My game does not exist yet, but it is available for download at wanyx.com

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 07:52 AM PDT

I created a Steam page one month ago. Today I googled game's title and found my own game on a strange Chinese site wanyx.com But my game does not exist yet, it is impossible to pirate it right now. I had tried to download it but got a 404 error. Guess, they had created the page to pirate the game later.

Could someone tell me more about this site? Why are they doing this? Is not it easier to post games that they've already pirated?

Edit: If you want proofs, try googling Ecchi Jack. I've found the link on the third page.

Steam anomalies keep appearing. First I've had a lot of direct (!) visits to my store page (which is weird since no YouTubers or media posts were made at that time and steam sale should not been classified as "direct" visits). And now it shows 0 traffic to the page on June 28, despite sold copies

How to Create Handpainted 3D Environments for Beginners

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 06:47 AM PDT

I've composed over 150 songs and sound effects and released them under the CC BY 4.0 license which you can use in any personal and commercial project and they're all free!

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 03:53 AM PDT

    How to download the songs?

You can download all of them in one RAR file by following this Bandcamp link.

What's the total size of the library and in which format do they come in?

Total file size varies in format. You can download the songs in MP3, FLAC, AAC, OGG, ALAC, WAV and AIFF formats. If you'd like to download the songs in MP3 format, the total file size would be 488MB. If you'd want to go with WAV format, then the total size would be 3.2 GB.

What about the license? (CC BY 4.0)

You can use any song in this library in anyway you want, be it as a sound effect in your game or as a background music in one of your Youtube & Twitch videos, even commercially. If you'd like to find more information about the license, please check this creativecommons.org link. Providing an appropriate credit (Either Composed by onemansymphony.bandcamp.com or patreon.com/onemansymphony) is required.

Can I remix the songs in the library?

As long as you provide an appropriate credit to the original album, you can do whatever you want to do with them.

What is the future of this library? How can I support it?

I'm planning to expand this library's content as much as possible, and doing so takes a great amount of time, and calls for new virtual instruments and tools to create songs in rich and different sound. My current goal is to keep adding more songs in different genres into this library as well as creating environmental sound effects in high quality. Due to this reason, I created a Patreon page if you'd like to support this project. By becoming a Patron, you'll get access to the loop files, bonus and alternative songs and sound effects that are not included in the public library hosted on Bandcamp.

    Are these songs loopable?

Almost every single song in the album (with a few exceptions here and there) is loopable. While producing these songs, I always paid extra attention to make them as loopable as possible since some users would like to break a song into seperate pieces and just want to use that specific section of the song in their projects, and some people might like to extend a specific part of the song for adaptive sound design purposes. I am very well aware of that modern video games call for an application of adaptive sound design. A song which is made of different sections should be easily loopable & cuttable and any section of the song should be easily extandable. And whenever a transition occurs, it should sound as smooth as possible. These were the things that I kept in my mind while composing these pieces. If you'd like to create your own loop files out of these songs, you can use a free software such as Audacity to do so and refer to its manual to learn more about how looping is done. If you don't want to spend your time with the process of looping, you can subscribe to my $1 tier on Patreon where you can get access to the loop files of the songs in the library.

    Is this album updated regularly?

Yes! Whenever I add a new song or sound effect to the library, I announce it on my Twitter. I would suggest checking the tweets or the album page regularly if you're in need of new music frequently.

Feel free to ask if you guys have any questions.

I'm making a minimalist vector-graphics editor. Might be useful to create icons/etc for your game, the prototype is available for free.

Been a hobbyist Game Dev for 3 years, here's what I learned from experience

Received an indie game job as a”paid contractor” to later find out they have no money.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 10:02 AM PDT

Received a indie game concept art job, found out it doesn't have any money.

I recently went job hunting through Indeed. One of the companies I applied too ( a small start up company creating a indie game) got back to me with an interview. However, I was only recently informed that they had no budget and won't be able to pay me even though the job posting stated a $25/hr pay. They explained they had investors but the money was yet in there control, I would be paid once it was. This game has been in the works for 5 years and I'm getting a little worried because of the lack of progress with the budget. I don't know if I should stay with this company or quit as soon as possible. I want the experiences as it's my first concept art job but it feels suspicious. They have hired a lot of really talented artists which also make me question how they got those people on board with their $0 budget. Should I stay and hopefully they'll get the budget?

Tl:dr: got a job offer that said they would pay $25 an hour but turns out they had $0 in budget. I love the job work but I don't know if I should look for somewhere else.

Required: Tips on organising an inexperienced, international and multi-background team.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 09:50 AM PDT

I found myself in a leading position on a multifaceted team with different disciplines and timezones, on a fan project, with most of the participants looking to gain experience on the process (one of the main goals for the project).

And although I am experienced with leadership, I haven't had too much experience with leading from afar, always lead face to face or at least make visits to the subordinates. I'm usually against VC and prefer to have on location meetings or "hey, got a minute to help me with something".

So far on pre-production I focused a lot on standardising the processes and communications between everyone, and I found I had to hold a lot of people from going wild and rush ahead with tasks and their imagination without knowing what other people do.

We're only a week in to this project, had a few broad meetings to settle on general project, as well as art and game design, direction and expectation management.

That's mainly it for backstory, I'd love to know your input on this, tips on how to manage such team (right now it's through Discord, Trello and github), what processes or pitfalls we need to be mindful of etc.

Even though I mentioned the things we've done, assume I'm an amateur that hasn't done anything. Feel free to reiterate on any point and give general opinions or guidelines on stuff said.

The main reason for this post is that I personally don't want this project to fail somewhere down the line due to poor pre-production or planning on leadership part.

    Thanks a lot

Is this a good publishing deal?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 06:21 AM PDT

Our game is pretty much finished and just needs a bit of polish and porting to consoles. A publisher has offered us a 60/40 split, and they will provide marketing, localisation, dev kits etc. The 60% is net profit and would only be given after their expenses are covered. This seems like a lot to give away, is this normal and should I try to negotiate?

Looking for games with a 'Charge Jump'

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 12:16 PM PDT

I'm looking for some reference for games that have a Charge Jump. Like you keep hold of 'A' for example, and when you let go your character performs the jump, the longer you hold the button the higher the jump will be.

Right now I can think 'Superhero' genre games like Spiderman, the old PS2 Hulk game, Crackdown I think, etc. But i'm wondering if there's anything where you control a smaller character and the jump heights are much more realistic. I'm making an ICO inspired slow paced platformer game and am really interested in testing out a charge jump, but am on the lookout for reference.

If anybody has any ideas i'd be mighty grateful!

Blender Eevee Tutorial: Animation and Render

Will polishing stage of production(after all the content is already created) take less 3D/animations/creating assets work, but more programming?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 09:55 AM PDT

I'm currently estimating budget for my 3D naval story-driven action-adventure game. We almost achieved the vertical slice, and after it's achieved I'm planning 15 months of development to create all the content to make game playable from start to finish, then 10 more months for polishing and improving(just like in bigger games where last stages of development are after the game is already playable from start to finish). What I'm trying to figure out, will that last stage of development take less work in terms of art/creating assets, but more QA/programming? If that's the case, can I reduce art/assets budget for these 10 last months? Or should it be the same as previous 15 months and assets/animations/art will take a lot of time polishing it too?

Ask gamedev: What color palettes to use for colorblind gamers

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 12:49 AM PDT

I'm developing a board game simulation and I initially chose token colors as black, red, green and blue. But then I realized that could be a problem for colorblind users. So I did a search on colorblind friendly palettes to try to find my four token colors plus a contrasting background color and... the palettes look really ugly.

I don't want my game to look ugly but I do want it to work for colorblind people. I figured you guys must have come across this problem before. What color palettes do you guys use which look attractive and vibrant in a game but still work ok for colorblind users?

Got a grasp on the basics, what now?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 12:48 PM PDT

This is my first post on this Sub and was wondering how you guys/girls went from getting a grasp on the basics to applying that to create something. I know how loops, variables, function, etc, work, but I just can't seem to understand how to go about applying the syntax to create something or solve a problem. I am learning Lua to create games on the Roblox platform, just so people know what language I am working on.
