesting stuff using different game engines and HMDs. I have noticed that geographically, there is very little opportunity outside of this as I am always checking job postings. I feel very fortunate to work at the same company for such a long time but also feel trapped since the work is not as creative as I've hoped. I've always wanted to work on an RPG, the next Dark Souls. Lol.

Has anyone else been down this atypical route where you work on unconventional projects that are game-dev in nature, but lacks create freedom due to the serious nature? Industries such as the military and other scientific agencies utilize vr for specific projects. Does anyone else currently work in these fields? If so, do you ever envision leaving to take on more creative work?? It is a huge gamble for me at least, with 12 years at my current company. Sometimes I think I am too afraid for the other shoe to drop, but then again is it even worth it at this point?

    Sorry for the epic rant.

    Unity alternatives?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 02:31 AM PST

I am making software for my school that is basically a tracker for homework all in one app. I thought of using Unity, because it is easy for me and I can do amazing stuff with it. However, I read it's not good for mobile APPS. Any alternatives for software development similar to unity? (Not VS, please, I already know and I might use that.)
