How do you upload you're vertical gameplay video on YouTube?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 11:40 AM PDT

I uploaded 1080x1920 px vertical 50fps gameplay video of my hyper casual prototype so that I can start contacting the publishers.

But the issue is that the maximum quality it can be viewed is at 480p60. It's been many hours since I uploaded so I'm pretty sure it's not the case where YouTube finishes processing SD version and then HD version is available. Also in the creator studio I can see both SD & HD mentioned in the video details.

I recently uploaded a 1080p horizontal video as well as the same vertical video after rotating 90° and 1080p is available right away in both of them.

So have you guys ever faced this issue? How do you all upload your gameplay videos?

    Absurdly high click-thru rate?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 08:24 AM PDT

Whilst looking through some marketing figures on steamworks earlier, I noticed for the past 7 days, my impressions were 5976, and my click-thru rate was 55%.
After some googling, I found out that most click-thru rates were around 2-5%.
I then checked my lifetime click-thru rate, and its around 25% (for a few months of impressions)

Am I getting my wires crossed here and these are fairly average numbers?

Selling games on stores as an Iranian

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 07:04 AM PDT

Hello there. I've been developing a game for 2 months now and am thinking about publishing it in two months or three. Firstly, I wanted to publish my game on Steam; Well, it's an American store and you know about the sanctions. Then, I thought about itch.io and similar stores, but they firstly need TAX information and a payout method that still, as an Iranian, I'm not able to get either of those. I can make a Paypal account with fake address and information, but I'm pretty sure that I'll face problems while moving the money out of Paypal. What am I supposed to do? Honestly, none of my relatives that are in other countries are going to help me with anything. Can you guys think of a way that I can do something about this? I know some of these might've been asked in my previous question, but seriously, I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Thanks.

Teaching an AI how to play my game using Neural Networks and a Genetic Algorithm

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 12:19 PM PDT

A small project I worked on these last few days, showing an AI learning how to play a level, and after completing one level, it manages to finish different levels.

    https://youtu.be/GycM61m3Em4

    Developed it using Unity.

If you guys want to see a tutorial, I'll find the time to make one :)

My friend Bill and I released Munchies Lunch in 2012, and recently Bill remastered it for PC and Mac. Here it is for your enjoyment as we wait out COVID-19 together.

My friend Bill and I released Munchies Lunch in 2012, and recently Bill remastered it for PC and Mac. Here it is for your enjoyment as we wait out COVID-19 together.

Simply unzip and run on both Windows and Mac.

Use the arrow keys to move Mrs. Munchie around.

The game is designed to be family friendly so we encourage you to try it with your kids, nephews, nieces, grandkids. My kids have been working through the second of the four zones today. I had to scratch my head on a couple of the levels along the way :D

The characters and journey are inspired by my own family's journey to Canada when I was a kid (I'm the one with glasses in the game :))

There is a Custom folder in the zip file with instructions on how to make your own levels. We hope you guys enjoy :)

    Stay healthy and safe everyone!

Much love from Bill and Vlado

Required Math Knowledge for 3d Game Development ?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 12:13 PM PDT

Hey, I'm planning on refreshening my math skills these upcoming months and I've also been really eager to dip into the game development world, but I won't do that until my math foundation is correct.

Is there a general outline of math subjects you need to know in order to develop 3d games and tools ?

    When is an engine required?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 09:42 AM PDT

So I'm confused on exactly why an engine is required. Because there are 2d games that were made with unity but Minecraft is a 3d game that was hard coded and doesn't need one. Where do you cross the line into definitely needs one? Like could a AAA realistic 3d game not need an engine?

MMORPG's Characters vocations progress system - huge and complex project sketch idea

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 01:39 PM PDT

I uploaded it to the google drive, according to the link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ScSpZBM-YF1lcDmmT_Nm17QuCHGIiphv/view

I have been working since May last year on an extensive and complex project of what would be an ideal MMORPG for me, at least with regard to character progression.

The project is all elaborated using Tibia as a base, but it has viability to be implemented in any MMORPG released or not.

I decided to post it in the current phase that is here for you, I am looking for constructive criticism and even some future support to take it forward, my initial idea is to take it to some big game companies at some point.

    Hello indies!

This is a side project I made with my girlfriend (is her first game!) and we are very pleased with the result. For the moment is a MLP (minimum lovable product) that we made in 3 weeks, so we can really use some feedback specially in the store (to improve the discovery of the app a little bit)

    The name is Detox Maker

How do I import animations into OpenGL project?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 11:11 AM PDT

I know alot about Blender and animating in it, used some FBXs in Unity projects, however, recently I started out OpenGL, I understood the main drawing concept and shaders etc..., I also took a look at importing OBJ files (I know they contain no animating data) , so here we are, what options do I have? Should I write my own animating system , and what format is suggested to work with on the CG side?

How to pursue a career in the video games industry in terms of college degrees?

    Posted: 20 Mar 2020 10:30 AM PDT

    Hello gamedev,

I'm a high school student starting to look at potential colleges. My dream job would be a creative director or a high position in one of the more creative departments of video games. I also want to have a complete skill set and not be locked down to a super specific career, though.

If I major in Computer Science, should that provide a path to game design? If I want to be versatile in the games industry, would double majoring in Computer Science and Game Design be a good idea? I genuinely have no idea how, say, Hugo Martin got to be the creative director behind DOOM, or how a game designer working on Cyberpunk 2077 got to where they are. If I wanted to also do some writing for video games and have abilities in that area, how would I acquire those skills, or is game writing a whole different career/area? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
