Should I Make A Series Of Articles On Game Development And Design? Posted: 06 Sep 2020 07:55 AM PDT I recently made an article on How To Create Solid Game Concepts and I got some pretty good feedback on it, and I'm considering making a weekly series of articles on game development and design to help people in the industry. If you would like to see me do this, what topics would you like to see me do? What questions can't you find good answers to? Let me know! Thanks Josh [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Sep 2020 10:19 AM PDT I am trying to host a game jam on my indie gaming discord server. Because most people on there are not familiar with coding yet, I decided to allow games made with Scratch aswell. The theme/topic are not decided yet, neither is the starting date. Matching colours of image to a colour plaettr Posted: 06 Sep 2020 11:03 AM PDT Trying to find out if it is possible to convert an existing image to the confinements of a colour plalette and what the best way is to go about this. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Sep 2020 10:03 AM PDT Hey all! I just graduated from a coding bootcamp and have been working on some projects to learn more/sharpen my skills. When I started down this path, I wanted to get into game design. I was eventually deterred from this path due to a variety of reasons, but as of right now I am working Help Desk on and off and I need something to aspire to. What languages should I learn? I see that Unity and Unreal 4 seem pretty popular, but I figured I would ask the experts. Eventually I wanna make a simple sort of JRPG-esque game, but I have no idea where to start. Any help is appreciated! Thanks. [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Sep 2020 08:52 AM PDT Hey guys. I want to start developing with Godot just in my spare time, and I am wondering what are the best sites that developers use for assets? like 2d sprites, 3d models (textures already applied), music, etc? I was looking at Itch.io earlier. Is this the best/most popular site for developers and assets? or is there anything better? also are there any must have plugins I should download? I chose Godot over other engines because it so much smaller, compact and there are a lot of cool tutorials to follow so it makes sense to start here. What do you guys think? [link] [comments]
Survey on: Critical success factors for companies developing E-Sports titles Posted: 06 Sep 2020 11:50 AM PDT Hi guys! I am currently working on my masters` thesis and need some answers for my survey. The thesis subject is on "Critical success factors for companies developing E-Sports titles", so ideally, I need answers from devs/marketing people etc. who are currently working or have worked on e-sports titles. Let me know if you have any questions and thank you to everyone who will take the survey. :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Sep 2020 11:36 AM PDT I've been driving myself insane trying to decide whether I should use a game engine or build my top down 2D game from scratch using a conventional coding language. I'm not a professional, but I have experience with languages like C++ and I'm pretty comfortable with the fundamentals like OOP, data structures and algorithms. I'm going to graduate with a BS in computer science next year. I was originally dead set on using GMS thanks to its intuitive interface and great 2D tools. But I learned that GMS is supposedly tailored to novices who can't write code (?). Also, I thought about the utility of having a game listed under my resume projects, but building an engine + game is probably more impressive. I'm not terribly interested in fuffing around working on an engine for months or years though (although I hear it provides some good extra programming experience). I dont know though, it just seems like an added headache. But I'm wondering if this is the better option since I already possess programming knowledge. I guess what this boils down to is whether I should mess with an existing engine and actually start to work on my game immediately, or take the extra steps to build my own in hopes that I can make the project more useful for finding a job. How difficult is it to switch game engines? Posted: 06 Sep 2020 03:58 AM PDT Beginner here, choosing between Gamemaker Studio 2, Godot, Unity, and Unreal. The thing is, I am interested in trying out and studying more than 1 (definitely Unreal, since the experience would help with job searching in the game industry here in Japan). Not necessarily going all in, just studying the basics of a few engines. So my question is, is it incredibly difficult to learn multiple game engines? Not all at once of course, but perhaps when I'm starting out I practice this engine for 1 month, then that engine for 1 month, then this one... Obviously this is not an ideal thing to do, but does anyone have experience with jumping around? If it is extremely difficult, which engines would be the easiest ones to learn together/in quick succession (so I could pair it down to maybe 2)? [link] [comments]

How to stop a letsplayer from associating themselves with my brand? Posted: 06 Sep 2020 08:25 AM PDT All companies and their products (except in game development, we are abused by everyone) have an option to not let anyone to damage their brand. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Sep 2020 08:13 AM PDT Do I need steam DRM in my game? I already have a privacy policy, etc. And if I do would I add to my game during development in Unity or in game configuration on steam? [link] [comments]

Static vs Dynamic or Semi-dynamic video game worlds. Which one should I implement. Posted: 06 Sep 2020 07:28 AM PDT Can you guys give me some pros and cons of having static or dynamic worlds in video games? Static worlds like a map from csgo and call of duty which has a fixed weather, gameplay condition and objects which are non-destructible. Dynamic game worlds like of Metro Exodus, Battlefield games where weather changes and objects have physics. Which world can generally lead to great gameplay and graphics? Semi-dynamic where weather and map conditions remain almost same except some small objects break or react to physics. [link] [comments] |
