    FEEDBACK FRIDAY #423

Well it's Friday here so lets play each others games, be nice and constructive and have fun! keep up with devs on twitter and get involved!

Post your games/demos/builds and give each other feedback!

    Feedback Friday Rules:

Suggestion: As a generally courtesy, you should try to check out a person's game if they have left feedback on your game. If you are leaving feedback on another person's game, it may be helpful to leave a link to your post (if you have posted your game for feedback) at the end of your comment so they can easily find your game.

-Post a link to a playable version of your game or demo

-Do NOT link to screenshots or videos! The emphasis of FF is on testing and feedback, not on graphics! Screenshot Saturday is the better choice for your awesome screenshots and videos!

-Promote good feedback! Try to avoid posting one line responses like "I liked it!" because that is NOT feedback!

-Upvote those who provide good feedback!

-Comments using URL shorteners may get auto-removed by reddit, so we recommend not using them.

    Burnt out on the scene

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 11:48 AM PST

Like most kids i liked video games and was especially inspired by games like wind waker that had beautiful aesthetics, and the feeling of an explorable world. With the internet, I was able to spend my teens locked up trying to make cool game ideas real. I'd spend hours daily and months on end grinding to make ideas happen and did manage to release some things but I'd always be unhappy with them because they didn't feel worthy or just dropping projects and starting new ones. But after so many attempts and the usual frustrations of programming, i would often wonder why im so motivated to grind when i hardly play or enjoy any games. So many reusable assets and rehashing similar ideas i thought were genius and it's weird i want to create but don't even like video games much. I just want to remake that immersive feeling I don't get from games anymore. And it was my only creative sort of outlet and i love the idea of having a creative project i put time into. But it's so saturated and I'm not even sure why i still go through the grind just to say this project actually sucks and repeat. Have any of you figured out a sort of process? Felt similarly before?

    Legality of use.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 10:17 AM PST

I am sure this is a very complicated subject that would probably require a very detailed understanding of the specific situation, but I'll ask any ways.

I have recently come across a news story that I believe would make for a great game. It does not involve any public figures per se, simply a handful of regular people. Most of the interactions were publicly posted on Twitter. One of the tweets about the situation does have where they put copyright 2020, and their name.

What is the legality of using the story as the basis for a game.

Some things could be generalized, but there are specific situations and interactions that I believe need to be close to real life to have the same feel.

    I appreciate everyone's advice.

If I were to get a job in the game development industry, would I be able to be both a programmer and designer ?

I want to be able to do both. Am I able to? (I am a beginner at gamedev so no need to go hard on me)

Should I start my professional career as a game developer?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 04:05 AM PST

Hi there, I am seeking some career advice from those who are knowledgable about the gamedev career path. I am a CS graduate and I am deciding whether or not I should start my professional career as a game developer, as opposed to another offer I have as a general software engineer.

I myself do not have much experience at all in game development, and I do not have much knowledge of the industry. I have talked to a some passionate game developers in recent years and all of them say that it is an exceptionally rewarding (albeit demanding) career. My worry is, should I choose to take up a game developer role as a fresh graduate, does that restrict my options in the future in applying to other software engineering roles if I find that game development is not for me? I know that game developers work with very specialised technologies and frameworks, so I am hesitant to commit to that career path as I have not experienced it before.

I greatly appreciate any thoughts or advice you might have on this, and apologies for any mistakes in the post as I have never posted on reddit before.

How hard is making an online multiplayer game?

Nothing crazy like CoD or GTA, but something more like Town of Salem, or Among us type multiplayer hosted PTP probably.

Need help with a resource guide form Packt

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 10:25 PM PST

Hi, I am relatively new to game development. I was looking for a resource to start with without much investment. Has anyone referred to any books from Packt? They seem to have all their books for $5 until 13th January. Seems like a good time to buy a resource guide

    Thank you in advance :)
