We built an open source Bootstrap 5 Admin Dashboard using vanilla Javascript [MIT License] Posted: 28 Aug 2020 02:07 PM PDT Hey guys, I hope this showoff Saturday post finds you in good health. Together with my friend (who was the designer), we built an admin dashboard template using the latest version of Bootstrap 5 and we decided to go full vanilla JS with it. We tried to keep things simple in terms of design and libraries. It is highly customizable because we used the Bootstrap 5 Sass variables + our custom variables when needed to style the project. By default, we included a Gulp file to compile the Sass files and serve the project using BrowserSync. Useful links:
The project has actually been trending for about 3 days on Github. It is also open source under the MIT License. Projected updates for version 1.1:
Let us know your thoughts about the project and what features would you like to see in the next release. Cheers. [link] [comments]

Is Selling Web Apps on Code Canyon Worth it ? Posted: 28 Aug 2020 03:16 PM PDT I'm a web developer with few years of experience in freelance, I'm thinking of building general-use web apps and sell them on code canyon (or other platforms) to make some side income, have you ever tried this ? and did you make any profits ? I tried to find some reviews or articles online but couldn't find any, however this seems a quite popular way to go on code canyon. Note: I'm not talking about selling Wordpress or other CMS plugins, but full web applications like directory listing web apps, video streaming web apps...etc. Thank's [link] [comments]
[Portfolio feedback] If you guys have time, can you give a little bit of feedback on my portfolio? Posted: 28 Aug 2020 03:13 PM PDT Hi everyone! Subreddit rules say 'only share showoffs on Saturday but doesn't say which Saturday. It's Saturday where I live so I am sharing this. Hope it doesn't get deleted. The website is in progress. I will add the resumes and projects later. So go easy on me :) I believe feedback makes us better so if you have a little bit of time, please give me some feedback. [link] [comments]

LPT: Write your question on Stack Overflow to better understand your issue Posted: 28 Aug 2020 10:18 AM PDT I found out that when I have an issue and I start typing out my issue on Stack Overflow, the third of the time I end up finding a solution as I am writing my issue. The trick is not that Stack Overflow is a magic entity that answers your questions before you even ask them, it's because when you ask a question on Stack Overflow, you must be precise enough so that everyone understands your issue. By writing down your issue, it lets you see the big picture and may help you find a solution. Obviously, unless you are out of solutions, just write out the question without posting it. The goal is to write, not to send. [link] [comments]

Cordova stuck on "device is ready" Posted: 28 Aug 2020 01:53 PM PDT I changed the www folder with my own files and deleted the previous ones but it still shows device is ready screen. I found this on stack overflow: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/25824884/phonegap-apache-cordova-stuck-on-device-is-ready-screen and the answer says i need to goto Project -> Properties -> Resource -> Resource Filters in Eclipse to make the real www folder visible. But what is Eclipse? And why do i need it to make an existing folder visible? Is tehere a way to make it without Eclipse? [link] [comments]
Please help with connecting to mongoDB using mongoose Posted: 28 Aug 2020 02:38 PM PDT Everything is working fine without autorization. Then I created a user in admin in mongoDB. In mongo shell, I am able to do everything with username and password. But if I try to connect it with mongoose, like: mongoose.connect('mongodb://root:root123@127.0.0.1:27018/goodreads-backend?authSource=admin&w=1') my user: { "_id" : "admin.root", "userId" : UUID("ce553c00-fb12-47bd-bb1c-e59305c9cf12"), "user" : "root", "db" : "admin", "roles" : [ { "role" : "userAdminAnyDatabase", "db" : "admin" }, { "role" : "readWriteAnyDatabase", "db" : "admin" } ], "mechanisms" : [ "SCRAM-SHA-1", "SCRAM-SHA-256" ] } it gives authorization error. I have spent hours on this problem and have not been able to find the solution. [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Aug 2020 05:10 AM PDT so i enjoy programming but i'm not good at being creative so i feel like if i was making apps or websites for a living i would struggle unless the idea was already given to me or i had something to work off. Does anybody else have this issue and if so how do you deal with it? Thanks. [link] [comments]

Best way to go about adding SMIL animation to a SVG with an interactive timeline? Posted: 28 Aug 2020 12:21 PM PDT I have drawn a SVG of a transit diagram in Inkscape and researched the opening and closure dates of various metro, light rail and commuter rail lines and their extensions. Now I would like to add a timeline to this SVG that goes from 1960 to 2020 which then controls the visibility of the individual objects for those 60 individual years. The SVG has about 820 objects or groups, and about two thirds of those would change their state of visibility depending on the year. From visibility="visible" to visibility="hidden". I would like to make the timeline controller interactive, similar to the controllers of this fancy animation by Kenneth Aamås and or Timeliner by Jonathan Herndon and also have play button to press that then cycles through the different years. Ideally the resulting file would be able to keep all it's interactivity and animation when opened in a browser, and then also integrate in a website. I have no prior SMIL / Animation / CSS / JS experience, but plenty of drawing experience in Inkscape, and several architectural CAD programs. How do I best go about doing this? Should I open the SVG in a text editor and manually add tags to individual objects? Is there convenient WYSIWYG software where I can change the visibility settings linked to a timeline controller? Would you advise to keep this all within the SVG? Or is learning to do this in CSS or JS that more efficient? Are there any SVG examples online that you know of which I could look through? --> for examples of a transit diagram see r/TransitDiagram [link] [comments]
How does giving certain users different permissions work on a website? Posted: 28 Aug 2020 09:44 AM PDT Let's say I have a website like Reddit where people can post a picture or block of text. Somebody posts a picture that isn't very nice. I don't like that post and I want to delete it since I'm the owner of the website. What technologies are used to give myself certain permissions to let me delete the post from the website directly, without giving everyone else permissions to do the same? Like a mod on Reddit. What is the design (visual) skill level expected from a frontend/fullstack dev? Posted: 28 Aug 2020 05:47 AM PDT Even though I do well on the "programming" side of web development I really struggle when it comes to designing something (visually speaking). If the job is just implementing an existing design I have no problems, but whenever I have to actually come up with the design from scratch I feel like it's a whole different problem. So I've been thinking lately if I should focus more on this design side or rather just team up with more design oriented people. [link] [comments]

Copying PHP code to React/Shopify App Posted: 28 Aug 2020 07:45 AM PDT I'm primarily WordPress/PHP developer and I have a request to build React app (Shopify app) based on WordPress plugin. I have taken some courses and am bit familiar with React, know JS a bit and do know jQuery well. Plugin is mainly using JS code to work with PHP code so it works under WP, but everything what plugin does is being done with JS, and PHP part is responsible for saving the work, and that stuff. Should I go into that process of building the React/Shopify app given the fact I'm beginner when it comes to React but am good at jQuery and PHP? [link] [comments]
