Need help with Steam, we were extorted then review/ false flag bombed and game store deleted

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 11:08 AM PDT

    Hey all,

    • this account is a throw away as we are dealing with a weird situation*

A week ago we were shaken down over an interview, and we were asked to "donate" to an indie journalist as they "like to give favorable reviews. " This was after we gave them media preview keys.

When we declined they released a negative article about us, and again asked us to interview, for a second article and possibly a revist of the first article. They elluded to something bad would happen if we didnt go along. They also reminded us about the Patreon again. We told them to go away and revoked thier keys

With in hours our social media posts emails and store pages were getting bombed/ false flagged. We reported to Steam and they did nothing.

WE did a background check on the company and they dont exist, thier phone number leads ro 30 other websites. We brought his to Steams attention. They did nothing

A few days later they posted a negative review on our page and flamed us for revoking the keys, told were we were based out of and started calling us liars ( we reported this to Steam and to Steam moderators, Steam did notihting. They went so far as to advertise on every one of thier reviews about thier magzine/ online review in not only our review but every review they did. This is clearly a violation of Steam Rules

After 1 week there was still no action except now Steam has deleted our store page as there were too many user "flag" of review rigging.

WE didnt rig any reviews at all. we only really had 13 most of the reviews we from indie journalist/ streamers. 1 negative review from this extortionist.

We asked for any reference and Steam wont reply. WE asked what accounts are in question, and we cant get any input.

This is crazy as we are a start up with 25 employees working remote. No one did a false review, and if there was an issue we cant even do an internal investigation as Steam wont give us feed back

WE go zero warning, zero feedback, and zero response on teh report of us being extorted and bombed/ false flagged.

I am sort of beside my self trying to figure out what to do as we are trying to do a second raise from investors and this could put us out of business.

If we had an employee break the rules we would act on it right away, but we cant get any information.

I'd love if anyone had any insite!

I have just released my Steam game, Jung's Labyrinth. Incredible feeling! It's a psychological exploration game that uses Jungian psychology, mythology, alchemical and dream symbolism in a series of active imaginations to map the process of individuation

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 09:26 AM PDT

Today I have released the final version of the game on Steam, so I am using my 1 free chance to post self-promotion on release day here.

The game is available for Windows and Mac and most PCs will run it without any problems. The Linux build is being worked on, there are some issues that need to be solved. Hopefully next week.

    And here are the links!

After switching from UE4 to Unity, I was able to finish developement and release my first 2D game on Google Play!

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 12:13 PM PDT

I struggled so much trying to define layers for a 2D game on UnrealEngine4, and I wasn't successful. So finally I decided to start learning Unity and it worked out so well!

Defining the foreground and background layers was so crucial in my game, and Unity handled it perfectly without any bug or glitch, while UE4 made a total mess out of my level design!

My first game is called HOO. It's a 2D puzzle game about a little boy stuck in a train, trying to escape the train and find out what happened.

Here's a link in case you'd like to try it, and see the screenshots of the game to get a better idea of my "layers" problem: HOO on Google Play

Getting work in gamedev when there's no opportunities in your country?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 07:01 AM PDT

    Hey there,

So, i recently graduated from University, actually only a week or so before COVID was declared a pandemic. I studied Animation, got good marks, have a strong portfolio, my issue is just a lack of connections, and a lack of abundance with Junior positions.

I live in Australia at the moment, and my initial plan was to spend the entire year working at my portfolio, try and get some work at general animation/CG places and then after a while grab a working holiday Visa to Canada or the UK and try and get work at studios over there.

I know, this plan is pretty presumptuous of me. But, regardless, seeing as we're still in a recession, and international flights aren't likely to resume for a while, I'm kind of stuck on what to do at this point aside from just.. Continuing to make stuff. Few places are hiring at all right now, much less for CG Artist positions.

There's a strong independent dev scene here, but most studios are not hiring, or, if they are, they aren't hiring for junior positions, and most of them are out-of-state anyway. There's programs for financial support for independent devs, but I have no programming knowledge, nor do i feel like I have the production experience to be able to manage scope properly and actually produce a finished product by myself in any reasonable amount of time.

(As enticing as the prospect of making my dream indie game is.)

So, i'd appreciate if somebody older and/or wiser than me could give their two cents on this. Thanks.

Which game development software has the most guides/resources?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 11:42 AM PDT

    Questions:

    • Which game development software has the most guides/resources? ie. for which software can I expect to find answers to almost all questions?
    • Which software is better suited for 2D or pixel graphics?
    • I'm an experienced programmer, which software would you say gives the option to code (giving more control to the developer) but without having to reinvent the wheel (ie. writing code for UI elements)

How does Bethesda's inventory system work for their games?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 12:39 PM PDT

In Fallout and Elder Scrolls, there are hundreds of areas with thousands of containers that contain various items. You can use any of these areas for example as your own personal storage for your items if you have too many things to carry and not have to worry about the items despawning.

How do they achieve these and have the size of the game relatively small? How does the game remember what's in every single container in every single area?

Just applied for Game Design courses at SNHU. What am I in for?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 08:48 AM PDT

I've seen some post about SNHU on here and decided to pursue game development seriously. I've dipped my feet into Unreal 4 a bit and grew up around a cousin who was great at coding (got a military job in it). However I'm still pretty new to C++ and am wondering what I should start learning BEFORE I actually start classes.

I really want to create games and help other people create too so I don't want to half ass this. Any advice/resources are appreciated. My current rig is loaded with Adobe Master Collection and Unreal4, but I have no 3d modeling programs.

    Learning game art

    Posted: 05 Sep 2020 12:31 PM PDT

Hi all, I want to learn game art properly but i don't know where to start, I went on Udemy and found a lot of options. Does anyone know one course that's enough to make me good enough with game art for 2D games? One that maybe includes backgrounds, and characters most importantly.

    Thank you!
