For examples, databases used to optimize disk space by writing to same locations, since HDD's were expensive back then.

    Linux vs. Dual boot PC

    Posted: 10 May 2019 06:30 PM PDT

I am looking to buy a new computer, but I don't know which operative system fits my needs. I mainly develop with Python, Java and C++. Specifically, I use Python for data science, machine learning, deep learning and computer vision, Java for general projects that involve distributed systems and C++ for general learning and ROS (basic knowledge). Windows has worked pretty well with Java, I haven't had any problem with it; Python gave me some problems when I started learning those topics I said before, the installation of tensor flow and python 3.x was a messed up, but those errors were fixed easily with some hours of searching in Stack overflow(most probably there are still problems that I'm not aware); for ROS, the only way to go is Linux.

The thing I'm looking is an operative system that doesn't make me struggle with how the dependencies were installed (Python, Pytorch, Keras, Open CV, etc.) and keeps the capabilities of Java (process communication, SOAP and RESTful services, etc.)

Does Linux support those needs? Is it better to have a PC with dual boot? Is there any downside with dual boot?

    Thanks!

    Ideas Final year project?

    Posted: 10 May 2019 02:03 PM PDT

I'm trying to decide on a 3rd year project, one option is making a procedural generated game in which the marking would focus more on the algorithm generating levels of increasing difficulty.

I love the idea of making a game like Binding of Issac of course not to that level of complexity how hard would making a game like this be, I have around 40 weeks to make this project and I'd prefer to use java I think

Is this achievable or any ideas like this one I could do?
