Never finishing projects and constantly switching technologies. Posted: 15 Jul 2019 05:03 AM PDT Anyone else is stuck in this horrible loop? It has been like this for years. Sure I learn more and more every time, but I just want to finish something. It goes something like that: - pick language and library - make some stuff - realise you have to do some stuff in a specific way or there is library problem with something - switch library - do some stuff - think that the language is limiting you - switch library and language - do some stuff - think that you can do all the core better and exactly how you want to - switch language and discard libraries - start writing own libraries - realise that you are not as good as you thought and it will take ages - pick other language and find another library https://i.redd.it/58ggv2ngjga31.jpg [link] [comments]

Why create low poly assets from high and don't let the engine manage the level of detail Posted: 15 Jul 2019 06:03 AM PDT why do you make different models of an object (high, medium, low) with relative maps when the level of detail can scale automatically? Is it to optimize the video game and make it run better? for which objects do you make models with a low number of polygons and which ones do you let the motor scale automatically? 3D rendering engines which does only the rendering Posted: 15 Jul 2019 10:13 AM PDT Hello, I am looking for a high level rendering engine which does only that. I create a window and manage inputs with SDL, and I want something that can render into the window I created with SDL. Having to initialize OpenGL first is OK. It looks like Ogre does what I want expect it creates it's own window, and there is a hacky way to make it render into a SDL window. Diligent Engine does only the rendering but may be too low level. Are there any 3D renderer usable with a SDL window? [link] [comments]

Are you a disabled games developer, indie developer or otherwise please reach out to me! Posted: 15 Jul 2019 11:09 AM PDT I posted a tweet recently trying to reachout through game deb hash tags, I don't have enough followers/the right followers though so thought I'd also try here. Basically, I am a disabled games developer. Currently I work in the games industry working at a studio that develops AAA video games as-well as spending a lot of my free time on my own projects. I'm looking for other developers with these kind of health concerns issues to learn from, hear and share experiences related to working on games and managing work/life/health. If you are happy to share some of your experiences please reach out me! [link] [comments]

how to make games look like GARBAGE? Posted: 14 Jul 2019 09:34 PM PDT with all this modern technology, it's very rare to come across games that look like these: i was playing DUSK and noticed the developer mentioned it being hard to make games look terrible, like that post-DOOM pre-ps2 graphics era, and it took me on a nostalgic trip of all those games i played back in the day that just looked godawful but were so cool. i'm wanting to make a simple 3d interactive world that my friends and i can showcase their things in, but i want it to look like the images above. what can i do to get the least graphical quality possible without looking like DOOM? Posted: 15 Jul 2019 11:27 AM PDT We are currently working on adding in-game subtitles to our free demo (currently on pc and mobile) to see if anyone is interested in this kind of game outside of Israel. It's a wacky comedy point and click game about a megalomanic actor who always finds himself in the middle of a wackier situation, usually involving a crime scene. It is also a sequel to a cult games series from the late 90's. https://reddit.com/link/cdlaz0/video/gk40cgx6fia31/player P.S this is our crowdfunding campaign. Completely in hebrew, but you might still enjoy it :) [link] [comments]
