I lose hope and want to give up everytime i hear someone says " I am programming since I was 13". Posted: 01 Jul 2019 05:56 AM PDT I started web dev in last six months only. And i get this feeling of regret everytime when some one says they knew html, css and js when they were 12. They are doing programming since they were 12. And i always ask myself why i didn't start early. Ps : I am grown up. [link] [comments]

Best place to learn more about SEO? Posted: 01 Jul 2019 01:55 PM PDT Hi all I do freelance web development and a big part of the jobs I get is modern and responsive (typically one-page) presentation sites. That looks sleek and sexy. While I feel pretty confident in coding and making websites etc. I feel like I'm lacking knowledge when it comes to SEO. I see a lot of people in my country making an entire business out of doing only SEO for businesses, and I would like to get more confident in being able to provide that service as well. Can anyone direct me to some nice resources for learning more about SEO? I wanna expand my knowledge on the subject so I feel completely comfortable offering advice and solutions within this area. I would appreciate any suggestions. [link] [comments]

Configuring MongoDB to AMPPS for Windows? Posted: 01 Jul 2019 04:23 PM PDT I am running the latest version of AMPPS for Windows. I've downloaded MongoDB in the apps section, but I am unsure how to configure it (it is currently 'stopped' not 'running' and does not respond when clicking to turn it on). There is a lot of information on the internet to configure it with XAMPPS, but not AMPPS, I've found. Does anyone know how/have a link to a good tutorial on how to configure MongoDB to AMPPS? Thank you!! [link] [comments]
Most efficient way to create a looping animation for a website Posted: 01 Jul 2019 04:16 PM PDT I'm looking for the most efficient way (fastest in loading time) to create and render animations on a website. I'm currently using React and would like to have some animations of shapes moving around in some space. I don't want the animation to take up a lot of speed from other elements on the website. All that I can think of right now that could do this is CSS, Canvas, JQuery, Velocity.js, SVG, GIF, even a video. I feel like there's a better way. How should I go about creating little animations like this? [link] [comments]

Any tools to help document a UI? Posted: 01 Jul 2019 12:13 PM PDT Hey Reddit, It would seem a shame to me to do all this (the app is already pretty large) and not document it somewhere. My first thought was Excel but wanted to check here to see if there were better tools for the job. I work at a pretty fast and loose startup so Thanks! [link] [comments]
Bootcamp graduated, how long after the bootcamp did you land a job? Posted: 01 Jul 2019 03:55 PM PDT Did you have one by the time you finish the bootcamp? Was it one of the employers who visited at demo day? Or was it weeks or months after the end of the bootcamp? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jul 2019 03:54 PM PDT Can anyone recommend any good JavaScript books for a beginner to the language, that ideally would cover modern JS? I do know the fundamentals in programming from my CS degree but with the unfortunate route I took through university I haven't taken a single class on JS. Hence why I am looking to polish my skills before I start applying for jobs. I also intend to do Wes Bos' 30 days of JS but I would like to supplement this with a good book. I am currently leaning towards javascript for impatient programmers by Dr. Axel Rauschmayer however the fact that paperback isn't available until this fall is slightly discouraging me as I would much rather a hard copy. Posted: 01 Jul 2019 03:44 PM PDT I have scoured the internet looking for resources on Rich Text e-mails and in particular its integration in NodeJS. I'm using SES HTML and Plain Text features but can't find any information on SES and rich text e-mails. Does anyone have any experience with sending rich text (or similar) e-mails in Node and can point me in the right direction? [link] [comments]
How do you feel about videos on landing pages? Posted: 01 Jul 2019 03:41 PM PDT I see these a lot put at the very top of the page, like how a hero image would be used. For myself I feel like this is a bit overkill. Also a landing page is supposed to be the first thing people that are interested in your product will see. Not a good look to have them staring at a loading icon immediately. I feel videos have their place but should be a few clicks into the user's navigation of the site. A simple "watch this video to learn more" link towards the bottom would work better. I have a theory that videos get used a lot because the company already has them, and simply want to get more value for their money, and that's probably the end of the conversation with the dev. Planning on learning webdev? (Most popular back end stack) Posted: 01 Jul 2019 12:51 AM PDT The Odin project just added Full-stack JavaScript to its curriculum. It includes NodeJs, Express Framework, Authentication, API's. I think it's a great resource for getting started in web dev. Though some of you might be interested. [link] [comments]
How should I label my web dev tools? Posted: 01 Jul 2019 03:27 PM PDT I am creating my portfolio website right now and want to create a section where I list what tools I used. I would like to categorize them instead of just writing down a list. So far I know html, css, javascript, node.js, c++. npm: p2p, discord.js, ejs. I dont know how to label aws(amazon web service), ec2. It would be nice to categorize it in 3 categories for styling purposes. [link] [comments]
[HTML/CSS/JS] How to handle feedback after pre-interview code test Posted: 01 Jul 2019 03:16 PM PDT So I got some feedback (obviously didn't get the in person interview) and I was wondering how to improve my project/skills based off this feedback. Web Development vs. Design Question.. Posted: 01 Jul 2019 03:01 PM PDT I took a break for a bit but now ready to go. One question I always ponder that comes up is with regards platform choice for Dev vs. Design. Development seems to lean Linux and Design Mac due to much better tool choices. So do that's mean I should abandon Linux in favor of Mac for a more complete package if I want to do both? Say mac native and run linux in a vm etc? Regards.... [link] [comments]

Cost & technology for creating the cheapest domain registry. Posted: 01 Jul 2019 07:29 AM PDT As you are aware of ICANN fees are low for domain registering a domain and domain registrar takes much more than that. I was thinking how much could it cost to build our own infrastructure. As per I calculated it could cost around Do you guys have any idea how much could it cost and what technology is required. Is there an easy DNS setting to show all of a website's content/urls on another of my websites? Posted: 01 Jul 2019 02:29 PM PDT If I have a lot of content on example1.com where example1.com/about-us is a page, and I want to show all of these same things on example2.com so that if I go to example2.com/about-us it will show the same page as seen on example1.com/about-us. Is this possible to do with some DNS setting (alias) rather than having to copy everything over to another server or folder? [link] [comments]

Trying to land a freelance position - What should I deliver for a proposal? Posted: 01 Jul 2019 01:36 PM PDT So I'm in contact with someone who's looking for a freelance web designer to develop a static site over the course of a month or so. I just graduated (masters in information, bachelors in CS) and want to get into web dev, so I think this is a great opportunity to help me make that transition, but I'm not sure how to lock it down. I've taken a few dev courses and am pretty comfortable with languages (Python, JS, HTML, CSS, etc.) and I've learned the basics for a couple frameworks and other tools (mostly React) and am comfortable reading documentation, but the only full site I've made before is my personal one which I made mostly from scratch, except for using Bootstrap for the styling. The person I'm talking to is fine with at least starting with templates and mostly just wants to get something up and running that looks professional, so I told him I'd come up with some concepts to show him by the end of the week. I'm assuming I'm going to be handing everything over when this is done though, and I doubt that making everything from scratch is worth it so I need a different avenue. I have a few questions that I think cover most of what I'm missing right now: What tools/services should I be looking into (I'm thinking something like a Wordpress site would be appropriate)? How do I hand a website over to someone else when I'm done? Are there any resources that might be able to help me learn more about doing freelance development/design? [link] [comments] |
