Do you have any advice for a Web Developer making the transition to Game Dev?

buying 3d models for games need help with License

    Posted: 03 Jan 2021 11:30 PM PST

Hello, I want to buy several meshes for my game from artstation and they have standard license and Extended Commercial License.

If I understand correctly, I can use meshes with standard license, while my game has less than 2000 sales, is it correct? And after my game exceeds 2000 sales, I need to go and repurchase the same mesh with an Extended license? If it's not, please explain how it works.

And the second question is what if model has only standard license for 2000 sales, that should I do with it after my game exceeds 2000 sales?

    Please help

Looking for ideas on 2d art style for top down game

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 03:06 AM PST

So I've been working on a small 2d game lately. Not sure exactly how the gameplay will turn out in the end, but it is a top down 2d game, with elements of building stuff and moving your characters around.

Currently I have very simple placeholder graphics, but I want to create some actual graphics soon. I'm looking for inspiration on what view/style I should have. This is what I had in mind:

    • 2d from top down (more or less), no fake 3d perspective.
    • No "pixel art style" or comic style.
    • Should be relatively simple as I'm no real artist.

The character style in Prison architect and Rimworld comes to mind, but I would like to see if I could to it in a less distinctive way.

Any suggestions? Maybe you know of some game that sounds like this, that I can take inspiration from?

When you use a asset that you downloaded, is it proper to give that person credit?

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 01:00 AM PST

I recently downloaded a few sprites (I'm making a 2d platformer) and I kept the page that I downloaded from because I'm not sure if I need to give credit to the creator of the sprite at the end of my game?
