Hi, guys! Please be honest with me. Will anyone hire me with this portfolio? Posted: 10 May 2019 09:38 PM PDT https://kimnejudne.netlify.com/ I taught myself web dev over the past 2 years. I've learned a lot but I'm still not sure if I'm ready to go out and start looking for jobs. Please be honest with me, guys. What do you think of my portfolio? I'd really appreciate feedback. Thanks. EDIT: I know I've been whining about my depression and anxiety but it really is a big problem for me. From your feedback, it looks like my skills are ready, I'm just lacking in the confidence department. I really appreciate all your feedback, especially those who pointed out bugs and corrections. EDIT2: Thanks for the all the positive feedback. I'm gonna rest now since it's getting late here in the Philippines. Also, I received an email telling me that my "Recipe Finder app is above 80% limit utilization of Hits per minute." That means people are actually checking out my portfolio! This has been a great experience and a confidence booster for me. Thank you /r/webdev [link] [comments]

How to use JWTs with Cookies (instead of Local Storage) Lesson (Node/React) Posted: 11 May 2019 11:52 AM PDT Hey all, just wanted to mention that I've recently worked on a video that shows how to use JSON Web Tokens (JWTs) with cookies instead of local storage. We're using Node.js for the backend and React.js for the frontend to showcase the entire flow (both directions). As it turns out - majority of the tutorials online teach you how to use JWT with local storage and in fact I did the same with earlier videos/tutorials, however due to XSS vulnerability I started using JWT with cookies ('httpOnly' flag - so JavaScript cannot interact with it and you can also add 'secure' flag to only send it over HTTPS which is highly recommended). Hopefully this will be useful to some! Any feedback is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 May 2019 10:38 AM PDT Hi there! So, this is my first "launched" React app! I just got into React a few months ago and I'm not great at programming but I slapped this together with my nerdy aspirations and some help. I wanted to design a cool interface where people could go to browse cool car sounds because there actually isn't a place on the internet to do that. I'm actually a graphic/web designer by trade. So yeah, I just launched this too; haven't shown too many people. I've only added about 18 cars, this is just MVP. Would love to hear if the code is up to snuff, or if I could improve the page performance, if you like the design and usability or if I'm missing anything you'd like to see. ExhaustNotes, a Car Engine Sound Library: Thanks for checking it out :) [link] [comments]

Is there any self made web dev who doesn't have a cs degree ? Posted: 10 May 2019 08:32 PM PDT What's your story ? How do you get a job without any degree in the related field ? Asking just for motivation. Thanks. [link] [comments]

Is there a free repo with a plain Wordpress, bootstrap, underscore, gulp setup? Posted: 11 May 2019 04:03 PM PDT Maybe this seems oddly specific, but I would find it useful to see an example of a Wordpress setup like this. From the research I've done, this would be the most basic boilerplate that also includes automation, which seems mandatory at this point. I'm basically looking for a modern, plain theme folder to dig around in so I can further understand a standard setup before any additional code is added. [link] [comments]

Thinking about going to school for web development, is it worth it? Posted: 11 May 2019 03:51 PM PDT Hello, I am looking into going (back) to college for web development. I don't have any coding experience or anything like that though. So I just have a couple questions. Is learning to to be a web dev extremely difficult? I'm honestly worried I am not smart enough to go into the field. Is it better to go to school for it or just teach yourself? Do you love being a web developer? [link] [comments]
Applying Frontend frameworks to Mobile Applications Posted: 11 May 2019 03:24 PM PDT Hi everybody, I'm mostly a backend guy.. (And somehow full-stack with good ol' jQuery..) I made some projects (I mean tutorial based project) with Angular, React and starting with Vue.. However, before completely diving into frontend frameworks (and before choosing one in particular and sticking with it) I want to be sure to make the good choice regarding Mobile Applications integration. I want to maximize the usability of my frontend knowledge to go with mobile applications. I know that React has its ReactNative part that allow with minimal effort to translate an existing app into a mobile app. Does Angular or Vue have similar parts? I also know that there are cross platform libraries like NativeScript, is this one that applies to Angular and Vue? Does Reat developers use this or prefer ReactNative? Is it reasonable to expect almost the same codebase for the desktop and the mobile application when using such a framework (or with ReactNative)? I also heard about Flutter... If this is (or will become) something important that will worth it to learn regarding mobile applications, then I will manage to learn this as an extra and dedicated to mobile platforms. In this case the choice regarding the "desktop" frontend framework will matter less. But I'm not sure. One constraint I have is to choose a framework that give me access to the camera and the location (but I know that even regular website can have access to the camera and the location, so I assume that this is not really a concern). Thank you very much for any advice regarding how I can learn how to apply front end knowledge to Mobile Applications. [link] [comments]
Is Webflow good enough that I could offer it to local businesses instead of Wordpress? Posted: 11 May 2019 07:46 AM PDT I know Webflow really well as I'm great w/ HTML & CSS. WordPress is a fucking nightmare to use. Considering the ease of client use with Webflow's CMS, SEO, is Webflow equal to or better than WordPress for creating sites for local business? Or, is still lacking somewhere? I could hammer out these sites really fast, but every other local design/marketing agency uses Wordpress, which I absolutely loathe. My only worry is switching to Webflow and losing SEO rankings. [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 May 2019 03:11 PM PDT I've been looking on the web but haven't found quite what I'm looking for. I want to make a site with a question. the answer is hidden but when a button is pressed, it is shown. When the button is pressed again, the answer hides. I'm not finding what I'm looking for on the web and was hoping I could get some help here [link] [comments]

Intermediate programming skills, but new to web development. How do I spend my summer learning? Posted: 11 May 2019 08:14 AM PDT I am a CS student (first year) and have been programming for about as long. Not a prog wiz by any means, but I know my way around. However, we have yet to have any web-related courses, and I've decided to learn as much on the subject as I can during the summer, as I have a lot of time available. I've looked a bit around, and this seems to be a decent roadmap (but please correct me if you disagree!): HTML & CSS --> JS (vanilla) --> Git & CL --> React (and TS?), Node & MongoDB (maybe Redux as well). Am I missing something? I'm essentially looking for course(s)/bootcamp(s)/tutorials which teach you this. I'm open to paying as long as it's affordable. I prefer courses with relevant and somewhat challenging projects as part of the learning process! Got any recommendations? Thanks in advance :D P.S. Yes, I just saw a similar post posted not too long ago, but the response on that one didn't give me what I was looking for, so I'm trying for myself. Maybe I can also help the OP of the other post while I'm at it. [link] [comments]

Posted: 11 May 2019 06:31 AM PDT I am a CS undergrad and have been actively participating in competitive coding but I have zero exposure towards Web Development. I have few ideas which I wish to implement so I am looking for a decent source/book to learn web development. I have tried out codeacademy but I feel it is painfully slow for me. I am looking for something little faster and concise because some of these are targeted towards total beginners. [link] [comments]
Best way to deep copy a DOM element (and keep its event listeners)? Posted: 11 May 2019 01:44 PM PDT I am looking for a way to copy all the elements inside a div, and keep their event listeners (not inline listeners like Looking at MDN there is Node.cloneNode() but this states that non-inline event listeners are not copied. I was wondering if deep copying the entire DOM object would keep the event listeners, e.g. with [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 May 2019 09:38 AM PDT Hello fellow developers! I've been programming as a hobby so far, and now here I am learning web development for a career! I've been learning web development since last year when I was doing my military service. I'll start applying junior position soon, but little concerned about my skills and such. Built my first portfolio from scratch, I would very much appreciate any feedback. Thanks *favicon is under its way [link] [comments]
Just finished first year in CS program, got few questions about how I can improve as web developer. Posted: 10 May 2019 06:56 PM PDT Hi! I've just finished my first year and have been exposed to many languages, fundamentals of cs. However, I feel that I lack in experience as I have not "built" anything concrete aside from lab or assignment tasks that were short. To compensate for this void, I'm looking to work on projects, mainly involving html/css/javascript to try web development. Many times I tried to start on a project, I got stuck, googled , saw answers of "make something that you would like to have built", thought about ideas, got stuck again and I feel that I'm stuck in an endless loop of not getting started. So, I tried just building something random out of the blue, fiddled with bootstrap (after learning html/css , bootstrap was a god send) and just fiddled with building local webpage using bootstrap. At this point, I wasn't sure how to go further with what I'm doing, some of things that I thought of were
All in all, I wanted to spend everyday engaged in development side of projects to be ready for employment and at real work place, but I often get stuck in doing so. So, if I could get some suggestion as to how I can build a proper roadmap, that would be great. In addition, I've looked at online courses such as "traversy media for Javascript", https://www.udemy.com/course/modern-javascript/, and https://www.udemy.com/the-complete-javascript-course/ would going through these course be a good stepping stone to learn Javascript? What to put on GitHub profile for a junior web developer job? Posted: 11 May 2019 01:08 PM PDT I have been learning web development for the past few months. I have done more than 20 projects (big and small) and am currently planning on doing a few big projects with API and stuff. Before starting my learning path, I did not even know what is GitHub. Now that I have heard this name a lot, I did some research and came to a conclusion that I DO need a GitHub profile to land my first junior web developer job. I created a profile there but what do I put there? I learned some of the git command lines but I really do not know what would the employers be looking for in my profile? [link] [comments] |
