Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:02 PM PDT When I cmd+shift+c, a detached inspector window always shows behind the active website. In contrast, Chrome ensures the inspector panel is on top which makes more sense. I know you can hit Fn+F12 to bring it into view, but it seems like an unnecessary extra step. Is there a setting, or a plugin, or some hack that I can do to make sure the inspector is in focus when I want it to be? Like when I inspect an element? Thanks! [link] [comments]
What free email solutions do you suggest for your clients? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:43 PM PDT In the past, I've used Zoho to create free accounts for clients so they can use their custom domain with Gmail. Zoho now requires a paid account for POP3 and other features like email forwarding, so I'm trying to find another solution. For several clients, I've started setting up email accounts in HostGator and then show them how to connect their Gmail accounts, but there is a significant lag before they actually receive emails. It's taken a couple hours for some emails to go through and it doesn't seem to be the connection between Gmail and HostGator, but the HostGator webmail itself. I'd like to be able to suggest/implement a better email service for them, but I'm having trouble finding a similar solution that is free. [link] [comments]
How do you use this special character to make your username and video titles invisible? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 03:18 PM PDT I just got this video recommended to me which was posted by this user. I'm curious as to how did this user manage to make his username like this, and how can I do it as well? Using 'Inspect' I can see that he uses a special "zero-width non-joiner" character, but whenever I try to use that character in Google settings, it won't accept it since it gives me a red error message saying "some characters aren't allowed". I can post a comment and create videos titled like that without a problem, but when changing my username, it won't allow it. Any way to work around this? [link] [comments]
I tell myself I don’t have time Posted: 01 Oct 2020 09:40 PM PDT I have projects I've been working on but only work on them when I set aside about an hour or two to do the work. I want to use the random 15-20 minutes I get in a day to make progress but just get anxious and when I start working and don't "finish" I don't remember where exactly I was at last time I was working on my dev projects. Anyone else run into this sort of thing and know how to handle it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2020 02:15 PM PDT I had a code assessment today and this is the first time I didn't finish all of the questions. I had two left (the most difficult imo) and I got side tracked by a simple verifier function I had make costing me a huge chunk of time. I just feel like a failure because I should've budgeted my time better and the recruiter said most applicant finish in like 30 minutes. Idk if I'll get a chance to actually speak to a dev about my test either which sucks. I'm hoping on Monday I get some feedback because the company seems great and I've been interviewing crazy lately. Just feeling sort of shit and need an outlet sorry. [link] [comments]
Is there any way I can extract this pyramids background image? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 02:14 PM PDT https://dribbble.com/shots/7147835-GOTOEGYPT-Travel-Landing-Page/attachments/152347?mode=media I reverse-searched it. Found nothing. Even searched in Unsplash, found nothing like it. Is there any tool or a way to find/extract that background from the picture itself? [link] [comments]

I got the job offer, but I'm having doubt whether to take or not. Posted: 02 Oct 2020 02:05 PM PDT Some backgrounds: I'm currently working and manage multiple sites using jquery, I've been in this company for almost 2 years. The company is going to transition using js framework soon and I'm really interested to have more experience using js framework rather than using jquery. At the same time, I received an offer which will bum my salary for 40%, it's the highest I ever receive, but, the new company is still using jquery and to be honest, I'm not that interested using jquery anymore. Plus, I'm not that good using jquery, if I rate myself, I'd give 3 out of 10, most of my task at the current company is mostly styling and updating cms, I'm not sure how I survive, but I normally use vanilla js instead of using jquery if I need to add some interective elements. My sticking point:
If you were me what would you do? Please advice. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:58 PM PDT So as I said I just finished my basic html and css courses on freecodecamp (and some youtube and reddit), and I would like if someone more experienced would have a look and tell me my bad and good practices. Like, maybe there are mathods to write all I wrote in a shorter way, or tricks I missed... anything! I just really wanna be comfortable with html and css before I move on to applied visual and JavaScript. Thanks, here is my code's folder with everything (the html, css and one font), I used VScode btw: [link] [comments]
Something else than Wordpress for beginner Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:36 PM PDT Hi, I've been 'building' some sites with Wordpress on and off over the last couple of years. I've been using some themes but I don't find it very intuitive or fluent. Feels to me like everything is crammed in there, bloated, and forced in place. Anyway, I was wondering where else I can go to. I have bought a theme off Bootstrap and have all the html, css and js files, and I've been dabbling a bit in DreamWeaver with it. I have found it more fun than Wordpress but I see a lot of shortcomings. I don't know where to go for backend development. Basically, I am looking for a better kind of Wordpress with more liberty. Someplace where I can use the theme I have bought with all its files and improve it and modify it, with backend develpment possibilities Does what I am saying make any sense? I don't quite speak the development linguo very well. [link] [comments]

Improvising my website design... looks shit :( Posted: 02 Oct 2020 06:26 AM PDT Hello! I'm starting to get really annoyed with my situation. I'm making a website for a relative who needs a website for her dog-breeding related stuff. The problem is, I know what content that is expected, but no idea how it shoud look in any way, no idea about colors, fonts, width... nothing. I've got very vague input from her and I can tell she doesn't know either how it should look. So I've beeen trying to make something from scratch from my head but it just doesn't work. Right now I don't even want to look at it because I don't like it. I guess my imagination isn't good enough. Do you guys have any idea on how I could proceed here? [link] [comments]
NextJS App: User (Cookies) undefined in production, but not in local dev environment Posted: 02 Oct 2020 08:34 AM PDT Hi there, I'm building a NextJS app with GraphQL-Yoga / Prisma backend and Apollo-Client / NextJS frontend. For some reason in my index.js file in the backend I am able to log the user / cookie token in local development environment, but not when it's in production. Anyone ever experienced a similar issue and if so, what resolved it? Thanks! [link] [comments]
No script,.no-js,and native lazy loading Posted: 02 Oct 2020 11:42 AM PDT How are you guys handling the typical methodology of no js hiding lazy js based images plus noscruot with the new lazy loading method in browsers natively. If js is turned off doesn't matter. If you add the noscript you now have two images because it works both ways. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Oct 2020 06:48 AM PDT I am new at full-stack development. I recently completed a project, but I am unable to deploy it on Heroku. Hello, I am trying to deploy a node application. I have tried deploying it by connecting the git repository as well as by using Heroku CLI. Earlier I was getting an error that the cross-env module is not found, I did a bit of research and found out it was because I had not added it to production dependencies in package.json. I resolved this issue but now I am getting a different error. remote: npm ERR! code ENOENT remote: npm ERR! syscall open remote: npm ERR! path /tmp/build_e1bb26b3/client/package.json remote: npm ERR! errno -2 remote: npm ERR! enoent ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '/tmp/build_e1bb26b3/client/package.json' remote: npm ERR! enoent This is related to npm not being able to find a file. Here's what I have added to the scripts of package.json "scripts": { "client-install": "npm install --prefix client", "build": "concurrently \"cd client && npm run build\" \"npm build \"", "test": "echo \"Error: no test specified\" && exit 1", "client": "cd ./client && npm start ", "server-prod": "node app.js", "server": "nodemon app.js", "start": "node app.js", "start:dev": "concurrently --kill-others \"npm run client\" \"npm run server\" ", "heroku-postbuild": "NPM_CONFIG_PRODUCTION=false npm install --prefix client && npm run build --prefix client" }, I have also added a .gitignore file for node_modules and .env and I have put the environment variables through the web interface of Heroku (config variables at settings). Could you please tell me where I am going wrong, I have tried everything I could find on StackOverflow and other forums non of them seems to be working. It would of great if you could point out what I am doing wrong as I am completely new to this. [link] [comments]
Pelican static site generator 4.5 released Posted: 02 Oct 2020 06:35 AM PDT
Posted: 02 Oct 2020 09:49 AM PDT For some reason when I mentioned I had a few websites I've set up I'm now the expert web designer at a small company. My only websites are Joomla and WordPress sites I've set up with extensions, themes, etc. I maintain the hosting and updates, but I don't actually develop anything. I did learn some HTML and CSS in the mid 2000s, but never any database stuff. Now they are moving full speed ahead with wanting a website to solve a problem they know of in our industry. I've at least convinced them they'll need to hire someone to do the bulk of the site requirements that are beyond my abilities. Right now I'm doing a mock-up WordPress site to show the look and feel of what they are describing. I'll generalize the concept. There are warehouses in various cities and companies needing to lease space to store their widgets along with space for their required on site staff. The database we provide will have costs and fees associated with each city location and the customer will input their numbers into it for calculation. The customer will select their city and their company (or the company will be tied to their account). The site will then calculate the rates based on their inputs and our database values for that combo. Then the results need to be provided to them in multiple neatly formated tables to save as pdf, excel, and/or a few others. Right now each company uses an excel spreadsheet that has all the values and formulas, but is different between each city. We are looking to combine them into one central website instead. I see the need for custom front end and back end development. I also think this will exceed the use of simple cPanel type hosting and probably a custom dedicated server(s). Any guidance is appreciated. [link] [comments]
Can an unwanted domain forward be blocked? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 05:25 AM PDT For example, antifa.com forwards to joebiden.com. Is there a way for Joe to block that from happening? [link] [comments]
I am hosting a Web Development Jam Posted: 02 Oct 2020 08:50 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'm hosting a web development Jam tomorrow. It will be a 24 hour competition based on the theme and criteria we give for the project. The only rules are you are not allowed to utilize a template or use a drag and drop system to create your site. It must be made from scratch but you can use any web technology you want! We already had 300 sign up and I'm just interested in continuously exposing more people to competitive programming! Let me know if you're interested! [link] [comments] |
