I'll chat with you for ~20 minutes and we can talk through whatever the problem is, and maybe identify some potential next steps that you can implement.

Computer science can be extremely isolating, and it benefited me to have a neutral third party that I could talk to about things I was stuck on (even if only once).

Please reach out if you are thinking about it, and to everyone else I wish you a fantastic rest of your day!

Can a Linguistics undergraduate student get into Computational Linguistics?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 02:09 PM PDT

I apologize if this question is common or anything like that, but I was wondering if it is a possible for someone with solely a bachelors in Linguistics to get into a Computational Linguistics program. I read that Linguists, not solely Computer Scientists, make contributions to this field; is their validity to this? Thanks!

Not so fast with your “quantum supremacy” claim, IBM tells Google

    How efficient are compilers nowadays?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 08:57 AM PDT

I was just thinking about using division in code and how it's known to be good practice to avoid them. Is this still true today? If for example I wanted to divide a number by 2, a pretty well known trick is to just binary right shift the value. Same outcome, way less cycles! And I tend to use stuff like that when I can, because it was sold to me as clever. But... it now seems to me, that stuff like that is pretty much what one would build into a good compiler. So.... do you thiunk I should trust / and % and all the other friends to always do their best nowadays?

    Hello everyone,

I see a lot of ad for many VPN providers and I was wondering if I could make my own. Any idea ? Maybe I should rent a server ?

Converting to and from .U3D (Universal 3D) model format.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:42 AM PDT

Does anyone have any experience with this? I've tried pretty much everything until the 11th page of Google. Tested everything relevant on Github, and looked at all questions relating to this on StackOverflow.

MeshLab has been popping up a lot, but it's much too slow for the intended purpose, and all the C++ libraries have been undocumented.

Haven't been able to find anything open source so far.

Low chance, but does anyone know of anything else?

Or if anyone knows how to convert files into the PRC file format instead.
